Because the Lakers are an LA institution, followed by the Dodgers....Make no mistake, LA stations will always talk Lakers when they have nothing else to talk about.
I disagree about the Philly stations (especially The Fanatic). They are homerific, but they are first and foremost an Iggle town. They talk Eagles when there is little else to talk about, like LA does with the Lakers.
Unless the Lakers are in the post-season, LA is totally and completely a DODGER town. It's not really close.
It took multiple championships and someone with Magic Johnson's star power to also be seriously included in the conversation.
The LA Kings won the Stanley Cup and they still aren't part of the conversation. Not really. LA will talk about a 60-102 Dodger team over a championship Kings team.
And that's why even with the Rams return, if you KNOW Los Angeles at all, you'd know how amazing it is for the Rams to be in the conversation AT ALL.
If Fisher were still the coach, we STILL wouldn't be in the conversation not only because we wouldn't be in the playoffs, but because it was just not a good match.
It also illustrates what an amazing job Sean McVay and the FO have done because many of the old LA Rams fans came back which many vowed to never do. That culture change has even warmed the often apathetic hearts of my fellow Angelenos (I may live in FL, but I'll always be an Angeleno at heart).
