Wait, he lost his spot to Illinois Mike??
Didn’t know he was even in the league

We couldn’t afford him so no point talking about adding him plus we need to finish developing our young TE’s. Have a feeling they come out of their shells this year.

Can't afford him. Plus team needs to develop the youngsters to save cap space for the stars.

Some of this boards confidence in the TE position is not reflected by the coaching staff...

D'Marco Farr, when asked what part of the team needed to show the greatest improvement this season, said the TE position. Can't imagine we have enough cap room though to sign Fleener or any other free agent.

Fleener turns 30 in September. At 6' 6" and 250 lbs he'd be a good target in the red zone.

53 games started, 233 receptions for 2,785 yds, a 12.0 avg. with 20 td's.
He sounds like a good " One-Year-Prove-It" deal type Player to me!

Countess did it again in the season finale.

One of the reasons I love Countess. Love me some DBs that bring the wood man.

Back to Fleener, F the Saints and glad it didn't work out. I actually had hope that offseason that the Rams could add Fleener on an affordable deal until the Aints swooped in.

Still like Fleener on what he should be on: a cheap, prove-it contract. Bring him in, let him compete, if he doesn't show well cut him.

Just no, this guy had Brees throwing to him for two years and averaged less than 2.5 receptions a game. He couldn’t produce there and had injuries last year. I get Rams fans want to sign any player that’s been cut but this guys lost it.
No doubt....plus, did you see that 40 time he ran at he 2012 Combine?...HARD pass ~LACHAMP46

Trying to figure out what the Saints have to pay him this year for 18 Million guaranteed money when he signed his 5 year deal.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/coby-fleener-9844/
Coby Fleener signed a 5 year, $36,000,000 contract with the New Orleans Saints, including a $8,000,000 signing bonus, $18,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $7,200,000. In 2018, Fleener will earn a base salary of $6,300,000 and a workout bonus of $100,000, while carrying a cap hit of $8,000,000 and a dead cap value of $8,200,000.

YEARLY CASH
2016 $8,841,169

2017 $5,900,000
($14,741,169) Total cash

Looks like about 3.248 Million remaining on the guaranteed money that the Saints should have to pay.

IIRC that means anyone that signs him only pays over that amount. Depending on his health of course he might want to resign with a contender for one year for 1-2 Million or maybe less. You never know until you ask. Rams could find that money. I might rather have a LBer/Edge Rusher.

I feel Everett has more potential.
fleener is just a big reciever , he doesn't block or run that well after the catch .

I think higbee and Everett both step up this year and make this offense even better.

Seriously not a fan of Countess. I hope our depth is good enough that he doesnt have to play a down as a db. He’s a special teamer. But even then, I recall him getting an off-sides penalty on a punt that gave the opposing team a 1st down. That pissed me off so much.

Hard pass on a guy with major concussion issues that can't cut it with Brees slinging it 40 times a game.

A. Not the kind of tight end we need. We need an in line - move the guy in front of you type, if anything.

B. They released him w a failed physical designation. Concussion symptoms still linger?

Saints Coach Asshole Face on Tuesday spoke about the decision during his appearance on ProFootballTalk's PM Podcast hosted by Mike Florio. Payton said the move was largely based on Fleener's health and that the concussion he suffered last season was "significant."

"Coby's a guy that came in and worked extremely hard for us and came up big in some games but obviously not enough," Payton told Florio. "And yet (Coby) was someone I know his teammates had a ton of respect for."

I'm okay with Countess...but both of those hits were egregious and were flagged. Could have cost us in the Saints game. Stupid Jeff Fisher type of play.
