Some of this boards confidence in the TE position is not reflected by the coaching staff...
He sounds like a good " One-Year-Prove-It" deal type Player to me!Fleener turns 30 in September. At 6' 6" and 250 lbs he'd be a good target in the red zone.
53 games started, 233 receptions for 2,785 yds, a 12.0 avg. with 20 td's.
No doubt....plus, did you see that 40 time he ran at he 2012 Combine?...HARD pass ~LACHAMP46Just no, this guy had Brees throwing to him for two years and averaged less than 2.5 receptions a game. He couldn’t produce there and had injuries last year. I get Rams fans want to sign any player that’s been cut but this guys lost it.
D'Marco Farr, when asked what part of the team needed to show the greatest improvement this season, said the TE position. Can't imagine we have enough cap room though to sign Fleener or any other free agent.
Seriously not a fan of Countess. I hope our depth is good enough that he doesnt have to play a down as a db. He’s a special teamer. But even then, I recall him getting an off-sides penalty on a punt that gave the opposing team a 1st down. That pissed me off so much. One of the reasons I love Countess. Love me some DBs that bring the wood man.
Back to Fleener, F the Saints and glad it didn't work out. I actually had hope that offseason that the Rams could add Fleener on an affordable deal until the Aints swooped in.
Still like Fleener on what he should be on: a cheap, prove-it contract. Bring him in, let him compete, if he doesn't show well cut him.
