I like our crop of
safeties... as much as I'd be down with bringing JJ back.. I don't think that's happening.

As a Bruin fan I'm biased but I still think Lake has the most upside... but Fuller has experience so he's likely got a spot locked... and honest even though Yeast is smaller... he's a physical player and may initially get the starting nod because of that.

We can afford to take our time with Taylor but he could just as well jump over Lake and Yeast.

and really I could see Ingle, Johnson and Torrance all at least sticking on the practice squad with one making the roster as out 5th safety...

In the long run I think the odd man out could end up being Fuller as Yeast, Lake and Taylor could hold down our 3 safety spots after this coming season...

Young group
.but lots of talent and with Aubrey Pleasant back I wouldn't be surprised if we see some changes early...

Taylor has the most versatility of all of the safeties. He can play in the box, the middle zone and has the speed to play deep. I think they drafted him to replace Fuller. But with Fuller they are 4 deep at safety which is what you want. I believe it's why they aren't worried about CB because I can see them playing a lot of 3 safeties. Of all the positions on defense I think safety is a strength.

Edge is another position where they are deep. Turner looked good in OTAs. This defense could be a strength if this talent is used properly.

I think Fuller stays on the roster, despite my opinion that he's overrated. They will want the veteran presence. Plus if he plays well he could get them a comp pick if he signs elsewhere. Les loves those sixth round picks.

I would still like to bring back John Johnson II, but they have plenty on the roster that is for sure. I concur with @LA_Rams_#29 about Quentin Lake and although I like Fuller I would not be shocked to see Lake taking over especially with the durability factor with Fuller.

Agreed. Johnson would be an asset for the next 3 years at the right price. IMO the Rams are not signing anyone to the roster just to help in 2023. Players are either already in the plans for 2024+ or they are being assessed for a roster spot 2024+. No 2023 stop tap players IMO.

I think that they have enough on the roster to move forward. If they were going to sign a vet, I would want it to be on the edge.
Fuller is a solid player and Yeast and Lake have some excellent traits... Taylor looks interesting and there are some other guys in camp who could break through. One of the positions I'm not overly stressed about.

It’s not about stress. JJ was a leader on the Rams defense. He was a good player too. Plus he is familiar with the system and coaces.

This is a different defense than JJ played in. Johnson played under Wade Phillips who plays a completely different system. Phillips played an aggressive one gap attacking scheme up front, with a mix of zone and man coverages in the secondary. Phillips played a lot of single high safety looks. This has been a passive zone under Morris who plays a Fangio style scheme up front and a two deep shell (Tampa 2) secondary. Hopefully, that will change with Pleasant and Lake coaching the DBs but that remains to be seen.

IMO it's not the players that suck it's the way Morris plays his passive scheme. Look he had one of the best cover CBs in the NFL and made him play 10 yds off the LOS in a passive zone. Why do you think Ramsey wanted out? If Morris woiuld grow some cajones or if Pleasant and Lake can get the secondary playing aggressively then the D would look a whole lot different. But Morris plays soft until the FG is conceded before he locks the defense down. That makes no fucking sense at all. That's why the defense went from #1 to #19 in the NFL in two years. But Morris and most of all McVay is just fine with that. McVay demands performance from players and coaches with exceptions like Aaron Kromer and Raheem Morris. Both of whom consistently underperform, but everyone else gets fired?

I like JJ, I just don't think he's a difference-maker and would rather see them develop Lake, Yeast and Taylor.

My best guess is Yeast and Fuller will start and make a very good tandem if and its a big if both can stay healthy. Hopefully the coaches can get Lake and Taylor ready because I believe they will be needed when one of our starters gets hurt. With a little luck we can have good safety play because I believe their a talented group.

Let's not forget about the undrafted free agent safeties. Quindell Johnson had the highest signing bonus, Rashad Torrence II was a highly-rated safety at Florida, and Tanner Ingle has been impressing in camp.

His last year here, JJ was our leading tackler, by a lot.
I say both post are missing how good Fuller is & playing right now. Lake is a question mark & there’s a reason JJ43 is no longer working in the NFL.
What do you say The Rams pay JJ to be a Ram?

Honestly its the addition of those 3 UDFAs that had me thinking we weren't going to sign a vet. Whoever stands out the most between Rashad, Quindell and Tanner will make the squad as our 5th safety, and the other 2 should make the practice squad. Overall this is a young group, but they all have upside and we have enough depth at the position where in a couple of years we'll have a solid unit.

I'd agree Fuller stays around this year because he's the "vet". But as much as they try to chalk up his injury as the reason he didn't see the field as much the last 2 years....the reality is that Nick Scott took his job and was the better option for us. That's why I think after this coming season, I could see Fuller moving on assuming our young guys develop.

Nick Scott took Fuller's job. If Nick can do it, it's not out of the question that one of the new young guys could do it as well. Lake began his rookie season with an injury from college, but he was a real baller in college and has a ton of potential.

I'm not being demeaning when I say tackles are an overrated stat.
JJ is a really good player, he's not a difference maker.

Taylor Rapp graded out better than him in PFF and they had similar numbers.

I just think that they'll go with the guys on the roster in hopes of developing them, moving forward.

I love me some Nick Scott.. but he didn't take Fuller's job, injury did.
