I think having Lewis coming back from I.R. will help. I'm not a huge fan of SJD (flashes but very inconsistent), i think Greg Gaines is a better run stuffer (can also push the pocket) and would be better suited for starting NT.

Brockers isn't exactly lighting the world on fire...Hopefully he gets going soon. I'm curious to see what Hollins will brings to the table as well.

In the secondary on passing downs, he can man up outside with Ramsey and Williams, and play zone short to mid-range with Kiser, Fuller, and Rapp. He should replace Johnson who has limited range with Burgess who is much faster to play a single high safety shading to Williams's side.

Your recommendation is to sit John Johnson in passing situations!?!

I think some of you guys are doing too much arm chair QB'ing. Does the defense look soft? At times; sure, I'll give you that. Is it making plays when it really matters? Are we winning games? Has the defense basically shut both teams out in the second half of each game? Yes, yes, and yes; respectively, that is all that matters.

My thoughts: week three will be a tell of what's to be expected from Staley and the "soft" defense in the following weeks.

Yep can't be perfect. Run D is bad bc we have some of the worst ILBs starting. Mean no offense to those guys and hopefully they get better. But it is what it is. Just gotta keep scoring.
I don't agree with that. Kiser is adept enough to fill holes, take on blocks and make and bring down ball carriers in between the tackles. It when he is in space that he does not have the lateral quickness and foot speed to stay with ball carriers. Kenny Young does have better lateral quickness and speed, which is why he works more in coverage. However, against the Eagles, I noticed 3 plays where Young got taken out of the play by either the Center or a Guard ; 1 play went for 8 yards and a first down and another was on their TD. If the Defensive front continues to let the O-line get up field and take out the LB's, then it really doesn't matter who you put out there.

The Rams don't have enough overall talent on defense to be elite. But I think we can be a solid top 10 defense. The run defense so far this season is better then years past. We know the secondary is strong and Donald disrupts up front. If we had better outside pass rush this defense would be really, really good.

I respect your opinion and completely disagree.

A lot of preconceived notions about our roster have carried over from the offseason of negativity... the reality us that we have a very, very, very good secondary, the best DLer in the league, an emerging ILB who in his second start won NFC d player of the week and lots of guys with talent if not established names.

If by Elite, you mean we can't be the best 1 or 2 Ds in the league, maybe.
But if you think our D can't finish the season top 5, because of a lack of talent, I disagree big time.

Good coaching and scheme will make or break our season on D. Injuries could too, but people also said we lacked enough talent to have a productive offensive line, and yet so far they have been fantastic, I see no reason why Donald, Ramsey, JJ3, Brockers, Floyd, an emerging Kiser and Fuller plus plenty of solid rotational guys like Darious Williams, a recovering Taylor Rapp.... why can't that group be good enough to be elite?

By elite that's what I mean, the best or very close to it. Having the 5th best defense does not mean elite for example, in my opinion.

I just don't think we have the pass rush right now to be one of those elite D's. Maybe that changes with Lewis coming back or more development with the younger guys. I agree we can be a really good D. So far we look like a solid top 10 unit. The Bills are a big test. We might learn a lot about how good this defense really is this Sunday.

Lets get the O rolling early and make the opposition one dimensional...that will help the Run D

Agreed..We did exactly that in '18 if memory serves (which it does not far to often as the aging process has begun to put a sleeper hold on me)...Scoring early and often is always a good thing...Quite frankly though, I don't care too much how they do it, only that they do...All the way to the promised land, please...BTW, I can hardly wait to see the house that Stan built full of loud Rams fans...Hope to see it in person, but don't know if that will happen...It's very near the top of my bucket list...One thing at a time though...Start with a total domination of the Bills this Sunday...

Isn't he run defense the knock on the 3-4 defense?

The Rams defense has been defending the run better on the outside. They still get gashed inside but, haven't let up real big runs yet.

I've trying to see what is going on. They seem a little late in reacting and disengaging blocks. That's both the D Line and LBers.
They have faced two good run offenses and running backs. The backups on the D Line didn't fair as well this week. They can use Big A coming back.
