My son caught this beast last night. He didn't have a scale, but it measured 28" long. Spawning season is over here so it's belly wasn't bulging... but this is a very big bass.

I'm back "home" in The 808 with most of my family. A bunch of us went offshore yesterday in 2 separate boats. We're on the North Shore. The seas were fucking huge... 8' - 10' with bigger monsters slipping in too.

We didn't catch the big yellowfin tunas we were hoping for... but my oldest nephew caught this nice Ono (wahoo). I'll be making this tonight for our dinner so check into the Food Porn thread later to see how I prepare it Hawaiian Style.

Spent last week in Alaska with my oldest son, dad, and brother. We caught a bunch of salmon and played tourist. Great time. BTW... Pretty wild having it never get dark the whole time we were there.

The water in the "fish you had to release" photo... looks pretty nice. What was that water temp?

So awesome that you guys got to spend time together like that. Your Pops still looks amazing.

I'm a fishing addict as you know. There was a time when all I could think about while I was out on my boat was filling up the box with as much meat as possible. Nowadays I find myself enjoying the time I can spend with my family and friends more than the fishing and diving. I have them confined all around me in the boat and there is usually no cell phone service once we get about 10 miles offshore. Everyone on board focuses on each other and communicates with their actual mouths (no texts or emails). Don't get me wrong, the fishing going on is still fun af... but the time spent together like that is almost impossible to find in these times we live in now.

Very happy for you guys!

Yep. It was a great time to be able to share. An Alaska fishing trip with his son's has always been on my Dad's bucket list and we were finally able to make it happen.

My family is all together. Yesterday, we decided to do a little kayaking and fishing up at Frenchman's dam. Nice haul. My youngest caught the biggest 20" Rainbow and I caught the most. The smallest was 13" (one of mine).

My twins went out Deep Dropping yesterday with their friends and brought back some super fine eating fish. Deep Dropping means the fish were down in like 800 - 1500 feet of water. You normally do this with electric reels because of the depth. The fish caught down in that deep cold water are some of the best tasting fish that exist and they are fish that are not commonly on menus.

They took some pics...

Some of the Tilefish they nabbed. Very tasty.

IMG_0202.jpg

Nice Snowy Grouper... extremely fine eating. Kinda rare.

IMG_8534.jpg

Some Reef Donkeys... aka Amberjacks. Not good eating but very fun to fight.

Spicoli snatched this Red Snapper. Not in season but they are also great eating.

I'm frying up some good stuff tonight.

I can't describe how good this fish tastes. Look it up and it doesn't really describe how great it is.

This one is massive... Yellow Edge Grouper... close to a record.

My twins caught that fish with a group of their HS friends over the weekend. One of their surfer friends made this video of it. It's hilarious to me but it's pretty cool too.

That yellow edge grouper was 1 pound less than the record. Crazy big for that species.

All I asked those little shitheads to do for me was save me the head and collar of it. Fuckers told me they couldn't cut through the backbone of that beast even with my big serrated fish knife. I think I believe em. Kinda bummed though cause I wanted to fry that whole head.
