Watched the condensed replay of the 2020 bills game, and man Robert woods is just a great guy to have on a team. I hope the rams know something we don’t about his diminished capacity going forward, because otherwise, still not sure why they cut him.

also, that last bills drive was ridiculous (2 conversions after 3rd and over 20 and fake pass interference), but josh Allen is silly in how he just doesn’t go down and rams defenders thought they had him and he’s just like, nah. Not worried about Donald, but hope everyone else is super dialed in on finishing tackles with that guy. Everyone knows, obviously, so it’s about execution, and that could be the difference.

I think the Woods trade was purely a cost/benefit analysis. He's 30 and coming off an ACL repair, and he had 4 years remaining on his contract, with an average cap number of $14.25M/year. Cutting him would have created $10M in dead cap for this year.

I was sorry to see him go too, but I understand.

Unfortunately, the Rams still have $11.9M of Dead-cap-$ on Woods for this season.

He got away with some face masks, that's why he wasn't "sacked". IIRC it was a face mask that forced the 3rd and 20. That should have been a sack and not a replay of downs. He got away, that's why I want us to crush them.

I think they just believed Allen Robinson was an upgrade at the position. Simple as that.

The PI on 4th down was pure homer bullshit. I will never think otherwise...

Rams came back and won that game far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. I think OBJ showed McVay the value in a WR that can come down with contested catches more often than not. McVay seemed to prefer a more finesse type of receiver before, but now I think he sees the importance of having that physicality paired with finesse receivers. I’m sure McVay is excited at the prospect of having Kupp, Robinson, OBJ, and Jefferson on the field at the same time.

Yes, but cutting him would have created more. The 6th round pick we received was incidental to getting out of his contract.
Actually, they picked up the 3.5 mill roster bonus for 2022 so it made no difference to the Rams if they cut or traded. Alas, they did get a 6th round draft pick and Woods salary became guaranteed so it worked out somewhat for them

According to Spotrac, they saved $7.1M by trading him.

The intangible loss was what an incredible we-not-me guy Woods was.

:pointup:These sums it up for me.

Definitely hated to see Woods go. He was easy to root for. Damn good player, durable too.

I think McVay fell in love with the jump ball part of OBJ’s game, went out and got another guy good at it in Robinson. We also know Stafford loved that type of play in Detroit, too.

I recall Allen throwing a tantrum in that game because Donald threw him down with one arm basically.

Man, it was devastating hearing of the departure of Bobby Trees, class act kind of guy you wanted on your team definitely a WE guy. Did alot for the team and for Kupp. I would hope somewhere down the road when he decides to retire he would want to retire a Ram and maybe have a last hurrah on his way out of the game. We can only wish he would consider being apart of the coaching staff for WRs if that’s what he wants to end up doing.

There's no way to save money by trading vs cutting, unless guaranteed money is involved. The dead money is dead money regardless. He had a roster bonus due 3/21 for 3.5 mill, and his 10 mill salary became guaranteed. Had Tennessee paid the bonus, they would have saved 3.5 mill, but the Rams paid it.

After the Tweet I posted, it looks like it came out that the Rams picked up the $3.5M roster bonus. That would make the savings $3.6M if their original report was correct.

So, again… take it up with them if you think they were wrong.

Im not saying they were wrong, Im saying you are.
There is no savings due to trading vs cutting since the Rams picked up the roster bonus. You dont have to be so testy about being corrected
