He had a down year sack wise last year. I'm happy he made the top 100.
That's fair considering he had a rough season. Next year he'll be top 10. No slow start this season.

How does Mack from Oakland end up higher on the list when AD#99 won defensive rookie of the year? That's bullshit
My guess would be due to the fact that the raiders defense was shit and Mack was one of the only beasts they had. So he stood out. Donald is better, but he has a better supporting cast. Just my guess. But I agree with you that AD should be higher.
Macks stats didn't impress me that damn much. He had 70 tackles. 1FF and 4 Sacks. Decent season but no where near what Donald did in comparison.

My only guess is that linebacker is a more flashy position then DT. Mack is a beast and yes Oakland's D was shit last year and he was the only bright spot they had, but he doesn't deserve to be way ahead of the defensive rookie of the year. That's not me being a homer either lol
Shit thats a good ranking considering he got molested, held, choked, and grabbed on damn near every play without a ref even throwing a flag EVEN WHILE THEY ARE WATCHING IT HAPPEN DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THEM!!!.... I still don't see how they couldn't throw a flag for 1/4 of those. pos ZEBRAS... If they called it right he'd be top 15 easy!

It's real simple, if you play on a loser you have to put up eye popping stats. If he was on a playoff team he'd be top 20. It's a popularity contest as much as anything. He balls out and I love watching him each Sunday in the Fall.

There wasn't any consensus on who the top rookie was last year. ESPN has Mack no. 1 in their 2014 draft re-rankings.

BUT dropping from 13 to 44!?! BS!! After ' NO Sacks the 1st 4 games, 10.5 in the last 12 games!!

44th really that's crap there is no way that over 40 other players are better than Quinn.Maybe this year the refs can do their jobs and not let every team hold him constantly.

We both think he's a better DE/player than he showed last year but how can you say a player is one of the 100 best players in the NFL when he's only the 6th best DE in the stat that defines a DE? Let's face it, his results, if not his play, didn't even deserve a top 100 designation. It's kinda hard to ignore 25% of the season.
There were 13 other players who had as many or more sacks than he did. Even if he had achieved the same sack rate per game in the first 4 games as he did in the last 12 he'd still only have averaged .875 sacks per game (14 total) and left him tied for 6th in sacks overall and 3rd in sacks among DEs. And that's playing next to Donald which cut down on the help his defenders got against him. Can't double team both of them.
I blame Williams for a couple of reasons. His failure to ease the Rams into his system which was responsible for almost nobody getting any sacks early on and the fact that they had Quinn staying back in coverage so often instead of rushing the QB. 6 PDs is ridiculous for one of the top edge rushers in football. Mario Williams who finished with 14.5 sacks had only 2 PDs. Was that because Williams wasn't as good as Quinn in pass defense or did the Bills let him rush the passer more often in obvious passing downs? Sometimes you just have to let a player do what he does best and not try to get so cute in your schemes. That might get other players on your team a few more sacks but I don't think that's a winning strategy in the long run. He's not as good in coverage as a LB or a DB and they aren't as good at rushing the passer as he is. I understand the concept of disguising where the blitz is coming from but when you have Donald and Quinn lining up next to each other I don't see that doing anything other than subtracting one of your past pass rushers from the equation.
So yeah, I think he's top 20 if given a chance. This year. Getting in the top 50 with his stats was a remarkable testament to how feared he is as an edge rusher and run defender. A reputation that he gained the prior year and will regain this year. Hopefully.

I grow weary of these meaningless rankings of all sorts. They now bore me to no end. I actually want to slap the people who give birth to these things. I guess I've become a cranky old dude in this aspect of life. 
Not arguing this point at all but if last year's play is the criteria how the heck does A. Peterson make it in after playing only one game?!
