Oh, that is very sad. Grew up watching the guy and enjoyed every minute of it. His health definitely took a turn for the worse a few years ago and, if it were me, I'd have hung it up to enjoy my time. But, I'm sure he loved what he did. RIP to a great!

Terrible news. His son Alex played here at the University of Arkansas. Prayers for him and his family over their loss.
I remember when other reporters would announce a trade or some type of NFL news but I would always wait until Mort said it himself.
It just wasn't official until Mort confirmed it.

He will be missed....

72 ain't old. It ain't young either.

To do that job you have to talk to a lot of people. To do that job well, you have to know who you can trust and who you can't. He was good.

I know that he had health issues, but still, he was one of the good ones.

May he rest in peace. My utmost condolences to his family and those who knew him best.

RIP Mort. Always on top of the NFL news front. I haven't watched ESPN in some years. Always looked forward to Mort's reporting for years. Class act. Time is moving fast. Didn't realize Mort was 72.

He sure looked to be in very bad shape for the last couple years. That didn't stop him from getting behind the cameras and reporting though. It was tough for me to watch him in that condition. He was clearly suffering.

He was a warrior in more ways than one.

The early days of “NFL Game Day” with Chris Berman and Chris Mortenson were some golden days.

RIP Mort!

I loved those Mort Report’s.
