I thought they had a couple openings with the trade and injuries. Is that not so?
Sure, point is who ever gets added, his contract will subtract from the savings from Young.

The Lions aren't going to trade Swift. He's 22 years old, on a rookie contract, and one of the few building blocks they have on offense.
Yeah, why would a young rebuilding team trade one of their top young players?

We prob need the money from Young for moves up and down from the PS for the rest of the year so cut that out of the equation. After that, it only leaves around 3 mill from Hav's restructure to do anything with in a trade. If we trade for someone, it's not gonna be a name.

Maybe there is something about Young’s play or attitude toward scheme that we have no way of knowing about. His snap count was lowered recently. It could have to do with a relationship issue with a coach. We will never know. It seems like a bad move just to save on a low dollar contract.

Forced pick imo. McVay wanted his receiving, playmaking TE to replace the soon departed Everett, who was his other forced pick for the position. Just like TuTu is for DJ. I don’t like the trend. McVay seems to be dictating some of the draft to the point they are picking positions regardless of BPA both were drafted too high.

Wouldn’t the Rams have to change their run scheme to add a blocking Fullback type?
Could be as simple as this was somewhat planned. The schedule started out a bit tough... Bears, Colts, Bucs, Seahawks, Cards, etc... So play Young, while Jones gets up to speed, get through that schedule and then make the move.

Once they felt Jones was ready, and after they got through that stretch, move him, save cap, & get Jones in the lineup.

Not sure how that is the point. Of course it will. That would be extremely obvious. You said we'd have to replace someone on the roster. That's not the case if we are down a roster spot. So then we wouldn't be removing any salary - only adding one.

Meant replacing Young... my mistake if that wasn't clear.

My point was we keep saying it saves $1.2M, but really it saves less because you have to account for the added salary of his replacement. Still likely save's about $800k, since the replacement may likely make much less and they will only be paying 9 wks worth if salary.

I hear you about the numbers thing. That's one area of the game that I admittedly am not terribly knowledgeable in.

Even so, it's just hard to think that if the Rams truly believe they have a shot at a SB THIS year that they would make a move that could potentially weaken the team THIS year even with longer term plans at play.

Well, if the moves we made signal a potential trade, someone in our division may overpay for a guy they think we also want.

That’s some poker thinking, but wouldn’t surprise me.

Kinda reminds me of how Schwarzenegger conned Stallone into not just doing “Stop or my mom will shoot”, but also paying too dollar for the script…LOL.

I see CB, FS, ILB, DE & TE as positions where we might be at a disadvantage against some of the other play-off bound teams.

Our biggest threat remains with the Cards and their 10 personnel sets against our secondary. Darious Williams & Robt. Rochell hopefully are back to full strength soon and double D helps. David Long is a disappointment and should be sidelined imo.
If this Rams unit suffers another injury setback we could find ourselves out of contention for home field advantage throughout the play-offs, ... a must position with the field of teams we'll be facing.

Tennessee offers a different kind of challenge with bulldozer Derrick Henry leading the charge. He's likely go over the 1000 yard mark against Indy this coming Sunday. The Rams depleted ILB group hardly seems up to the threat, so I wonder whether Bobby Brown will be activated for this game to help stuff the run from the interior line and if Ernest Brown IV might be ready to come off the practice squad to play the run at DE ?
