Am I missing something? If the Chargers and Raiders move to LA the Raiders move to the NFC? Why? They're still staying in the same geographic region. They wouldn't move either team out of the AFC west, the rivalry and history is to big. It'd be like the Rams and 9ers being in different divisions

One of them would have to move to the NFC - per league rules. They can't be in the same city and in the same conference. Apparently, both have volunteered to make the move to the NFC if necessary to make the move a reality.

Of course, none of this happens if the NFL doesn't bite on their move to LA and it doesn't necessarily mean that its the Rams who get bumped from the NFC West if it does happen.

the talk of re-alignment if any teams move to LA has been a constant since the whole process began. It is just one of those underlying issues that doesnt generate as much discussion as the relocation issues.

i don't understand why either San Diego or Oakland would have to switch conference if they shared same stadium. It's not like they'd be playing the same day

This bid actually is a re dated 1990's proposition that was vs shot down. It is a ploy to create leverage in their own markets. The 160 + acres in Carson is a viable site but the 2 team proposal seem to be an act of desperation to create some bargaining power. All this is a reaction to the Rams and Kroenke proposed move and slap in the face.

I would hate to see this happen. If for nothing else (rivalries, history, being built to play against our current division), because CBS's cameras or signal or something seems inferior. Watching AFC games always feels like I'm watching college football.

Yep.
Not to be offensive, but this does not even make sense.
So what if the Chargers and the Raiders moved to L.A.
They're both still on the west coast and not that far from where they are now.

I agree with that - great point.

If it had to happen I'd move the Chargers to the NFCW and the Hawks to the AFCW. Raiders have to much history with the Chiefs and Broncos and the Rams have too much history with the 49ers. Plus, as stated above the Hawks have been in the AFCW before

That actually makes sense. I agree - great rivalries between the Raiders and Chiefs; and between the Rams and 49ers. Rams fans in LA would get both the Rams/49ers rivalry; and (because the Chargers would be in the NFC West) the LA/San Francisco rivalry. Like having their cake, and eating it, too! (Of course, the Rams wouldn't be in LA, but you guys have already stuck around for 20 years, right?)

That being said, I think a Rams/Chiefs rivalry would be sweet, too.

Anything to distance ourselves from the past, I wouldn't be opposed to a name change also, Something along the lines of "St Louis City", replace the horns on the helmets with arches, anything associated with pre-1995 should be gotten rid of.

If STL comes out on top, I'd like to ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen again. If that means tearing down old rivalries and starting a new STL tradition, then so be it. But that's just me.

We would have KC and DEN as rivals. Both are geographically closer than any NFCW team, so I'm on board. STL vs KC would instantly be as fierce as any rivalry out there.

Just a wild idea ... Blow the whole thing up.

What if two expansion teams were added making it 34 total teams.

There are no divisions, just two conferences (AFC/NFC).

You play each team in your conference one time each for 16 regular season games (pre-season is always cross-conference).

Top six teams in each conference make the playoffs with the top two in each conference getting a playoff bye week.

The next four teams in each conference play for first round playoffs.

I suppose you could still keep divisions for rivalry purposes but it wouldn't weight as heavily as now. You would never have a team with a losing record make the playoffs this way and it seems to me a good way to truly prove out who is best. Plus, two new NFL teams/cities.

Sigh.

The Rams and Niners have played the 5th or 6th most times of any rivals. Only two games separates us at 65-63-3 in favor of the Niners right now. Only the Bears and Packers have played as many or more games and are as close.

That would put us as the 2nd best rivalry in the NFL. C'mon guys. Embrace the RAMS, not the city they play in. I am 29 years old....so when the Rams moved to St. Louis, I was 9. I didn't really start getting into football until I was 11 or 12, which means my entire life as a football fan has seen them in STL. Maybe it was because my dad has always been a huge fan, but I embrace the team and their history. You simply cannot just get rid of a top 5 NFL rivalry. I'm sure the NFL would rather force the Rams to move to LA and the others to stay put than lose that rivalry, if they had to pick between those two choices.

And the last few years that the Niners have been good? We've gone 2-3-1 against them the last three years....with the one year of nearly 10 full quarters played against one another. The rivalry is alive and kicking. We will not be going to the AFC, and fans of this team should not like the idea of it.

I'd pump the breaks on a Raider move - they're not gonna allow the Raiders/Niners in the same division....

hell they're not even allowed to play in the pre-season anymore after the last shoot out (in the parking lot)
