Dude has gotten better. He's drafted these guys:
AJ Green, Andy Dalton, Gio Bernard, Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap, Leon Hall, Mohamad Sanu, Kevin Zeitler, Jermaine Gresham, Jermey Hill.
Plus he's gotten rid of diva players like Chad Johnson, and to a lesser extent, Carson Palmer.
Plus his team has been to the playoffs last few years, so I'd say he's a pretty good GM. Still might at any moment could go Zygmunt mode.
Edit: I actually read the main article and just lold.
1st, Bill Bellichick and Ozzie Newsome get praised for letting older, veteran names go? Don't a lot of GMs do that?
2nd, the Patriots and Ravens are not the gold standards when it comes to drafting. Check out their draft histories. They aren't any better or worse than any other team. Hits and misses, just like all the rest.
3rd, regarding his view on Les Snead. The author says the Rams don't have depth anywhere except the defensive line, despite all the "stockpiling" of young talent. Well, duh. When you draft Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald in the first round, of course that's gonna happen.
4th, it was obvious the author didn't do enough research (or any). Les and Jeff Fisher have completely rebuilt the secondary via the draft. Janoris, Trumaine, TJ McDonald, and EJ Gaines if he continues what he did last year. Plus, there's LaMarcus Joyner still developing.
5th, the author just completely blasted Greg Robinson without any evidence. "He played nothing like a #2 pick as a rookie". Well no crap Sherlock, of course a player isn't gonna like a #2 pick as a freakin rookie. That's lazy writing.
6th, I actually agree with his thought on the FA signings. Most have failed. Except FA is overrated, and many FAs get headlines in March then become irrelevant 6 months later. And many GMs fall under that trap.
The Cheatriots aren't. The Ravens, though...Ozzie Newsome is the best in the business. Their drafts from 2002 to 2014:
2002 - Ed Reed, David Zastudil, Anthony Weaver, Chester Taylor, Chad Williams. (They got Bart Scott, Ma'ake Kemoeatu, and Will Demps as UDFAs.)
2003 - Terrell Suggs, Jarret Johnson, Ovie Mughelli, Aubrayo Franklin, and Tony Pashos.
2004 - Dwan Edwards was the only notable hit in the draft. (B.J. Sams and Don Muhlbach were notable UDFAs.)
2005 - Mark Clayton (remember him?), Jason Brown (before he sucked with us), Derek Anderson.
2006 - Haloti Ngata, Chris Chester, David Pittman, Demetrius Williams, Dawan Landry, Sam Koch, and Derrick Martin.
2007 - Ben Grubbs, Marshal Yanda, Antwan Barnes, Prescott Burgess, and Jared Gaither (supplemental draft).
2008 - Joe Flacco, Ray Rice (pre-wife-beating), Tavares Gooden, Tom Zbikowski, Oniel Cousins, and Haruki Nakamura.
2009 - Paul Kruger, Lardarius Webb, Jason Phillips, and Cedric Peerman. (Dannell Ellerbe was a UDFA.)
2010 - Ed Dickson, Dennis Pitta, and Arthur Jones.
2011 - Jimmy Smith, Torrey Smith, Jah Reid, and Pernell McPhee.
2012 - Courtney Upshaw, Kelechi Osemele, Bernard Pierce, Gino Gradkowski, Asa Jackson, and DeAngelo Tyson. (Justin Tucker and Bobby Rainey are notable UDFAs.)
2013 - Matt Elam, Arthur Brown, Brandon Williams, Kyle Juszczyk, and Ricky Wagner. (Marlon Brown was a UDFA.)
2014 - C.J. Mosley, Timmy Jernigan, Terrence Brooks, Crockett Gilmore, Brent Urban, Lorenzo Taliaferro, John Urschel, and Michael Campanaro. (UDFAs include Jeremy Butler, James Hurst, and Zachary Orr.)
Free agent signings include Elvis Dumervil, Daryl Smith, Steve Smith, Justin Forsett, Chris Canty, Kendrick Lewis, Matt Birk, and Jacoby Jones. All of them starters and impact players.
Trades include Eugene Monroe from the Jaguars for only late round picks. Monroe is now one of the best left tackles in the business. An aging Haloti Ngata who was suspended for PED use for a fourth and a fifth. Gino Gradkowski for a 2016 draft pick from the Broncos.
Belicheat is overrated as a GM, but Newsome is arguably going to go into the HOF as one, as well as a tight end.
