As I “tried” to express it ain’t happening next year and may take several years to execute but it starts with finding a young shut down corner (maybe 2023 2nd round or 2024 1st round) and working Durant into a starting role. Then work towards the lineup I suggested.
Would be surprised if he's on the Rams in several years. Might be interesting if he's gone even after this year.

I dunno.. Minka Fitzpatrick is the best player in the Steejers secondary by far. He would be worth $20M a yr to that team I would think.
Guess I'm more of the Mcvay/Mcdermott philosophy. I prefer to pay pass rushers and corners.

Several years from now that contract will be expired won't it?

Worked for Aeneas Williams. Could be something to consider at some point.
Yeah.
Ramsey is definitely physical enough to play the position.
Once he starts declining, a move to safety could net him a few more years in the league.

I dont think we are there yet, though.

Ramsey currently is assigned more than any other CB in the league. Those extra tasks don't show up on the stat sheets though... so most don't even notice.

He's a Swiss army knife with attachments that are completely unique.

Also... that Sauce fuck is allowed to commit blatant PI on almost every play. It's hard for me to watch and take it seriously.

One of the genius aspects of the "star" position and Raheem's approach in general were that they got Ramsey to buy-in to the idea of playing in the slot. If they had told him they're gonna put him in the slot on a lot of snaps because he wasn't an eraser like he used to be and we need his tackling in the box that could have gone bad. But Raheem sold it well and had full buy-in from the player which is extremely valuable and part of the reason we made that Super Bowl run. Though I will note again that our secondary had tons of issues that could not be capitalized on by opponents due to the rush. Which is a primal reason we fell so hard this year after losing Von.

Also and btw I see the idea that he would be a top SS and agree with it. But the problem is you can find SS quite easily which means they're not expensive from a cap perspective. Whereas Ramsey is being paid as an eraser CB. This is a problem no matter where they play him. So if they do transition him to S it would require a recalculation in value and I imagine Ramsey is not ready yet to accept that mentally. Just a guess there, because he has not been exposed enough yet to where the truth is undeniable.

The bottom line is that he has lost a step. You don't see how much until those occurrences where he gets in a footrace or has to cover in space without a hand on the guy. Then he gets roasted. He is still very good at getting a hand on the receiver and using that to maintain position in a lot of circumstances without being called, but this is why I say now is the time to move him. Now. Not when the entire league is on to how much he's declined, which it will be in another season or so.

Either way if they keep him around with a restructure I'm fine with it. I love his toughness and attitude. I just think he is grossly overpaid now for what he is and I imagine the Rams are looking hard at this for the offseason. So where it goes, we'll see. Just want to say I'm not campaigning for the guy to get moved or anything. I just think we have hit the "if you're smart you'll move him now" window in his career given his current pay rate.

Ramsey may be a fine safety....may be, maybe not.
The problem with moving him to S is you may see some improvement at S by majorly weakening CB.
Same issue with replacing Allen with Shelton at C.
You may see a bit of an improvement at C but will majorly weaken G.
I don't see either move happening.

Well I’ll HOPEFULLY disagree with at least Shelton playing guard. If he is the Starting Guard IMO The Rams are F’mmm’d!
Ramsey would make an excellent strong safety, but his value is still at CB. He would be an excellent SS. He still wants to play with that SS for the Chargers.
Hard call, but I could actually see him being traded to the Chargers? Either way he was well worth his value as a Ram & has improved & matured nicely. He will do what’s best for The Rams though when it comes down to where he plays.

I dunno...I think Troy Palamoula (sp?) and Ed Reed were worth as much anyone else on their respective defenses. Same with Ronnie Lott after he moved to Safety.

I think Ramsey could be that kind of impact guy and that includes being an excellent blitzer.

I wouldn’t move Ramsey to safety until we get a solid CB1 to replace him.

Also, even though he can tackle, it would be best to have him at FS. Let him roam and high point every deep ball.

He does look good off the edge. I know he's not strong enough but... Imagine a dime look for passing downs where he is one of the DBs but then shifts to the blindside edge. I might be crazy though. :laugh2:

Not saying I would do it in 23', but I would look to do that in the future IF they see him as a guy they want to retire a Ram. And as he reaches the ages of 30 or 31 etc... he will be best suited moving to S.
