Ehh....who knows?
I just think someone who is an udfa or on the ps like Edwards makes the roster.....also, the Rams may not even keep 6 WRs on the 53 given all the TEs.
Whitington, Mumpfield and Smith are all sort ehh back up receivers. Hopefully one of them can step up and lock in a real receiving roles. If so, that could be Whittington.
Mostly agree. Could see an UDFA making the final-53 but, I think. it would be for Xavier Smith.

Also could see just 5 WRs on the final-53, with 3-4 more on the Practice Squad ... any one of whom could be designated as a game-day active.

If the Rams are going to carry five TEs (or even six, with Dan Villari), they will have to carry one less player at a couple other positions.

The chances of a UDFA making the 53 are really low but not none. Not only do they need to shine in OTAs and camp, most that we have on the roster would need to take a BIG next step as they weren't able to crack the 53 last year. Additionally, they almost HAVE to show ST talent and ST talent that's superior to WRs at the bottom of the 53 that are already on the rosters. Now the argument for that is ST weren't that good so there's a lane for guys to show out there.

I do not expect any UDFA WR's from last year to make the 53 nor any from this year but there's always the 1 in a 100 chance. For me I'll take the free money and say it won't happen.

That being said, I'm in the camp that I want to see WR3 solidified somehow. My hopes lay in guys that already showed enough to make the 53 last year taking another step (Mumpfield) or a new guy coming in CJ Daniels. That being said, I think I'm sorta resigned to being really fragile at WR next year but able to run a lot of 11 personnel plays out of 12 personnel with similar EPA per play as we've had from 11 by the use of Fergy and Klare in the slot and outside.

All of this will be moot though when we trade for AJ Brown.

...

I don't believe the Rams have signed any 2026 undrafted free agent WRs.

You're right that it would be difficult for an UDFA (from prior years' drafts ... like Presley, Williams, Edwards and Scott) to male the final-53 ... especially should the Rams only carry five WRs.

However, if they carry six WRs, an UDFA (from a prior year or anyone they may sign in the coming months) would only need to beat-out Xavier Smith ... an Undrafted FA WR who will turn 29 at the start of the season.

Of course ... as you noted ... the signing of, or trade for a veteran WR changes the equation.

That's great then. I can't say I watched any of his games. He wasn't a prospect on my radar (I didn't really look at any TE's and barely Sadiq), I am quoting from memory a couple draft reports and I may not be accurate.

Mind you, I have high hopes for the kid if catches aren't an issue. I can see a scenario where he's a real weapon this season and our top TE by year two.
I've seen several reports that have him rated above Ferg's rating last year. I've got high hopes for both.

You say "only need to beat out X...". That may take some doing because of his ST contribution.

You're right. I will send a nice basket of mini-muffins to Xavier Smith, with my apologies.

Seriously though. I was simply trying to make a point to a previous poster who suggested that it would be difficult for an Undrafted WR to make the final-53, that Smith was himself an undrafted free agent WR and would be 29 this year ... so a younger UDFA WR might be able to unseat Smith should the Rams carry 6 WRs.

I think Blueberry muffins convey a sincere apology better than chocolate chip. What do you think?

Anxious to see some of the others in preseason that showed some last year in Edwards, Presley, Williams and even Travis Scott, who was added to the squad later. Might now amount to much, but maybe one of them could shine.
Like you, I enjoyed watching the three Ram 2025 preseason games, due in most to the variety of rookie WR UDFA's. At this time I feel its important going into this TC....Fact: Rams carried 4 wide outs on the practice Squad for most of last season. Highly UNUSUAL for Snead.

Brennan Presley, Tru Edwards & Mario Williams all 3 WR's entering their 2nd seasons, Then added Tyler Scott to the PS too, going into his 4th season (added 10/29/25). I saw some raw latent talent in this above group Presley/ Edwards & Williams. I see this as a golden opportunity here in 2026 with the Rams to ignite their Ram careers.

Whittington entering his 3rd season just could not get it going at all with his near 40% of time on the offense.

Mumpfield was on the field for 33% of the offense & looked to have a better rookie season compared to Whittington, to be fair Whittington was dealing with injuries (chest /knee) all season.

Smith 20%
on the offense with most of his playing time through 33.5% special teams.

Add in through in draft selection CJ Daniels and the Rams have 10 WR's currently. Surely out of the 8 non starters McVay can find a hard working solid 3rd wide out able to start & fill in should old age kick back up in Adams or more incidents with Nacua occur.

Daniels played basketball and also competed in track & field at Lilburn (Georgia) Parkview High.
In terms of playing football and basketball. Daniels said the movements in basketball correlated to how he moved on the field, especially his releases at the line of scrimmage.

We are sleeping on his athleticism. As I have pointed out above, his RAS score is misleading

And I thought I saw that by the end of season and playoffs Mumpfield was garnering the lions share of 3rd WR work.

Still has to work on hands tho

I am just not that impressed with Mumpfield nor Whittington. They are both JAGs and the Rams need a better player than a JAG as their 3rd receiver.

He's my favorite draft pick from this year. I like his energy, his drive and up bringing. The Rams have been lucky with a few late round picks, sure hope he's one of them.

I am hoping they sign either Diggs (if they can get him under control) or Allen.
I am solid position that the well seasoned tenderized Keenan Allen talent tank meter is just a hair above empty on his way to 35 yrs old.

Diggs would seem to be highly lusted after by all the NFL teams according to You Tube. Heard Washington is a serious big courting team at the moment. That's where he is from. Diggs usual yearly cost has been coming in @ $11 million for each the last 4 seasons:wow2:. Is this okay with you?

When he gets a new contract it will be his 5th team in the last 7 seasons.:sur::emergency:

Appears Rams have approx. $25 million of cap space is the sites are up to date.

I have no real issues with Diggs being a Rams but here we are having problems with our best WR in need of a new ultra mega $$$ contract .....I rather have some of that 2026 cap space $$$ helping secure Nacua for a long term over any stop gap year event with Diggs.

I am okay with a 11M salary for one year.

Puka's extension will be a major hit next year and the following years.
