If we pay Kyren 14 mil, which is what it will likely take (minimum, thanks to Barkley resetting the market) to resign him long-term, I'll be disappointed. And I really, really like him. It's just such a rb-rich draft with quality through round 5, I just hope we don't spend resources there when our young D is going to cost a ton down the road.
BTW, the one area he's truly excellent at is pass protection. That can't be understated with a 37 year old qb, so I get the interest. But my goodness, if he prices himself out, let's take the comp pick.
Oh… the market for Kyren won’t be anywhere near that. Very productive.. but just not explosive at all. He’s not a difference maker.

Rolling the dice w/ Blake c. and a rookie could be dangerous. I'd much rather keep KW on the roster.
Speaking of which... he's not a F/A until after this year, correct??
So, we go ahead & draft Omarion or Tuten. Keep all 3 of KW, BC & rookie RB homerun hitter kid. You run the new kid in the 1st half, run up the scoreboard, then grind them down with KW and/or BC. That's a strat that I don't think you can beat.

Correct, he's under contract for 2025 with a nice raise to 5 mill. There's really urgency for the Rams to sign him to an extension at this point. Seeing how they played hardball with Stafford, he'd be wise to take what he's offered, if offered. I think he's a darned good RB but not irreplaceable.

I do think it would be most prudent though not to resign before the draft, see how it plays out first. No need or hurry to do anything yet.

Yeah sure LOL — like that’s going to happen. You really get it !!!

I’ll just watch what happens. SO What’s your call a $5 million raise - lmao— won’t say never though.

You use Stafford as an example, but there there are SO many sample sizes of how The Rams work.

Kyren is a different CAT though,IMO
he will talk a Home Town discount.UNlike Alaric Jackson he still has another year on his contract. EJ53 & Cam Akers are just a couple examples.

We can use Jefferson & Kupp as examples.Even Henderson & SO many more that when The Rams are DONE w/u they are done.Makes me think Kupp on the trading block was TRUE!!

I'm curious on the bolded part. What's the urgency on his end to take whatever is offered? Why wouldn't it be wise for him to hit the market?

Never can tell what you are saying or asking, but yes Kyren "earned" a 4th year performance bonus which boosted his 2025 salary from roughly 900k to 5.3 mill. Snead had said that extension talks with Kyren were going to be discussed and that he was an important part of the team. I think there is enough writing on the wall that if the Rams were to offer him a contract, he'd be wise to not over value himself

Snead made it clear that a contract extension for him was on the table this off season, and with Williams salary for 2025 not guaranteed, it is the ideal time for him to sign an extension. Sure he can roll the dice and play out 2025, and hit free agency. But he has had some injuries, the Rams did invest in Corum and his agent know that this is a talented RB class. It would be one thing if the Rams werent willing to discuss it, (seemingly like they did with EJ last year) but if they are? Got to get that deal done, he's still young enough to be looking at another contract down the road

Ok, I get it.

There are always risks for a player waiting until free agency but it's probably the best move for him. Last year McSnead talked about extending Jones but they didn't want to pay him much so those talks got scrapped and he got traded. He had some injury issues, too.

Well, yesterday he signs an $11m deal with Seattle. It didn't make sense for him to take a large discount last year and I don't think it makes sense for KW to take one this year. A slight discount, like say 10%, would make sense. If his free agent market is $12-$14m, I can see him jumping on a $10.5 - $12.5m extension offer.

Snead didnt talk about Jones like this. Snead initiated that talks with Kyren were on the table, and how important he is to the team. Kyren missed 11 games due to injury in his first 2 years, and with the amount of carries and pass blocking opportunities he plays in a position that offers much higher risk of injury. Not to mention, Kyren's 5 mill payday is not guaranteed, they can cut him with next to no dead cap.

Oh, but they did! A couple of weeks ago I looked this up and found articles from last February and early March where both Snead and McVay were saying the same types of stuff they're saying about KW. "We're working on extension with Jones, he's an important part of the team, one of the leaders on D with AD, yada yada yada..."

And then on 3/24/24 Snead announced there would be no extension and they would let him play out his contract. Pretty sure that Jones not going for the discount is what happened.

Your point on Kyren's injury history is well taken.

With EJ53 he seemed to be playing games a little. The Rams don’t try to share there dirty laundry though.

His injury issue during training camp seemed to be a little odd.He might have been threatening a holdout as well ? At least that was the impression that was being thought???

Kyren LOVES being a RAM & I can see him taking a lower priced contract to stay a Ram.It might actually be best for his future of stating healthy and longevity of his career.

He can jump all he fucking wants, In no way do we pay him $12M a year.
