We paid all-pro punter 6 million per year, I believe, and that was several years ago Why not pay the all-pro kicker? Matt Gay was special. You keep special players.
2 year 8 mill during the first year of McVay's tenure. I'd say this is an example of learning from ones mistakes

The Rams never paid that much for Hekker.
Also, the Rams were in a fight just to get under the salary cap this offseason when the Gay decision was made.

I understand. But Johnny Hekker was also trending down while Matt Gay was trending up. But then again, Hekker was extremely valuable in Jeff Fishers offense. -lol

Thats just not true
They lost because they couldnt stop the Steelers in the 4th Q, and couldnt move the ball themselves.
Blaming it on the kicker is pathetic
C’mon man. You know the 4q would have been completely different with a bigger lead coming out in the second half. In fact, they probably don’t throw the ball on the first play of 3q and don’t give up that easy 7 points.

Gay most likely makes those kicks and is well worth the investment this year and for the next 4 years too.

I think that’s nonsense.
They had a 17-10 lead Pittsburgh had the ball on their own 40. I’ll take the Rams in that spot every time.
Missing kicks surely didn’t help, they still should have won regardless

We lost to the Steelers because Maher missed those kicks. Not only because of the points not put on the board but also because of the way it affected the game flow and momentum.
Agreed. But I also agree with Dieter that he has too high a cap hit going forward.

The kicker, I believe it was Wilkins, had it made when the Rams were the greatest show on turf. All he had to do was make extra points, which Maher seemed to have trouble with even doing that.
