I hate the whole "All in now" kinda bullcrap statement. We will try to be all in every year. The Cheatriots have managed to keep things going for 20 years. I think McVay will bring the juice EVERY year.

The Patriots virtually never go "All in". They let players go when they get expensive, and trade them or get a comp pick. They trade down in the draft, and often get future picks. Because their system has been stable, they draft players who fit their needs as backups, and develop them so they're ready to replace the starters when they start to get expensive. They almost never restructure contracts to push cap hits forward, to give them an advantage in year one, so the few players they don't think can be replaced they can afford going forward.

I want the Rams to be that way. Only trading picks for vets if really necessary. Accumulating picks so the Rams can have lots of quality depth. Realizing that even star players can often be replaced, and overall that the team may be better because of making those hard decisions. That way the Rams can be serious contenders every season.

We know what went wrong.

McVay tipped off run/pass plays with the tight ends and Belichick picked up on it watching film.

They knew what was coming.

Had McVay not had that tendency the Rams would have most likely won it all. The defense was fantastic, they held the 4th highest scoring offense to 13 points.

i want to hear what he thinks about it, not the supposed tells cheats players saw that game.

there were plenty of plays to be made that didn't get made.

OK then name the "plenty of plays" lets discuss them. And don't even do the "Cooks dropped 2 TD passes" OK.

And these were not "supposed tells" they were clear tipoffs based on the TE on the field that indicated a run or pass play. The Patriots saw them and knew what the Rams were going to do, run or pass. That's on McVay and his play design.

"What he thinks about it" is hopefully that he isn't going to have his playcalls figured out that easily and that he needs to mix things up. When I read the interview with the NE defender that spelled all of this out all I could think was "opportunity lost" because the D played a great game and it was there for the taking.

McVay had nothing new to show the best HC and defensive mind the NFL has ever seen.

Lesson learned we hope...........

Like the "Get Back Coach", the Rams should bring in a "Game Plan Coordinator", one who knows and understands Coach McVay's tendencies. The GPC will remind McVay to mix up his play calling during the game if he starts locking in on a certain pattern. The GPC could be any offensive coordinator; someone astute enough to recommend plays that may exploit the strategies of the defense as they see it from the booth. Just an opinion, following on the heels of the "Get Back Coach".

I watched the same game you did and I didn't get the sense that there were plays to be made as you said.

The Patriots defense stuffed the Rams, they had no chance and scored the least amount of points in the history of the SB.

Last Super Bowl was a mighty big stage for young Mr. Goff, this coming season will belong to him and the Rams totally awesome offense.

I agree with the first part and am optimistic about the second part.
Let's hope he learned from his horrible game and has the fortitude to put it behind him.

I have to eventually re-watch this game in the All 22 but just haven't been able to get myself to do it.

However, I did re-watch the ALL 22 on the Rams first series and this is what I saw.

First down - Gurley OBVIOUSLY tripped but no penalty called. The player stuck his foot out completely obvious to everyone but no referee saw it.

Second down & 8 - Goff rolled out to his right and had Woods open deep with two players about 5 yards away. One on the left and one on the right.

If Goff passes short, it gets intercepted. However, if he passes it long, only Woods would have been able to catch it.

Goff for some reason didn't want to chance it and decided to hold on to the ball and run it out of bounds at the line of scrimmage.

In the regular season, I think he goes for it. Difficult throw but I have seen him make some difficult throws even when rolling out to the right.

Third down & 8 - Gurley fades to the left and close to the line of scrimmage and the closest player is 12 yards away. In addition, if Gurley gets the ball and gets by this one player, he is gone for another 20 to 30 yards easy. In addition, it would have taken a heck of a play by that one defensive player to even tackle Gurley short of the first down.

However, Goff stayed with his main read even though he had plenty of time to look to the left and see an open Gurley. Goff instead threw into double coverage to Reynolds going short over the middle that fell incomplete. Reynolds wasn't even remotely open on that play and Goff tried getting the ball to him. Dumb play really.

Just rewatching those two plays makes me wonder if Goff got caught up in the significance of the game and didn't play like he normally does (especially in the first half). He seemed to start to get going about halfway thru the third quarter when we had two drives that could have been touchdowns if Cooks made two possible although difficult catches.

Thank you. And that was only the first 3 and out.

The offense had some real stinkers of games towards the end of the season. Would love to hear mcvay address it with his coaches and players. Find out how he will try to ensure it doesn't happen as often moving forward.

If anyone figured out that we were indeed tipping plays, my guess is it was this asshole....

That what doesn't break you makes you stronger. There is no way a Super Bowl loss in their 2nd year broke McVay or Goff - but it shows there is work to be done. I have faith they are putting in that work to become stronger as we speak.

I decided to watch the second series last night and OMG - what was Goff thinking during the game

First two plays were decent plays - a 5 yd jet sweep and a short pass to Reynolds for a first down

Then 1st & 10 at around the 50, the Rams only send out Woods and Cooks

Woods goes 15 yards or so and cuts to the left.

3 Patriots players are playing deep - two of them go for Woods cut.

At that precise moment, Cooks gets free deep over the middle about the 20 yard line.

Goff however holds on to the ball way too long and then gets hit below the knees by a defender coming in. it could be argued he was block that way into Goff so no penalty but Goff throws weekly short of Woods because of the hit.

If Goff read the play correctly, he could have thrown immediately once Cooks made his way free deep. Another tough throw but Goff has made tough throws.

On second & 10, a short pass to the left goes for 7 yards - not a bad play by Goff

However, 3rd and 3 and what could have been a game changing play.

Rams run a 3 WR bunched together to the right.

Reynolds goes short over the middle, he is open for a sec but Goff throws late and pass gets knocked away.

However, that's not what I am referring to as the play of the game.

Woods runs into two patriots who block him from going out completely freeing Cooks to fade to the right.

Cooks was completely open with an open run down the right side line. I want to emphasize open run because the two patriots were completely focused on Woods and there was only one other Patriot in the area and he was 20 yards deep down the middle. If Goff sees it and hits Cooks on the run, Cooks possibly makes it to the end zone. Even if he doesn't, he gets pushed out of bounds at best at the 5 yard line.

That's two series with two plays each that I feel Goff possibly makes during the regular season. Even if he only completes one of the 4 plays, each one by itself could have turn that game into a completely different game.

I will reiterate what I said before but I believe Goff was overwhelmed by the significance of the game (especially in the first two offensive series of the game).

What about accountability for the play caller? The guy who draws up/designs the plays and decides the call play in and play out has a lot of culpability here. A lot.

20 years of the same HC, QB and system has kept them on top.

I'm looking forward to many years of the same for our boys. I just hope I don't have to have a TV next to the toilet by the end of those 20 years.

Not once did I say that McVay did not have a bad game.

In fact, I felt he made some pretty crappy play calls and didn't help Goff out at all.

Only two runs in the first two series and one was a jet sweep.

No screens in the first two series.

Having mass protection and sending out only two receivers on a first and 10 and then not having them leave their blocks after a couple seconds of maintaining their block.

That one play they could have made a ton of yards with Reynolds leaving his block and fading to the right.

No one was covering that area.

I am just saying that Goff also didn't help himself. He had a couple plays alone in the first two series that he could have done a lot better. And normally - he does.

He happened to have his crappiest game of the season in the super bowl and I hope he learns from it.

And I think he will.:yess:(y)

That probably changes if they call that PI, but yeah. Both Ds balled out and we got caught in a pattern that McVay probably had no clue about.

We all have various things we prefer.

One thing we know McVay can do is adjust. Don't be surprised if we don't change things up, go two TEs and power run or play action out of that. Or start out in an 11 personnel and then have Everett move out into a trips formation. That's going to put an LB or a safety in coverage and neither is a good match for Everett.
