We have history of coming out of the gate slow. We went oh fer in the preseason. That wouldn't bother me much, but we played poorly the previous two preseasons and come out flat in the regular season.
I'm not all that optimistic. I think it'll be close. But do we have enough offense? Will we have any offense?
I'm with you snackdaddy, as much as I'd like to think the Rams can prevail, both teams have something to prove coming out of the gate. Unfortunately, I don't have as much faith in Foles ability to win with his arm (in this particular game). I think it will indeed be close, history suggests that. However, without what are probably the Rams best 3 RB's, I suspect the game will turn on a Foles interception.
We've spent a good deal of time commenting about Foles past 2 year record and the endless comparisons between his Cinderella season and 2014. The question remains as to which season was the real Foles. I think they both are. Which is another way of suggesting that we may be frustrated (at times) with Foles accuracy. It's not that he's inaccurate, it's more about a questionable ability to throw into tight windows near the goal line. It just seems to me that while he's a descent QB (with potential) and see's the field well (much better than Bradford), he "tends" to throw into spaces and let the receivers adjust to the ball. Not a bad thing, it's just his style.
Is he capable of leading this team? Absolutely. But I suspect Foles being a gunslinger of sorts, will let it fly or try to force the ball at times. Unfortunately, the WR's (other than Quick) don't really fight for the ball as aggressively as I'd prefer. If the Rams can get though the first 5 games at 2-3, I'll be satisfied and optimistic that they have a "shot" at a winning season.
When it's all said and done, unless and until this OL finds its stride-consistency and the receivers prove that they can get open consistently, this team will struggle to put up the points necessary to compliment this D.
Personally, my greatest fear is that the O will struggle early before coming together around mid season and we find ourselves saying once again, "wait until next year." Fortunately, it's just my opinion and I hope like hell I'm completely wrong.
