Thanks for posting these, along with the descriptions, @Merlin, very educational.

Agree, Blythe needs to be replaced yesterday. I don't know if the issue is in his ankle or his head, but looking at these and watching the game, he seems to be the weakest link. I wonder if he isn't partially responsible for Havs regression.

I said make a change in another thread after seeing some of these pics great job again. Blythe needs to take a seat.

Funny thing is I thought Gurley missed opportunities to run outside in past games. Now, it does without success. Hendu may be the answer. Don't know what's up with TG.

Gotta cut this short to get some work done but I believe 2 things after watching this game:

1. Blythe needs to be replaced right now. Not during the bye. Now. He is killing us.

2. Henderson needs to be the featured back in this offense. Let Gurley settle into a support role it is what it is. I love TG but he's not running with his usual vision and instincts.

I can’t argue this. I’m a big supporter of Blythe but he has really struggled lately and in this game was killing us. I saw this game the same way you
did, and it didn’t get too much better for Blythe as the game went on. He’s a hell of a backup but has become a liability now. What i don’t get is the missed blocks, he’s usually percent assignement wise.

Gurley should also take a backup role at this stage.Save him for goaline, short yardage and third down pass situations.

I think the bad OL might be in Gurley's head. I think Hendy, on the other hand, is going to break one in the not too distant future.

I'm not bagging on Gurley, but maybe a little rest and seeing Hendy go off might help him snap out of it. I think his issues right now are more mental than physical.

This looks so much like 2016 Gurley it’s not even funny. That dude missed a ton of holes and opportunities because his confidence in the line was null.

I promise TG didn’t just lose the ability to find the correct hole and hit it. Henderson looks great though. And might be one of those RBs that has the ability to make something out of nothing. I bet he breaks one vs the Bengals.

Great stuff Merlin. Effort & analysis like this is why i love our members here. (y)

I'm not apologizing for Blythe here, because he isn't getting the job done at all...but Deion Jones is a very underrated LB in this league.

Agree... thanks merlin. And I wonder how much playing next to Brian Allen is hurting Blythe. They've only played together for a couple of games, and in the very first picture it looks like Blythe is trying to double-team or "chip" with Brian Allen before moving on to the next level. When the double team failed, Blythe was completely out of position to get to the linebacker.

I think he is still injured. It’s not a coincidence that Gurleys best game was with a healthy Oline vs the Panthers.

What do you guys think I've been yelling about even before the season. YES BLYTHE WAS THIS BAD LAST YEAR!!! I was complaining about him before the season. I used the first possession the the NFC Championship game as an example. Like I said all you had to do was watch the Rams first possession of the game. Blythe blew 2 of the 3 blocks accounting for a 3 and out.

Thank you Merlin for showing everyone just how bad this guy is. He's not a starting OG by any measure. All this media nonsense about how good Blythe is makes me want to scream...cuz it's all BS. I'm sorry guys but this is all on Kromer!!! He reviews every damn play and yet he leaves this JAG as a starter.

This proves what I've been saying. Even freaking Demby is better than Blythe. As long as he is starting this o-line will struggle. That last play illustrates perfectly what I've been saying about Blythe. His lack of athleticism and his short arms are a huge liability. It's why he can't sustain a block and is just a speed bump on the way into the backfield.

Maybe Blythe's ankle injury is a bigger deal than he's letting on and the drop off is that much worse.

If that's the case, I hope Corbett is able to get up to speed and let Blythe rehab because Blythe at 100% is average and clipped isn't helpful.

Going to just stick to the run game this week, as I have trees to plant in my yard and the wife giving me dirty looks as I sit on my posterior and obsess over our favorite team...

First run play of the game, it's a power run up the middle, extremely simple. But of course there is a mistake...

Situation:

Pre-snap:

At the snap we can see a run up the gut. Allen's got the NT locked up, Blythe's responsibility is pretty clear:

A beat later Blythe is realizing he effed up. If he had simply gotten a hat on Jones here Gurley would have had a successful run (4+ yards on first down):

At the handoff 4 of the 5 OL are executing this play about as good as you can do it. All it takes is one guy though:

Gurley tries to bounce it outside:

What should have been a successful run is now a stuff for -1 yard loss:

Just want to note that Blythe is actually right here. I would say that he underestimated Jones' speed or overestimated his athleticism. But he's supposed to bump the DT to help Allen seal him before peeling off to pick up Jones.

Yep. Where he effed up was his assignment blowing by him. It's on him like many of the mistakes in the run game.

Didn't go into the second half runs btw. He doesn't get any better after halftime. Only reason he's in there IMO is they probably value his pass pro in comparison to the other options but I think it's time to make a change.

I think once Corbett is up to speed, we might just see that change. I wonder if Blythe will slide over to Center if Allen is still making mistakes. He'd have an easier time at Center. It's too bad he's fallen off so much. He was solid last year until late in the season.

Yeah I hope Corbett can help us out.

Only reservation I have right now with Blythe and whatnot is that maybe he's injured. Rams tend to keep that stuff under wraps. But if so he's hurting the team.

Blythe never got over that ankle injury....we saw him last year--as long as the DT was under 320 he played pretty well. Fact is: all teams are loading up with DTs at 320+ to force guards to be power guys---along with pass blocking guards who have to be around 305 to sustain their quickness (not counting the athletic freaks like Saffold at 330 who still has some quick)...a lot of guards are finesse these days compared to 20 years ago.
