Derrick Henry ...... Melvin Gordon ...... Kareem Hunt ..... Joe Mixon ( possible cap cut ) ......... this would surely be the time to do it .

Gordon is really the only one we’ll rounded enough for this system (in my opinion)

I am tired of his arrogant pressers. That is why i stopped watching them altogether. Plus the no heart attitude
My opinion of him changed after the Championship game with the Saints. He was physically OK to play, but mentally he was in LaLa land. And, last season there were a couple of games that his body language said he wasn't into pass protecting.
When the Rams Zone Blocking scheme is working, EVERY RB for the Rams averages over 3 yards before contact. The Rams don't need a 10-Mil a year RB to score 30 points a game.

TG is due to make $17.2 M this year. His dead cap is a huge $12.6 M. That said if they get no takers he could be released allowing them to spread the dead cap over 2 years. Also, it probably will be far less than $12.6M in dead cap as it's almost certain that there is offset language in the contract. TG won't sign anywhere else for basement prices, so the offset would be substantial. Also, regardless they would seem to add at least about $10M in cap space. That would get them Fowler if they are so inclined.

That said, although Hendeson is a good back he's not IMO a featured franchise-type RB so they would have to draft a RB and it will be RB by committee this year. Not exactly what you want for a team with SB aspirations. Why would a team give up much for a player that comes with an enormous price tag and who potentially might be released? I would be very surprised if they were able to trade him.

IMO they would be better served keeping TG for 2 years, draft another RB to groom and yet still play RB by committee this year and next. This would allow them to simply play TG as they normally would with no snap count. TG can still be a playmaker if he has a decent o-line in front of him. No RB could be productive behind their 2019 o-line.

This is the danger of backloading a contract.

While not necessarily towards you @8to12 , but funny how some think it's okay to judge our star RB's body language or anybody else for that matter, while on the other hand when you do that with our QB you get berated. " What he has to be a rah rah guy?".

Hate to see it if true. Gurley is one of my favorite Rams of all time. But in McSnead I trust... I guess.

The contract was a death sentence. TG will not be able to successfully carry the load to earn his contract and therefore becomes a cap liability.

Who knows what is going on here? A couple of random thoughts;
  1. Gurley isn’t exactly a speed back. He’s not really a classic power back either. I don’t know... maybe it’s best to describe his style as an “attitude runner”. So, it’s important his head is on straight. That seems to be the question that isn’t really known; where is Todd’s head at? Don’t know.
  2. If these rumors are true, I am sure it doesn’t feel good at all. But, the Rams have paid Gurley handsomely compared to the trend with RB’s. So, he’s not exactly been abused in LA if he feels jaded.
Just thoughts. Nothing more.

We don’t know all the facts behind this, and we probably never will, but there’s been some kind of weird energy with TG and McVay the past year or so.

It could be a purely financial decision, it could be some underlying health issue, or it could just be a personality conflict between him and the staff. Who knows. All I know is, I’m indifferent to the idea that he could be traded. To me he’s somewhere between a difference-maker and replaceable, with a lean towards replaceable.

.

gurley was a beast near the endzone. that's an extremely valuable asset in itself.

apart from horrible blocking by the oline, what let gurley down the most between the 20s was his indifferent form in the passing game. i could understand him not wanting to catch the ball when he would have been jacked up behind the line of scrimmage, those "drops" were positive yardage in reality as they would have been losses if he caught them. the ones which frustrated everyone were the drops when you could see open space in front of him. it's like his mind wasn't fully in the game. frustrating for all involved.

i'll still be devastated if he leaves the team though.

I'll believe it when a trade is officially announced. Not until then.

All players' names get thrown around and asked about this time of year. You can ask about anything... you'll never know unless you ask. That doesn't mean it will happen though.

Meanwhile... the Rams hired Gurley's old RB coach from GA to be their RB coach. I have a suspicion that Todd had a say in that hire.

The Rams also hired his former Strength & Conditioning Coach at Georgia in Justin Lovett....That being posted I still believe if a team wants Gurley, they will get him and the Rams will move on for better or worse.

Lol you’re gonna see why he’s important if they do trade him he was our best pass protector better than most lineman we had out there. This is a turning point for the Rams.

There are ways to scheme around that. Go five wide on obvious passing downs, have Henderson and/or Everett be a checkdown/outlet. And of course, Malcolm is a good pass protector himself, while Henderson could evolve into it. Moving Gurley makes sense - the guys on our team can be just as effective for a fraction of the cost.

His contract is the reason they would move him. The contract was a bad idea at the time and remains that way in my opinion. There are certain positions that dont make sense to invest huge dollars into. RB is one of them. History shows you dont need an elite back to win a SB.

Rams are in a tough spot cap wise and are going to lose good depth players if they dont tighten things up. The high salary players are always going to be the ones on the chopping block or be rumored to be moved.

If the Rams could move Gurley, use his money to sign Littleton and find help on the oline, I believe you have to explore that.

So let me back up some of my statements from yesterday. Is he great in the red zone? Yes!! I do not think we would pay for someone that is making all of that money to be a red zone guy
