Definitely can be top tier if we shore up those weaknesses in the secondary, DT, DE, LB, and add some quality depth.

Curious how Shula will run his D, primarily with his coverage responsibilities.
That is a lot of holes to fill especially if we are using our top pick on a Center. I think its vital we draft our starting CB or Edge at 19 (or lower if we trade back). Not only are those 2 positions vital to a defense, but they are also some of the highest paid positions on any team.

I highly doubt we draft at 19 and highly doubt it would be a center, DJ was creating a draft no trades etc and just plugging people on the back end.

That said Trice/Braswell/Chop are very appealing to me and are essential to help any young secondary members we draft. To build that cocoon of the pocket to allow AD to do his AD things and another legit DT to press that middle 3.

I'm also of the camp I want at least one top CB FA with experience to.

Those players could potentially be available in the 2nd round, based upon projections, they are all 2nd round prospects. They also interest me, but, I think Trice is not a great fit for what we need in an edge. I doubt he can cover much of anyone. Some would say Hoecht can't either (me me me).

True, we might have a SB starting OL, but our defense certainly wouldn't be. Doesn't make it a rule, but the 2 teams in the SB this year both had top 5 defenses (but also top 10 OL's).

PFF graded him 64.5, 2 sacks allowed, 6 penalties in 1113 snaps. I think that is slightly above average, which, on a OL isn't the worst thing if you have guys around you that aren't in the negative.
I would give Shelton a Brian Allen-type contract all day.

You can't just spring this on us! You have to let us down gently.

Seriously though, we went back-and-forth a few times; and you thought the Rams were going to go big on creating cap space to make major additions.
Yes. 100%.
I thought they would do the couple moves to get them to about 80 in cap space.
I still think they SHOULD.

Well, with the cap going crazy after today's announcement, maybe we'll keep Dotson!

Well, the NFL is doing its part, helping the Rams with a much-larger than expected cap increase.

Of course, every team gets that benefit; and it could mean some players that would have been available as free agents, may now be easier for their current teams to retain.

So who is right?

OTC has the Rams 45 mil under the 2024 cap.
Spotrac has them at 52 mil under.

Either way I'm

We can sign Shelton, Dotson, DRob, a CB, an Edge and maybe a backup QB.

This is where I disagree with a lot of the Raheem supporters is any coverage where you constantly have your OLB/DE out in coverage down the field is a loser concept and you need to rethink what you need to do to adjust your concepts/philosophies as a defensive play caller.

I know he's pretty good at the run, has a high amount of QB pressures since 2013 (4th) since 2013.

Could land a lot worse guys than him.

My guy I personally like with a trade down or two is Braswell.

I’m rewatching the Rams Ravens game. Fuller sucks in coverage. Johnson was awol. They have to do something about that backend coverage as well. Anything decent back there snd the Rams would have beat the Ravens by 14 points.

FA Prices will likely go up the same % as the cap increase to offset any real gains

Safety is a problem yeah. And one big key will be where do the Rams see Lake playing. If they see him moving into that pairing then they will need one safety for next to him. If not then they might need to go get a FA then draft the position. Unless they see Yeast "rising" to the job of course.

I figure they'll draft a safety in the end. But where is the question. I think Nubin is going to be a stud but the Rams don't seem to value safety so who knows if he's on their radar. I would guess he is in consideration though if they move down, but even then they probably value other positions more.

I'd like to see stronger safety play though. Seems like it will take a back seat to edge and corner, but sometimes certain players can change that. And personally I think Nubin is that kind of player but then again I'm just some dude in an easy chair. :laugh3:

I really hope we can get something reasonable done with Shelton and Dotson. Keeping the young line together is really going to help continuity next season. I'm hoping Dotson gets overlooked by other NFL teams and we can keep him around, I really think he's one of the key pieces to the Rams being successful next year.
Look out for a Raheem Morris poaching.

No doubt.. there some interesting late in the 4-7 round this year at safety and we have a player horde of picks.

Air Force Trey Taylor
Utah Sion Vaki
Oregon State Kitan Oladapo
Georgia Tykee Smith
Nebraska Omar Smith

Those guys are intriguing to me Tykee and Trey.

One you missed: Malik Mustapha, from Wake Forest.
Honestly unlike some, I don't act like a know it all draft analyst.

I've never seen anything about him tbh. I've seen his name that's about all.

This isn’t a big surprise. The Rams are not in rebuild mode. Many people think they are Super Bowl contenders for 2024. Consistency on the Offensive Line is likely to be important to McVay. Bringing in a new center means they’d be hoping that he can seamlessly learn the offense in one offseason.

Overall, I’ve been hearing that this draft is very shallow. It’s because of the CoVid year and also NIL money keeping kids in college.

Maybe it would be the year for Snead to try to move up with some later picks, instead of back.
