Rams tryout a bunch of wideouts, including Nick Toon

As the Rams prepare to host the Steelers, they’ve taken a look at a fairly long list of receivers.

Per a league source, St. Louis recently worked out seven free-agent receivers, led by former Saints receiver Nick Toon.

The Rams also kicked tires on Issac Blakeney, Kain Colter, DaVaris Daniels, Jordan Leslie, Tyler Rutenbeck, and Taylor Washington.

The Rams currently have six receivers on the roster, and none are injured. It’s possible one or more are currently residing in coach Jeff Fisher’s doghouse, and that the tryouts were aimed at getting their attention.

This is concerning me about Quick. There's something odd going on there it feels like. We should not be trying out wideouts right now if he's just "working his way back" from the rust.

Don't know how players such as Quick or Stacey got into the doghouse (or if they really were there) but it seems to be a very hard place to get out of.....

I'll reserve comment until we fans learn more as time passes, but based on what currently is available to base judgement on, I am pretty upset with how Fisher is treating Quick. This team is struggling on offence. If Fisher is holding out Quick - arguably our best receiver - for an arbitrary reason, he needs to be fired. Simple as that.

Doubt it's a doghouse thing because he worked really hard to come back from a pretty severe injury and earned praise from Fisher. I'm leaning toward he's just not ready to play physically.

Even if Quick isn't ready, why bring in a new wide receiver? Doubt any of those would come in and be better than what we already have on the active roster. Unless they are planning to cut someone.

These kind of reports are frustrating and bothersome. One day we will have an NFL quality group of receivers.

It's odd indeed...One week this is a very good football team...The next they get beat up by a very mediocre team...This week they're auditioning WRs...The secrecy thing gets very irritating sometimes...Don't remember hearing why Quick didn't
play in either game when supposedly healthy...Lends credence to the theory that maybe he isn't....I really don't understand at this point...I just understand that I didn't like the Rams chances this week and now I wonder what to think about the coming weeks as well..Feel like I've just met a Mason and don't know the secret handshake...

I don't know if it's Quick. We haven't really produced, it might be curtains for Givens for a change of pace.

I can't imagine there are too many guys better than what they have right now. It's a little weird.

Anytime a reporter asks about Quick the person being interviewed seems to start walking on egg shells and starts speaking from a script that seems like its been given to them to not say anything different. No one has deviated from the party line. Makes me think something mental with Quick who is known to be a very slow learner and Cignetti's system should be a breeze to pick up after what Schotty ran. Does he need things dumbed down for him? I DON'T KNOW. I HAVE NO CLUE. I have heard he is physically ready and then the party line clicks in.

I know our Team really needs his ass on the field ASAP. Is he afraid of getting hit on that shoulder? This High 2ND round pick is starting to worry me as we truly NEED his skills for Nick Foles to throw too.

I've noticed this too. If you go back and watch Cignetti's press conference, when Quick is brought up, he's speechless for like a whole 5 seconds. He has no idea what to say and starts acting weirdly. Says the regular script and then says "Those are questions you have to ask Coach Fisher" all weirdly, in response to basic questions about him physically. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but it was just odd, I feel like there's something off about this whole thing.

I love Quick, I hope he's okay for whatever reason. Maybe we'll get some insight on this a little later.

Disturbing.

Kind of tired of this double speak Bs or no speak at all BS.

He's ready or he's not, physically or mentally. Fucking answer the goddamn questions! Is it really that hard for this FO?

Jesus.

Though really, none of these guys can ever really run themselves open without great play fakes except maybe Studman. And if we don't have a ready in house WR, what does that say about the confidence of our current group?

Okay, vent over. I'm just pissed in general, still, with this teams leadership or lack thereof.

Are these guys really better than Givens though? He hasn't been bad, he's gotten open deep a few times. Not his fault Foles has no time. Put in Reynolds on the OL instead of cutting Givens. There's no need.

Well the way I see it. Givens is really a one trick pony. He uses his speed to burn past people and make mismatches against slower players in the defense, but with our o-line troubles we can't really get him into the mismatches that make him shine. So he's basically offering nothing to this team, he's basically taking up a spot to just sorta look pretty.

Nick Toon in particular gives me this line of thinking, Toon is a known for his great route running and ability to get open. I don't know about the others, but it comes across to me that they're looking to find guys who can run crisp routes and get open so Foles has more options to throw to short or intermediately before the O-line blows up while waiting for Quick to come back.

Maybe you're right. I guess we'll see what happens. They definitely could use a better route runner. Bailey needs to see a lot more snaps. He played a lot last game but Foles just was too inaccurate. If Foles does better this week, and Bailey gets more playing time, I think we'll be fine.
