I really did. Still confused.

That happens with me.
So I start off with this

So a little exercise for those that want to. If we trade AD away pay for it.
Then provide the two common sites to get the payroll info then ask them (read anybody who wants to do the exercise) how they did it. I apologize I thought English was your primary language :D

Aww they're not so bad...

Again, I'm still confused ... and it's only a couple sentences!

Your first sentence was:
"So a little exercise for those that want to. If we trade AD away pay for it."

Are you asking ... if the Rams trade Donald, How would (could) they pay for it (i.e., make it work under the cap)?

The rest of your post reads:
"How did you get it done? And sign the draft picks and add enough UDFA to fill out the 53 man roster and practice squad. I'm curious how you'd get it done."

Are you asking the same question ... How would (could) the Rams make it work under the cap?

If we trade AD away pay for it.

How did you get it done.

Asking if people were to trade AD away how did they pay for it. I'm seriously confused on how this isn't clear I'll just drop it because it's pretty straight forward to me. Ask somebody to do something then tell me how they did it.

OK. I thought the wording was unnecessarily confusing; and, therefore, not clear.

According to Over-the-Cap, if Donald was traded AFTER June 1st, the Rams would get $13.5M of 2023 cap relief and take on $12.5M of Dead-$. Nothing really to "pay for" or "get done" in 2023.

When I addressed this earlier today, I suggested that a trade would also take Donald OFF the Rams' 2024 Books (as it did with Ramsey). However, @PARAM corrected me in a subsequent post, explaining that there would be significant Dead-$ in 2024.

Yes any "cap relief" is only relief for a year we have to pay it eventually. People put far too much stock in post June stuff thinking it's great it just delays the inevitable.
So we take a $12.5M cap hit for trading him we now have a hair under $1M in cap space. You've now got to pay for $9.8M in draft picks baring any of these miraculous drafts that have us trading down and trading players for yet more picks. Then you have to pay for the practice squad which is lets say $2M since it varies on what we pay them. So where on the roster do you trim another $11M and that's not including having money during the season to pay more players when some get hurt hopefully not as many as last year but for this lets say 8 people that's a vet minimum of $870k for another $7 million we're up to clearing $18 million in cap space.

Oh and remember McSnead keep talking about setting us up for 2024 so you have to wonder if restructures are off the table with them.

I don't think that part is correct.

Donald has a $26M cap hit for 2023. If he is traded post-June 1 (assuming Over-the-Cap is right), the Rams have $12.5 Dead-$/cap-hit but $13.5M of cap relief/savings (those two numbers total the $26M).

Now, Ramsey's trade did not result in any 2024 Dead-$ because (I think), he had no more guaranteed-$ on his contract.

I believe Donald's pro-rated bonus (already paid and accordingly, guaranteed) results in significant Dead-$ in 2024.

This # stuff is confusing man. And I was a tax attorney!

$12.5M hit and per this we have $13.5 which is actually low because that's only top 51. An accounting trick right now when after training camp we not only have to account for 53 players but the PS as well.

I worked with contracts in business with restaurants and casinos for quite a few years. It gets fun good thing I've always had a knack for math.

So can I call the fucking Steelers now? :laugh2:

I think AD will be true to his word. He said last year he would retire a Ram and said he would give it 2 more (back then) years before retirement. I think the Ram FO asked him to wait until at least after 2023 because of their cap issue with him if he retired last year. I think the only way AD plays beyond this year will be if he sees more Super Bowls ahead for the Rams. In AD's eyes he got his ring he has nothing else to accomplish as his next stop will be Canton.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kronke wants to keep AD as part of the FO as a PR ambassador. The bottom line is that the only place AD is going after LA is Canton.

At this point, I don't know.

When the Rams traded Ramsey for a mid-#3 and a TE with one more career NFL reception than me, they got $5.6M of 2023 cap savings and took-on $19.6M of Dead-$.

According to Over-the-Cap, if Donald was traded AFTER June 1st, the Rams would get $13.5M of 2023 cap relief and take on $12.5M of Dead-$.

I'm guessing
that would also take Donald OFF the Rams' 2024 Books (as it did with Ramsey); and Donald carries a $34M cap hit to the Rams in 2024.

If the Rams can't compete, with Aaron Donald, in 2023 ... and I don't see them being good (Hope I Am Wrong) ... AND if they think Donald is just a year or two from retirement, wouldn't a post-June-trade make sense?

Like I said ... at this point ... I have no fucking idea.

Seems like the Rams FO has already identified Donald, along with Stafford and Kupp, as three players they intend to keep.

It was different with Ramsey and even with Goff. We knew they weren't committed to them.

if they think Donald is just a year or two from retirement

I don't find the retirement thing to be a factor. Aaron has already committed to playing in 2023. And if he ends up playing in 2024, the front office would rather it be with the Rams than anywhere else.

I'm a wondering if he is a post-up guy - or whether he will shoot from downtown??
Questions, questions.... :D
He would be on the floor to set picks. Nothing else.

By the third quarter, opponents won’t have five healthy players.

On topic,
AD wont retire (yet) because he'd have to pay back a chunk of signing bonus.
AD wont be traded because the Rams would take a 15 mill net cap hit (60 mill dead cap total)
