I don't think this rules out Harkey necessarily. I do think this was relevant to Rogers being cut however.

Trying to see how this is an upgrade over Harkey. Both these guys aren't really receiving threats. The only tangible difference is Harkey has the versatility to play TE or FB and is a locker room leader. Carrier is just familiar with McVay's system.

Obviously this move means almost nothing in the grand scheme but with the loss of Hemingway, I was sure we were going to retain Harkey. Disappointing that the coaches don't think he fits.

I just do not think our TE performance this TC & pre season is NFL level yet. I would tend to think that McVay wants much more than he has seen as a whole from this unit... maybe this new ex Redskin can assist him with getting McVay's point across with Higbee & Everett.

They haven't cut Harkey yet that I know of. But that said, I never saw him as a fit for this offense. He's clearly not the type of guy McVay prefers, and no matter what us fans think the coaches prioritize fit.

Either that or you have two run blockers with Harkey at FB and Carrier as an in-line blocking TE. Seems slim, but Harkey isn't gone yet, of course, it may only be a matter of minutes. Still, while neither of them are noted for being receiving threats, they both can catch. jmo.

Carrier was a WR first and ran a 4.51 on his pro day. He looks to be a much better target than Harkey. One article said he can line up in the backfield. I haven't seen him block but, Harkey hasn't been good in preseason. He whiffed early on a run play against the Packers. Rams did a good job finding TE to fill in for Hemingway just before the season that knows the system. He seems like a faster Hemingway.

Agreed. At the top of the roster at the position you have a second year TE who has been solid at best under this new regime. He's flashed but it hasn't really shown to the extent you want on the field. And a rookie who looks great thus far but is still a rookie at a position that is very hard on them historically.

After that, meh. I wasn't so wowed by Hemingway personally. But he got hurt and it made the room even weaker. Harkey is just a non-fit, he might make the team but he's not going to factor in heavily in this offense unless the wheels fall off and the other guys get hurt. So he's a bubble guy, a JAG if you will in this offense.

Carrier isn't any sort of answer but he knows the offense, knows what McVay expects, and can offer good depth in stepping in and executing the offense. So the move makes a lot of sense and yeah I do think these guys as a group need to step it up.

And lastly I am sure someone will get all offended that I'm not talking up Higs or Everett here. I like both of them very much, but we need production from them from this point forward. Get out on the field and prove it, it's go time, that's where I'm at.

Higs hasn't wowed me yet, reminds me of the whole Spruce hype of a few fan favorites. I hope I am wrong, but Higs hasn't shown nothing more than average. Everett is a rookie he gets a pass, but I think he will be the #1 over Higs after this season.

The TE blocking has to get better.

I hear you Merlin. We really haven't seen much in the play calling to highlight the TEs this preseason. The short outs mostly. Hopefully, we see more routes like the seam route Higbee ran two weeks ago and they make the plays. McVay has not shown his hand yet, as far as the offense goes and how he is counting on the TE early in the year.

I'm guessing McVay brought him in to be a blocker.

We see it similarly yeah. The nice thing about Higbee though is there is still time for him to put it together. In this offense there is room for the TE duo, in fact it's preferred I am sure by McVay that he have two guys who provide the mismatch.

Higs does give us a mismatch on LBs. I just want to see him start hauling that ball in even when the catches are contested. If he can start doing that, we might have something at the position with him and Gerald.

For a seventh round pick, this is a good trade.

Getting a guy who is experienced in McVays O to compliment and work with the young guys for a 7th....good trade IMHO.
Certainly more athletic than Harkey. Woukd seem to fit that H-back roll better than Harkey because of his athleticism.
Everett
Higbee
Carrier
Mundt
Those the are TEs.
Two guys who are receivers first and two guys who are blockers first....Im assuming that about Mundt.
But all can improve on being the total package at TE.
I wanted Harkey because, more often than not, he was a solid blocker. But, he didn't seem to fit McVays system all that well.
Got a McVay guy for a 7th. No negative there.
