Good call. Whenever he is on the field and they move him around, it feels like a cat getting ready to pounce, but you don't know where. Even the announcers are quick to point out where he is on almost every play and there is nothing more glorious than hearing "Tavon Austin in motion" and you know the D is freaking out. He disrupts the defensive play calls just by being on the field. What a cool personality too. He is wonderful to the fans and appreciates the opportunity10 all purpose TD's last year on a team with no other legit weapons besides Gurley and pedestrian QB-play.
I'm cool with this. I still don't think he'll ever be a true dynamic threat as an outside WR but he's a playmaker who scores TD's.
There aren't many teams if any, who have an option like Tavon integrated into the running game either.
52 totes for 434 yds(8.3 avg) and 4 TD's last season is production.
Talking heads and dumb fans from other teams like to look at his receiving numbers alone and just don't get it.
He's improved in every facet each year too. He's an underrated blocker. Seriously, no blue font. He understands angles and is willing.
It is a BFC though. Lots of cheddar.
My bottom line is the Rams need to identify and hold onto their offensive playmakers because there aren't many on the roster.
They have completely avoided getting the ball to him in preseason. This tells me Boras has new wrinkles formh we will see come Monday night..
it seems like the rams think tavon is gonna break out and explode this season.
.
I have noticed that too. And with that new contract, they have to get him involved more than we have seen thus far. They have completely avoided getting the ball to him in preseason. This tells me Boras has new wrinkles formh we will see come Monday night.
I hope so anyway.
The vision of that power running game working with an explosive play maker on the field at the same time....good stuff.
The jet sweep is fine and all that and I think that will still be there.I have noticed that too. And with that new contract, they have to get him involved more than we have seen thus far.
He's not a slot receiverOkay, I'd expected as much..
I'd tell him now to get in the slot, and do what Cooper & Spruce do....
oh yeah? Well he's been outside this whole preseason...and it's strange, but for some reason, he can't even catch a pass...He's not a slot receiver
They made no effort to get him the balloh yeah? Well he's been outside this whole preseason...and it's strange, but for some reason, he can't even catch a pass...
He better learn how to play the slot then...because, he's wasting his talent out there on the numbers...
You gotta define effort...is that, looking his way and if not open, going another? Is it throwing it and having it batted down? Is it throwing it and having it dropped? If either of the last two define effort, he's had 2 opportunities...one was dropped, the other batted down...it's preseason, I don't see any major weapons being targeted more than twice a game...rookies yeah, vets, no...I still don't see any major separation. They made no effort to get him the ball
Agreed Jerry. He was burning Peterson all day long. If only he was like 2 inches taller though.I wasn't so sure about this move back when it was announced. I'm feeling a bit better about it now. Tavon is looking a lot better this year as a traditional WR. Take the Cardinals game as an example. His stats are 2 catches for 14 yards. Those aren't good numbers. But he was shadowed by Patrick Peterson all game long and actually was in position for a 80-100 yard receiving day. Here's how:

First three passes were inaccurately thrown. The last pass was knocked out of his hands by the ground. Three of the four plays came against Patrick Peterson. The final picture was a 50 yard reception if he comes down with it. The second picture is the one that pains me the most. Here's why:

If that ball is put out in front of Austin, he might house it. All he needs is a block from Britt on Patrick Peterson to leave him in the open-field with only the single-high safety to beat.
Even if he does get tackled, I think it's still a 20-30 yard gain.
And I don't want this to be construed as an attack Keenum post. I just want to point out that I think Austin is about to take the next step.
