We can pick up his 5th year option before the 2026 season. It will cost around $22 mil. Think he's worth that?
If he keeps improving the way he has been, maybe he is worth it. What if we already have our CB1 on the roster?

I want to see if we have a #2 in McCreary. I think he plays a lot against Seattle if he's got the playbook down, and I've seen enough of Durant (was responsible for the garbage time Kittle touchdown, since he was in zone coverage, and he jumped on the underneath route, leaving Kittle wide open).
But yes, if Forbes continues his path, we may already have our number one cornerback. He's been physical, goes for the ball, has limited damage from the top receivers, and has been much improved over his Washington days.
As you say, the decision to pick-up the 5th year option would need to be made prior to the start of 2026 but it would be for the 2027 season, as Forbes' 4th year will be 2026 when his cap hit is under $3M.
$22M for 2027 ... that seems high.
McCreary is mostly a slot CB. He hasn't fared well in his career to date on the outside, so hoping for a #2 is very optimistic.

Not surprising that Whittington is losing snaps to 13 personnel dominance. Smith taking on the Tutu roll but his skill set is slightly different.

We'll see. I still would like to see him on Smith-Njigba, since the guy takes most of the slot snaps.

To be fair, Whittington was also playing hurt. He's probably the best blocker of our receivers and can play a quasi-HB role. He'll get more snaps in Seattle.
Well, Whittington was dealing with an injury throughout the week ... limited practice snaps.
Guessing that is the primary reason for so few snaps; and, if healthy, would have had many snaps that went to Smith and/or Mumpfield.

I remember nearly everyone on the board bashing him....what a difference a couple of pics makes.
Joking aside, he is playing much better the last few weeks. Seems to have settled into his role and is playing much more soundly. Also, playing more physically and tackling better.
