3) A pair of John Wolford touchdown passes withstanding, the defense had a good night overall. However, some of the offense's miscues were a result of technical difficulties. Regarding the first team offense specifically, Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters after the scrimmage that the coaches were dealing with headset issues that made things "chaotic." Goff also pointed to getting used to rotating play calls between McVay and offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell. "But I thought they handled it really well, as well as they can," Goff said. "And it's good to get these kinks worked out now and not September 13."
So Coach McVay let O'Connell call plays during the scrimmage it seems. But if they're "getting used to" rotating play calls between the two does that mean O'Connell will be calling some plays during the season?

The second string Oline unit is a bit of a surprise. One thing may be telling and I discussed it on another thread. Reports last year were that Evans was impressing coaches. Is he now the heir to OLT instead of Noteboom? Is Joe now viewed mainly as a guard?

kolone as the second string center is a bit of a surprise to me. Is he the backup Center or does that job to go Corbett, with Edwards taking Corbett's guard spot?

Demby as second string right tackle, though that may have something to do with Brewer being out. I think Brewer would be in that ORT spot on the second unit. If Rob went down I think Evans is first Tackle up.

Darrell Henderson appears to be injury-prone

Jerry beat me to it. But it's odd that he had two injuries last year and one now after having missed only one college game. Hopefully this does not continue or the RB unit suddenly would look less stable, especially if you consider Brown's yearly trip to the injured list.

I'm no where near as concerned with ILB as I am with the OL. Howard and Kaiser could be a decent duo at ILB. Reeder, Young, and the rookie Johnson behind them. Plus I think we'll be playing a lot of 5 defensive back looks with 2-3 safeties and Rapp coming down into the box. So dont think its a huge concern, but I get what you're saying about WR depth. It's good to have 4 quality bodies in case of injury. It's just we're not going to resign Reynolds with the Kupp and Ramsey contracts looming...and he's a free agent after the season. So if we did move him, and god forbid one of our top 3 WRs went down, we still have Higbee and Everett, Hopkins that can pick up the slack. I just dont like the idea of Reynolds taking snaps away from Jefferson when we could possibly get a draft pick for him. Remember no 1st rounder again next year.

I recall Morrison saying expect more 2-4-5 sets with Donald and Brockers then two pass rushing OLBs on each end two ilbs. I'm guessing the ilbs would be Howard and Kiser. I wonder if Ebukam or Floyd's move inside on that formation. I'm anxious to watch the ILBs. on the scrimmage report MJD said Travin Young looked pretty good.

Wolford had a strong night and showed why O'Connell is so confident

Excited to hear Jefferson stand out, but Wolford might be the biggest “Yes!” for me. We need a #2 that can keep a playoff stretch going.

But, yeah... Jefferson going to be BOSS. Excited to hear he has started fast.

This whole thread has been a fun read to catch-up on! (y)

Jared Goff and Rams take a shine to new SoFi Stadium, a ‘crown jewel’

Two years ago, Jared Goff and his Rams teammates toured the dusty Inglewood construction site of what was then an unnamed stadium. The young quarterback marked the occasion by passing a ball to a worker standing in what would become the lower bowl seats.

On Saturday, Goff tossed passes to receivers in $5-billion SoFi Stadium for the first time as the Rams conducted a practice in preparation for their Sept. 13 opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

“It was really amazing,” Goff said. “It’s truly unbelievable and truly one of the crown jewels in sports right now.”

After arriving at the stadium by bus, players and coaches walked onto the field, some shooting photos and videos on their phones.

“This is pretty awesome,” linebacker Samson Ebukam said after the practice.

Said coach Sean McVay: “Never seen anything like it.”

Unfortunately for fans, they probably won’t get a chance to experience the stadium in person anytime soon.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the NFL to cancel preseason games. Regular-season games will be played in stadiums with few or no fans. The Rams have not yet announced what their policy will be for the “Sunday Night Football” opener against the Cowboys.

But the conditions Saturday portended what is expected to be the norm.

With more than 70,000 empty seats, crowd noise was piped in. The huge, double-sided Oculus video board showed action and replays that were viewed exclusively by players and coaches on the field and masked reporters seated at a social distance in the press box.

“There’s nothing like real crowd noise,” McVay said, “In some instances, that fake crowd noise is nothing but irritating.”

McVay also was frustrated by headset malfunctions experienced by the coaching staff “that made it very chaotic,” he said.

But McVay and Goff said the problems would be worked out in the coming weeks — the Rams will practice again at the stadium on Saturday — and Goff sounded as if he could get used to a stadium that is open air in the upper levels behind the end zone.

“As a quarterback, anytime it’s indoors you love it,” he said. “And it’s a little bit of both — there’s that little breeze you can feel at times. But it is fairly indoors for the most part. The ball jumps here.”

The offense wore new bone-colored uniforms and the defense donned royal blue uniforms for the two-hour workout that mainly featured situational sequences. Star defensive tackle Aaron Donald was a disruptor throughout. No tackling was allowed, except during live periods for younger players when starters and other key contributors were safely ensconced on the sidelines.

McVay’s plan to replace running back Todd Gurley began to come into focus. Veteran Malcolm Brown started and got most of the first-team snaps.

Rookie Cam Akers also got some first-team work but lost a fumble when Donald stripped the ball. Darrell Henderson got a few plays early but was sidelined thereafter because of an unspecified “soft tissue” injury, McVay said.

Backup quarterback John Wolford had positive results against the first-team defense and against reserves.

On his first series against the No. 1 defense, Wolford broke off a 37-yard run, completed a third down pass with star cornerback Jalen Ramsey in coverage and tossed a short touchdown pass to wide receiver Nsimba Webster.

Wolford also connected with rookie receiver Van Jefferson for a touchdown pass in the rear corner of the end zone in a series against reserves.

“He’s got some Doug Flutie-type stuff in him,” McVay said of Wolford’s ability to break free and create plays.

Etc.

The placekicking competition heated up with Lirim Hajrullahu, Austin MacGinnis and Sam Sloman all getting consecutive opportunities from the same distances. Hajrullahu converted all of his attempts, from 38, 38, 50, 43 and 48 yards. MacGinnis made kicks from 38, 50 and 48 yards. Sloman made kicks from 38, 43 and 48 yards. ... Rookie safeties Terrell Burgess and Jordan Fuller continued to impress. Rookie edge rusher Terrell Lewis also made a few plays. ... Undrafted quarterbacks Bryce Perkins and Josh Love each took snaps during a live-tackling portion of the workout.

Kinda weird though seeing him in #12

Dude ??? LOOK at that photo of Jefferson you showed earlier.

ALL I SEE is SUPER BOWL victory over NE PAYS in the right corner thrown by GOFF or was it the ONE Left Center of the End Zone ??

Make a play Cook !!! Jefferson is Cheaper(4 years), stronger,Bigger, has better Hands,no head injury Issues,& runs better routes. Plus add a higher upside moving forward.

Not taken away anything from Brandon Cooks. I expect him to have a 1,000 yard season.

CGI - you did read this ?? Plus know about the preseason reports.

Not to be a Jack Donkey, but curious on your take & confidence in Wolford now ??

Last preseason in my eyes was better than that South Florida QB last season. They both had similar reps in games & Wolddord came out on top. He won a game or 2 ??

Bottles to me has ever proved much as a starting QB. Like Tim Tebow against Denver & a playoff run. Daniels was a Rams OC & let go by Spags. Freaking unbelievable his run in NE.
Wonder about Cam over there ??

I know I get side track but what the Heck. My buddy is a Bears fan. Think about the Highest Paid QB in the NFL & where Da” Bears would be ? Now look at where Nick Foles is at. Who would you rather have ? I think he cost Da Bears more than if they had Cam Newton ?

I always go back to McVays first season with Goff. Nick Foles wins the Super Bowl & Case Keenan goes to The NFC championship. I know that win against NO Orleans cost Drew Brees another Super Bowl.

Don’t want to blow up a PURE Rams thread. Maybe move to the backup QB thread ??

Just interesting talking NFL QB’s ALL AROUND & it’s pretty awesome.

Just going back to how F”d up Jeff Fisher was. I always thought he should do a Coke commercial with the way his noise would get allergy’s during the winter & not the spring.

I’m a Jared Goff fan, & a huge Fan of SoFI. I walked down Century Blvd with a Sea bag just 2 months ago. What an awesome girlfriend I have. She found me. Had a 24 oz can of Arrogant Bastard. Almost wanted to go take a hit of the Best Smelling Bud from a Brother in leather pants & a couple waiting for ??? - COVID & a list girlfriend trying to find a Dumbass thinking he was in the field of dreams.

Should be a Great season. Just look at LMAO LA Chargers. Then think about Andrew Luck ?? Now think about Peyton Manning ??? You know where I’m going ?? Freaking then I look back at Vick trade ?? Ela Manning ???
Plus Mcvay talking about Doug Flutie.

The last game of Drew Brees with The Chargers. Flutie kicks a extra point by himself ??? This just going off my head (crazy) Then Drew Brees before that of after that actually got some playing time ??? Just remembering he should not have been in the game & he does a one yard TD run ?? Seperates his shoulder like on the last play of the game ?? Meaningless.

Going back to The Colts, but knowing Rivers,Fluties & Drew Brees all played together on the same Chargers team.

Phillip Rivers rookie season!! Now Rivers in INDY ?? From NC State ??
Then Drew from Purdue.

Vick & Eli. Or Bree’s & Rivers ???

I am unsure about the blue on blue look. Although it is similar to the Battlehawks in in their “all blue” variant... and I did like that. (y)

He missed one game in his entire college career. Let's pump the brakes.
Agreed but this is not the time of the year for fans to pump the brakes on anything. Fans are already trading starters, guys missing practice are injury prone, rookies are HOF bound etc. Lol.

Hajrullahu kicked the best made of of his kicks including one from 50 MacGinnis missed from 43 but made the rest & Sloman missed 3 of his kicks....Starting to think Hajrullahu is going to be the best option, but there will be other opportunities

I wouldn't read into anything with it. The first team are getting reps with the first team. What good does it do the guys down the line if Boom takes all the first team LG reps and the second team LT reps etc etc. Plus this is practice easing them in and getting in game shape. They're not there yet they aren't going to take every snap. Let things play out but again I think this is rotational to get depth snaps.

Didn't read it all but I'm impressed after reading some of this and skimming the rest. There were a few times you actually only used one question mark. That's some impressive growth! Proud of you!!!! (multiples used for comedic affect)
