Why would another team give up a 1st rounder to pay Williams a bigger salary, when they can draft a rookie CB on a 4-yr cheap deal?
If they were drafting late round one they might feel like that pick value is close to what ours is at 52. So yeah it's a first round pick but getting a guy you know can play at this level and bring ball skills is extremely valuable.

Most corners you draft don't end up being Pro Bowl players. Williams might be that level of player. He's a mature guy, no drama too. You give up the pick but you get certainty.

Doubt it. Would really piss me off if some team only offers an $8M per year deal though. Browns might do it.

If the Browns or any other team offers Darious Williams a contract that the Rams can't match, the Rams get a first round pick this April and they will have no room for error to make the pick count.

This was the only card the Rams had to play.

I don't want to lose D.Williams but if getting a first round pick for losing him is what ends up happening, at least they got top shelf insurance to offset his loss.

Yes and let's say he has another good year. He'll probably sign somewhere for $11M a season. That will only get us a fourth in compensation.

It may be best to get what we can this year compared to a one and done deal through the tender.

We could always franchise tag him for 2022, so not necessarily a one an done this year. jmo.

If he has another year like the last one he'll make a whole lot more than $11M per. I don't think we have to sweat comp with Williams if they can't tag/trade him they'll still get a round 3.

DWill is the #1 priority to resign. If they don't get a long term deal down he must be a 1st round tender which is still massively too low. If I was any team that needs a DB in the first round I would give up a first in a heartbeat in the back half 15 onward.

Rams please do not do a 2nd round tender that is an instant for any team in the league.
Would you really?

I am excited about Williams as everyone else. But, he has had only one season as a starter.

A first rounder? I don’t know...

He turns 28 today, BTW. Happy Birthday, Darious!
The other thing about that is any team willing to sign him, would likely be in the same cap situation as us - so it wouldn't be to an outrageous deal. Which means we would be able to match it.
Hell yeah, I’d give a pick round 1st to pair him with another solid corner.

Has an RFA on a 1st round tender ever actually switched teams? I cant recall it happening. As it stands right now, he signs 1 year deal for 4.7 mill, and next year gets Franchise tag for 17 mill. Essentially a 2 year 22 mill deal. If a team wants to come in and sign him to a low ball offer sheet, say a 3 year 24 mill deal, what do you do? Keep the player on a decent contract or grab the 1st round pick?

Excellent question. If we felt good about what's behind him, I'd take the 1st RD pick, but I'm not so sure we have anything that makes is feel comfortable behind him.

For me it's the question of where that pick is in round 1. And from there which corners will be on the board. Or by extension do you feel you can address the hole in your roster in a later round.

For the Rams it's probably take the pick. Because they are unlikely to be able to match any offer he gets. Any team signing him would be giving up a pick so they're hot and heavy to sign him to a nice deal not something that would be palatable to Demoff.

Rams need to keep Williams. Whatever it takes. No, he’s not a No. 1 cb, lacks size and physicality for that. But opposite Ramsay he’s awesome. Very rare level of ballhawking anticipation and result— right up there with the best ever.

Well, they've kept him, at least for this year.
I'm hoping Jacksonville isnt familiar with the rules, (god knows they're idiots about running a franchise). They go ahead and sign him to an offer sheet thinking they can give back the Ramsey pick....
