Rams RB Blake Corum explains what he's doing differently in Year 2

Tyler Greenawalt
Rams Wire

Los Angeles Rams second-year running back Blake Corum didn't have the greatest rookie season. The third-round pick out of Michigan rushed only 58 times for 207 yards in 17 games before he fractured his arm in Week 18 to miss the entire postseason.
Now in Year 2, Corum remains the main backup to Kyren Williams but might have some pressure with rookie Jarquez Hunter sitting behind him. Corum, though, has noticed a clear difference between this season and this past season — specifically with his approach to the game.
"Year 1, I was trying to be as perfect in everything that I did. I didn’t want to make any mistakes. And that slowed me down a bit in terms of my capabilities," he said. "Now I’m just out there letting it loose. I’m playing at a lower weight, I feel faster, I feel more agile, I feel great. Between that and the game slowing down, that’s the biggest difference."
That combination — not being a perfectionist and slimming down — will be crucial for his development in 2025. The Rams don't need him to be a bellcow, but they'd likely want him to be a solid role player on the offense so Williams doesn't always need to carry the full load.
Corum and Hunter also play the position differently from each other and Williams. That trio of skillsets could open up the playbook a bit more for Sean McVay in 2025 and give Matthew Stafford more weapons to work with as the Rams look to make another playoff push.

Here's hoping Corum and the Rookie Can still have opposing defenses worried about our run game,
While Kyren gets his breather. That would be a huge plus.

This is why we shouldn't resign Kyren. People are already calling Corum a bust because he only got a few dozen carries last season.
McVay doesn't know how to split carries between backs unless one of them gets injured.
I bet the new rookie won't even see the field this season.

This I do not agree with. Normally, I would with rookie RBs as Sean is hyper concerned of his inexperienced RBs getting his QBs killed.

However, Hunter appears to have impressed Sean as an unusually football-savvy back who is soaking up the right things at an accelerated level. McVay will still make sure Jarquez can pass block first & foremost, but I can see him getting some tentative chances that will increase if he graphically proves he can keep Matthew alive & kicking.

The competition is good. Rams now have solid RB depth. You never know when the I word will hit the room.

Corum looked great in his limited snaps, and much more explosive than KW. Hopefully we see a good RB split this year, despite just paying Kyren. Keep everyone fresh, yet involved. It isn't easy to come in cold and never get into a rhythm.

With Kyren's pass blocking I could see him emerge more as the go yo guy in terms of RB1 when in a 3rd down or any passing situation. Let the young guys take the hits between the tackles on 1st & 2nd down more often. Obviously, Williams will as well, but start to shift him more to those critical passing down situations.

I don't know...Kyren's pretty young himself and they just paid him. I think he'll take the lions share of the workload with Corum and Hunter occasionally sprinkled in.

The latter two will get significant snaps if injury strikes KW.
