Wade has three good-looking first year ILB'ers with Reeder, Travon Howard & Dakota Allen. Fox was the only DL'er who was solid & got pressure. All the Rams Safeties look strong & solid.

5th corner Hatfield who started the first half was awful. The 6th outside corner Darious Williams fared much better. I liked what I saw. Nice to see corner Kevin Peterson back in action after tearing his ACL last year. Peterson appears like he is #7th outside corner.

Wade loves his 2-4-5 defense.

The offense was not good.....positives .... LT/LG David Edwards! Main reserve center Aaron Neary played well into the 4th quarter ...making the OL calls seemed to keep things together with mostly rookies in the lineup. Right side OL'er Bobby Evans was solid playing RT/RG. Rookie WR's Bachman & Webster made some good plays!

Spot on tonight. Peterson has to move ahead of Hatfield again. He had a nice pick ?? Seems to always find the ball. My 2 UDFA OK St. guys are still competing. The Rams had those guys as future players if the 2019 draft goes another way.

CB - Long is so raw right now.
Rapp is a steal & going to be so good.
Christian continues to be solid & Scott is
a coaches dream. He is what recruiting services call an athlete. He will be a playmaker & a weapon because of his talents ??
Who would have thought The Rams get Eric Weddle on the cheap & to boot Clay Mathews.
With players like that the depth becomes so much stronger & there is the core & pillars that Spags always talked about.

The cool thing about tonight was the Offensive Line was put on a Island to see if they would sink or swim ?? Will see what kind of growth comes from it.

1. In Demby's defense, he was playing everywhere so there is no way he can get in sync. He played both OG's, center, and LT. He's going to make the team simply because of that. He was fine at OG. Also, he's never played center in his life until this year. He's an OG who can be an emergency center if needed.

2. Rapp is the real deal. Just sit him the rest of preseason, he's already in reg season form.

3. Edwards displayed how raw he is, with poor footwork.

4. Long made a rookie mistake but his play improved as the game went on.

5. Brandon Allen sucks, enough said.

6. John Wolford will be the #3 QB probably on the PS in Sept.

7. SJD still can't get penetration or get off a block. Gaines outplayed him but he's a work in progress.

8. JFM looked regressed. He should have played better.

9. Evans is an OG at this level and it shows. I think he will be fine inside. But at this point, Demby is ahead of him at OG.

10. Webster and Bachman are clearly better WR's than Jojo. Webster can return punts as well. Webster should make the team with Bachman on the PS.

11. Carraway played fast and well. Hager outplayed Kiser IMO. Both Kiser and Hager will make the team and will be interchangeable for the most part. Howard outplayed Young but both are bubble guys, with Carraway flashing at OLB.

12. I knew the depth at CB was a problem and it showed big time. Deayon and Hatfield are scrubs, with Peterson on the bubble. Kevin played ok in 2017 before his injury, so I'm going to give him a pass on this game. Troy Hill didn't play but he's a marginal player. Roby-Coleman makes too many stupid mistakes.

13. Natrez Patrick earned himself more reps. He's strictly an early down ILB type with poor speed, but good size and length for the position. If he can show more in the run stuffing dept he can make this team.

14. Kolone is earning himself a PS spot. He's not a standout but he's not bad either, capable of playing OG and center.

15. The Ram booth announcers were totally annoying. They kept showing how little they knew the team. Most people posting on this board know more about the Rams. My father was right. If you don't know what you're talking about, keep your mouth shut or you just look stupid.

Wasn't able to catch the game, other than not really doing much, anything note worthy?

I'm not really worried about preseason, especially game 1 of it, just interested if anyone stood out, good or bad. How was the BOAT? His stats didn't seem good.

The WR ?? He played well & had a few PI against that should have been called

Oh yeah let me add, Mannion looked his usual self, i.e. what's he doing in the NFL? Bortles looked very good. He's a tremendous upgrade.

There was a replay Mcvay challenged and it makes this replay thing on PI very questionable ??? Will see what the consistency is, but from tonight’s challenge it is going to have to be very blatant .

i’ll be watching this game later tonight on NFL Network when the family sleeps and i can mutter expletives without repercussions.
Yeah, NFL Network substituted “Mic’d Up for the Rams game in Southern Oregon. I guess it’s a blackout!?? Lol.

(Lineman) Demby ?? Is he the best backup lineman ??
I would give him a break , but offside again & now then holding thing as a tackle ?? Nearing is an undersized guard but can play LG well for his size and a solid backup center. The 4 game suspension is Demby’s out. Plus the youth across the line. Flashes of the Super Bowl tonight. It starts up.
The youth & depth got some serious reps of growth. The dust will clear. I still have to see the switch turn on with Demby. Edwards & Evens both got exposed for some good film work. Who knows ?? I have faith in Kromer &
think he is one of the best !! In Kromer I trust.
I do know that those penalties will not continue. Demby is on thin ice.Noteboom was not great as a rookie in training camp. Demby still has not learned. I say it till I’m blue in the face.

(CB’s.) Long - raw . If you liked his growth today ? Don’t understand you faith a Cb & DB with the depth ?? Totally disagree & yes Peterson showed up again to move ahead of Hatfield.
As you talk about Hill in such negative way. I believe he has grown a lot as a Ram & is what McVays vision is as a coach. He was given a 2 year contract from a reason. Robby-Coleman is a baller.Night & day vs. Joyner play inside over the years before Mcvay.

(WR). Jojo missed the Bortles pass. It was a little hard & close ?? He has to make that catch though. It was set up for a big gain.
I said from training camp Webster has the upside vs Jojo. Thomas could be the guy though if it becomes a numbers game. As Les Snead says. There is only 1 ball.

(Kelly) RB ?? Special teams ace Malcom Brown & Henderson a 3rd down back or even an every down back ?? What’s up Kelly.
He doesn’t do much for as a RB . Is he going to be a good special teams guy ???

The announcers stunk for sure. Dude got hit in the head by the ball & they wanted to show & talk about that when The Rams finally had the ball for another 3&out . Never could get in a good flow of even watching the offense much.

You make a lot of real good points.

I know it's meaningless and preseason, but losing to the Raiders angers me for some reason.

By all reports, other that Matt Millen, the Rams 1s had pretty good days against the raiders 1s. Gruden had to do what he could to help his team gain some confidence, where as McVay and the Rams players dont lack confidence. I know Gruden sat many of his starters also, but he did keep some guys in that they are counting on to either start or make big contributions this season.

If theres one thing ive learned about reading this thread its that we have too many Allen's. No idea which one you guys were talking about.

The positive reports on an Allen are not about QB, Brandon Allen.

Sean Manion as a Viking against the Saints today 7/13 for 102 yards and 1 TD. Led all QBs in the game for yards.

Bortles was 3/8 50 yards 0 TD.

Hmmm...

Context bro, numbers only mean so much. Watch the actual footage, Mannion was awful. I watched it, he set up his wideouts to get crushed and he had no pocket awareness. He was facing easier depth stringers. Trust me, we upgraded!

I think what really showed me Mannion hasn't learned a damn thing all these years is a very simple incompletion. A simple short pass and Mannion gunned it and it was incomplete. He's been doing that for years now and simply doesn't get it. I watched as much of the game as I could stomach. Mannion stunk. I hope he makes their team because if he's the best of the rest the Vikes are on very thin ice.

If you watched the game then you’ll see how he faced pressure on every throw he had guys in his face and on the edge on his touchdown pass he got leveled but still had enough on the throw for it to get there. You don’t have to bash one guy to make someone else look good. And by all accounts Bortles was actually awful today poor footwork long delivery sounds a lot like Mannion right

But one thing to point out is how much these guys were shuffled around during this game. I think it's great learning experience for all of them.

This has to be a Kromer/Mcvay strategy.

I know I at least saw rookies Evans and Edwards flip at tackle positions from one series to another.

That's exactly what it was, getting the depth guys good looks at different spots. They already know some of the fits that don't work, but putting them out there after all the crosstraining they've been getting in camp was good I'm sure. This game wasn't about trying to win it or dazzle everyone with tons of points, it was obviously about giving the bottom feeders plenty of looks so they could make good roster decisions and they definitely accomplished that.

Will probably watch it again, I'm sure I missed quite a lot in that first view and I want to pay attention to the special teams too. But make no mistake some of these guys really helped themselves tonight.

I said in another thread the Raiders would have been smart money - remember the Ravens destroying is in game 1 last year? The guys that played last night haven't gotten much reps - here's what I liked:

Tackling - very few missed tackles

Bortles - 3/8 but three drops. Would have been 6/8 for 60ish yards - solid. I liked that he was able to convert a third down too

Rapp - looked good

Run defense - take away that ridiculous 51 yard run by Peterman and we held them to 3 ypc.

Wolford - can he please get all of Allen's snaps please?

Peterson - dude just makes plays

We still don't know enough about SJD, Kiser or the backup OL after this game so im withholding judgement

Sounds like this game was really boring. I'm not worried about this team or our coach when the games count, so I'm glad I left after the first quarter lol.

Bortles was 3/8 50 yards 0 TD.

Hmmm...

Why are people bringing up/arguing over the former backup QB? He's gone. Move on.
