Man do I get what you are saying.

One we were too deep in our own territory at that time in the game.

And two, if that is not a planned call the gunner may not see the ball.
Right before the snap the guys covering the gunner were well off him. That is something the coaches need to teach. A hot read maybe. Or call timeout to get the blocking set up for it. The punter and gunner both need to see it. A simple toss and he probably gains 20 yards and a first down. Luckily they score quick enough for Stafford to work his magic. Not sure anyone in the league is better in that moment.

That would have been a majorly ballsy move, to toss the ball there and get the completion and the first down.
You're right, though.
It looked like NOBODY was within at least 20 yards of the gunner there, so the block was on.

At this stage it’s damage limitation. There is no aspect of special teams that is above average or not league worst!

Who agrees that we should tend towards the following if not exclusively…

1. Have Williams fair catch punts
2. Get Hunter involved in kick returns
3. Most, if not all kickoffs should aim to be placed inside the 5 yard line, so as to limit starting from the 35!
4. We should take on any field goal inside of 40 yards where a turnover on downs might shift the momentum.
5. We are NOT a great 4th down team because, put simply, we do not have one play that works nearly all the time. Limit 4th down attempts to situations where failing does NOT significantly shift the momentum (and put wind the oppositions sails)!

I agree with playing the percentages but looking at our loses in particular, some of our percentages are NOT league average! There are some that are clearly well below league average! Acknowledge that and play to our strengths

I'm guessing Ingle will NOT be brought up from the practice squad for next week's game. Our special teams is why I begin drinking before the game starts.
I would tell him, if i ever see another half ass effort like that again your gone. I would also let the whole team see that and say the same to them.

Maybe the coaches in the booth pay attention and notice the possibility that if Ingles keeps half assing it he could get beat bad. Call it down and have someone talk to him. I get the feeling that even though it has been a problem all season, the team isn't paying attention and are preparing for the next play. Someone should have seen that our kicker was kicking low. the other teams are picking this shit up and setting us up. Nobody cares enough about ST except the ST coaches and they are not getting the support of the team.
McVay’ expressed his unhappiness immediately after the play to the Special Teams coach. He was pissed and TV cameras caught it. If the new special teams coach wants a job after the season it will need to be addressed.

I am being to think that the issue is not the specialist, or the ST coach. Rather, the problem is roster construction (i.e., McSnead).
The problem is definitely at least in part the roster construction. Thing is the ST Coach needs to push for prioritization of lower roster spots for ST purposes, to ensure that third phase is hitting on all cylinders. And McVay tends to prefer upside with those lower depth types, which I understand however teams should always take precedence if the coach for the unit is jumping on that fucking table on cutdown day.

Yes indeed.

I am being to think that the issue is not the specialist, or the ST coach. Rather, the problem is roster construction (i.e., McSnead). We need guys that actually want to play special teams. Not WR5`s returning punts, or backup RB`s not giving a shite whether or not they maintain lane integrity.

We need lunch pail guys on the bottom of the roster who actually want to be on the fucking field.
Whittington was drafted with Special Teams in mind but he was out injured along with Ferguson. They both play special teams and the roster spots are limited. Maybe they could make a move or two on the practice squad once they know their status. They might have to take a different approach to the roster next year.
