Hello everyone,

I've been a Rams fan since Willie Anderson's ot magic at the Meadowlands. The Lakers will always be number one, yet how popular are the Rams compared to the Dodgers? In terms of sporrs radio, newspaper, history etc?

There was a time when the Rams were far and away LA's first love, but unfortunately a lot of the people from that time period are old or dead.

The Lakers exploded in the '80s with Showtime and Magic, and Fernandomania helped cement the Dodgers' already-strong foothold here at a time when the Rams had already left for Anaheim.

In terms of sports radio the Rams lag far behind the Dodgers and Lakers, but the LA Times and LA Daily News (Vinny Bonsignore) absolutely treat them as an equals.

As far as history, the Rams' here is well respected. It's the reason they were welcomed with open arms while the Chargers were getting ridiculed before they even practiced here for the first time.

I'm not an STL fan nor an LA fan. I am a Rams fan. I have backed and followed them through the good and (mostly) bad. They are my team, this day till my last day. I don't care how popular they are. No team in any sport will ever mean as much as this team does. I am a Rams fan. That's all I need.

If the Dodgers win the series....

Rams are moving on up on the West-side after post season they will be above UCLA (they are a mess) & the Clippers, who should move back to San Diego because they now only have the lowly Padres.

I am from L.A. and I hate the Dodgers, I am an Orioles fan...I am a Penn State Fan, OKC Thunder fan. In my eyes the Rams should be more popular than the Lakers, Dodgers, or whatever. Give it til the new stadium. A dynasty is in the making.

Once the Rams start winning like they have been and go back to the jerseys used from ‘73-‘99, they’ll be one of the most popular.

It’s all about winning.

...And switching back to the best jerseys ever created for any sports team.

Even though they haven't made it to the World Series, the Dodgers have made the playoffs something like 10 of the last 14 years. That does wonders for a team's popularity.

Tough too beat Magic and the Lakers. Then you get the legendary performances from Oreo Hershiser and Kirk Gibson. The current Dodgers team is a juggernaut. I hope my Yankees make it to the series and surprise them.

The void from 96' to 16' is huge. There is a lot of fan base to rebuild. There is a big gap from kids in the 80's who are now40 something and few new local fans being cultivated. Diehards or lifers usually start as kids. So we are looking at a good 20-30 to get fans to stick with the team thru losing seasons. If the Rams are winning then we will see the Rams fan base quickly grow with adults and become like the annoying Seattle fans. A bunch of know nothing bandwagoners that just want to be able to say their team rocks.

If the Rams make the playoffs, there will be a huge jump in popularity. The Rams are also a family friendly team, if that makes any sense, like the Dodgers are now. As for the Dodgers, not long ago (7 years+/-), they were in the toilet and it was downright dangerous to go to a game during the previous ownership due top lack of security. The previous owner ran the franchise into the ground and had no money for anything. I looked up and in 2011 attendance was around 2.9 million people at the games for the year and they finished 4th and 3rd for 2010 & 1011. Finishing in first place for the last 5 years, attendance jumped to over 3.7 million each year. What Magic Johnson and his ownership partners have done with the Dodgers has been amazing. Now, I truly believe the Rams can do the same thing, just win and the addition of the new stadium, they will become very popular. The Lakers, with 16 Championship Banners hanging from the rafters and something like 30 trips to the big dance, they will always be extremely popular, but I bet they don't win more than 33 games this year with such a young team.

Wow, we have a couple teams in common. Here is my list.
Rams (Not much more to say than I've been a fan since '69)
Baltimore Orioles (Dave McNally played for the Orioles and was from MT. My dad taught him in high school.)
Portland Trailblazers (Watched them in a summer scrimmage back in '76. Got to meet Bill Walton and Maurice Lucas.)
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Loved getting up Sunday mornings to watch game replays and listen to Lindsey Nelson.)
