I wonder if this was a "playing down to the competition" game for Verse?

I think PFF's folly is that the grades are in a vacuum for a Team sport. They isolate a team game down to grading an individual. If algorythms worked no one would need to play because everyone would know who wins and by how much.

Allen had some blocks in this game. Some of them were seals where the run went behind him. Also was smooth for the most part in the pattern, outside of Stafford yelling at him once. Best game I've seen from him.

Haven't seen the All22 or anything but I'd imagine Ferg's score reflects that he was open more than he got thrown to. Maybe he was great blocking too but I didn't notice him in that regard.

And this was the best game Hav has had in a while. He looked real sharp to me.

Rams best D players had worst grades on the team and we gave up only 10 points.
PFF grades don’t align often with what we see watching the game
If anything, they should either get an incomplete due to not enough opportunities. Saints had less than 17 minutes of possession in the game, so our defenders probably got just a little over half the reps they would get in a normal game.

Or, instead of an incomplete, bump all of their grades up. With multiple 3-and-outs yesterday.

It's really just stupid to grade so many defenders low when they only gave up 10 points, less than 250 yards surrendered, 2 takeways, extremely low time of possession, and never letting the Saints get any momentum, how can you really grade anyone low on the defense?

There's probably also some misconception on what's considered low. Per PFF's grading system, ratings in the 60s are average, not low.

It's just stupid the way they graded our defenders when you look at the team effort yesterday. Fiske is graded low despite getting our only sack. Landman is graded low despite forcing a turnover. And I don't know how anyone can be graded low on run D given that Taysom Hill was their leading rusher and most of that came on one play, getting 29 of his 30 total yards on the ground. Kamara only had 14 yards, and collectively the Saints had 57 total.
