I don't claim to know much about evaluating coaches, but maybe we should schedule an interview with the guy that develops all of those offensive linemen at Iowa.

Also interesting letting Boudreau Jr. go while keeping Boudreau Sr. Any bad blood gonna come out of that?

I also wonder if Paul Boudreau is sticking around. They let his son go and I know he's been sick. I'd like to keep him if he can handle the job.

I'm betting that the Senior Bourdreau retires.

Wonder what Garcia did to not fit in. That surprises me too, given his energy and drive to win.

I can guess why Garcia didn't fit in....

We can only hope that what Fish does, works. I really don't want to go through another head coaching change. Fish has his pros and cons. The defense is his pro and the offense is his con.

I think it's their Head Coach Kirk Ferentz who gets most of the credit from the media. He was a NFL OL Coach when Iowa hired him.

A couple interesting names that are currently available as OL Coaches are Bob Bostad and Jeff Stoutland. Bob Bostad was Wisconsin's OL Coach prior to coming to the NFL in 2012. He worked for the Bucs in 2012 and 2013 and spent 2014 and 2015 in Tennessee. My hesitation with him is that Tennessee's OL was so bad this year. Had a strong college track record but his NFL track record is mixed.

Jeff Stoutland coached Alabama's OL in 2011 and 2012 and then was hired by Chip Kelly to coach the Eagles OL in 2013. The Eagles had arguably the best OL in football in 2013 and one of the best in 2014. Then Kelly tore it apart in 2015 but the OL improved as the year went on and actually looked like a decent unit by year's end.

I'd favor Stoutland over Bostad.

Browns RB Coach:

Wilbert Montgomery

Before joining the Browns, Montgomery spent six seasons (2008-13) as the Baltimore Ravens running backs coach. During his time in Baltimore, the Ravens made five playoff appearances, captured two division titles and won Super Bowl XLVII.

He oversaw the development of 2008 second-round pick Ray Rice, who was named to three Pro Bowls (2009, 2011-12) and was named second-team Associated Press All-Pro twice (2009, 2011). Rice totaled more than 1,100 rushing yards and 1,600 scrimmage yards in four straight seasons (2009-12). He led the NFL with 2,068 yards from scrimmage in 2011 and was second in the league with 1,364 rushing yards. He also set a team record with 15 total touchdowns. Rice ranked fourth in the NFL with 9,214 scrimmage yards (6,180 rushing and 3,034 receiving) from 2008-13.

Montgomery also helped fullbacks Le'Ron McClain (2008-09) and Vonta Leach (2011-12) to multiple Pro Bowls.

In 2008, Montgomery’s unit ranked fourth in the NFL in rushing yards per game (148.5) and fifth in 2009 (137.5). The Ravens also set a team record with 22 rushing touchdowns in 2009.

Prior to Baltimore, Montgomery spent two seasons (2006-07) as the Detroit Lions running backs coach after spending nine years (1997-2005) with the St. Louis Rams. He coached the Rams running backs from 1997-99 and 2003-05, while serving as tight ends coach from 2000-02.

In St. Louis, Montgomery guided two of the NFL’s top running backs in Marshall Faulk and Steven Jackson. Faulk currently ranks 10th on the NFL’s all-time rushing list, while Jackson is 16th.

During his first season with the Rams (1999), Faulk set an NFL record with 2,429 yards from scrimmage as he joined Roger Craig as the only players to total 1,000-plus rushing and receiving yards in a season. Faulk was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year as St. Louis led the NFL in total offense (fifth in rushing) and went on to capture Super Bowl XXXIV.

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Montgomery spent nine seasons (1977-85) in the NFL as a running back. He was a sixth-round pick by Philadelphia and played eight seasons with the Eagles (1977-84). He finished his playing career with Detroit in 1985.

Montgomery was a two-time Pro Bowl honoree (1978-79) and two-time AP All-Pro selection (1978-79). In 1979, he led the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 2,012.

An inaugural inductee of the Eagles’ Honor Roll in 1987, Montgomery set several Eagles franchise records, including career rushing yards (6,538).

As a four-year starter at Abilene Christian, Montgomery set the NAIA record for career touchdowns with 76. He also set the record for touchdowns by a freshman with 37 in 1973, while leading the Wildcats to the NAIA Division I national championship. Montgomery was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986.

A native of Greenville, Miss., Montgomery is one of four brothers with NFL experience: Cleotha (Cin., Cle. and Oak./LA), Tyrone (Oak.) and Fred (K.C. and Phi.).

Montgomery and his wife, Patti, have three children, twins, Brendan and Briana, and a son, Tavian. Montgomery also has a daughter, Sherrita, and a son, Derron.

Wilbert Montgomery’s NFL Playing Background:

1977-84 Philadelphia Eagles, running back
1985 Detroit Lions, running back

Wilbert Montgomery’s Coaching Background:

1997-99 St. Louis Rams, running backs coach
2000-02 St. Louis Rams, tight ends coach
2003-05 St. Louis Rams, running backs coach
2006-07 Detroit Lions, running backs coach

Monday is interesting timing on this interview, makes me wonder if it's timed in the hopes of Green Bay being eliminated this weekend so Fish can interview both him and Van Pelt.

Last year when the Packers refused to allow the Rams to interview him it was said his contract is up after the 2015 season. So I presume if Fish is still hot after him that his name will surface if the Packers are eliminated.

A majority of offensive coaches are being let go. Likely several offensive players will be let go too. New coaches from OC, to WRs, to RBs, plus new players, new system, likely new QB etc.

Can all these changes come to fruition in offseason. SMH. Someone help me understand this.

Rams part ways with five assistant coaches
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/25686/rams-make-changes-to-coaching-staff

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- On Monday, St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher hinted strongly that changes to his coaching staff were coming. On Wednesday, Fisher made it official.

With a number of assistant coaches facing expiring contracts, the Rams and Fisher announced that wide receivers coach Ray Sherman, offensive assistant Jeff Garcia, running backs coach Ben Sirmans, assistant special teams coach Paul F. Boudreau and assistant strength and conditioning coach Adam Bailey will not return for the 2016 season.

“We appreciate all of the hard work and dedication each of our coaches have given to the organization,” Fisher said in a statement. “We wish them well in their future endeavors.”

Perhaps the most noticeable trend among the assistants who won't be back is the subtraction of three members from the offensive coaching staff. That shouldn't be a surprise, though, after the Rams finished last in the league in offensive yards.

The lack of production at wide receiver was particularly glaring, with Sherman at the helm and Garcia helping out.

Sherman’s receiver corps was a disappointment for most of his tenure with the team, but especially in 2015. Despite investing multiple high draft picks at the position, the Rams' receivers were the least productive group in the NFL.

As a group, Rams receivers posted 137 catches for 1,635 yards (last in the NFL) and eight touchdowns. To put that into context, the Falcons' Julio Jones finished with 136 catches for 1,871 yards and eight touchdowns.

Sherman came to the Rams with Fisher in 2012. Garcia, the former NFL quarterback, was just hired last offseason.

Of the list of coaches not returning, Sirmans comes as perhaps the biggest surprise. The Rams finished seventh in the league in rushing yards, with rookie running back Todd Gurley finishing third in the NFL in that category and scoring 10 touchdowns. Like Sherman, Sirmans joined the Rams in 2012.

Boudreau, who is the son of offensive line coach Paul T. Boudreau, had also been with the team since 2012, assisting John Fassel with special teams. The elder Boudreau remains with the club. Bailey assisted strength coach Rock Gullickson since coming on as a volunteer in 2010.

In addition to those spots, the Rams also have an opening at offensive coordinator. It's a job that could go to Rob Boras, who handled those duties for the final four weeks. Fisher spoke highly of Boras earlier this week, but the Rams have also expressed an interest in talking to Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo about the job. That conversation could happen as soon as early next week.

I was not a fan of hiring that Whiner spaz so good riddance. Garcia was grubbing for an NFL job for years, even his 49er family tree wouldn't give him the time of day because he's such a poser nobody wants him around. Fisher threw him a bone despite the fact no one else would hire him and despite he was an awful fit for our team. His usual shtick is to fancy himself the all-knowing guru and badmouth everyone that didn't acknowledge his expertise. So the countdown is on for Garcia's twit post trashing the organization as "thanks" for the opportunity.

Wow, sounds like the new OC is going to be able to make his own hires. This is great news as far as the autonomy Fisher is willing to give up. Wonder if this is conditional with him keeping his job?

Also interesting letting Boudreau Jr. go while keeping Boudreau Sr. Any bad blood gonna come out of that?
He fired GWs kid and it didn't seem to hurt any.

The Browns OC, OT Thomas just stating he's sick of the Browns, my words, not his.....

excerpt:
CLEVELAND: The wash-rinse-and-repeat cycle of losing, hirings and firings may have finally gotten to perennial Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas.

When asked about the possibility of a new coach and general manager coming in following Sunday’s 28-12 season-ending loss to the Steelers, Thomas did not rule out asking for a trade.

The nine-year veteran, drafted third overall in 2007, has three years remaining on a seven-year, $80.5 million contract that included $28.5 million guaranteed.

Three hours after the game, owner Jimmy Haslam fired coach Mike Pettine and General Manager Ray Farmer after a 3-13 finish left the Browns with 18 losses in their last 21 games.

“I was always wanting to be here and be part of the turnaround, but when there’s changes in the front office, changes in the coaching staff, they may not want me,” he said. “They [may] want to go younger. It may be a situation where I don’t want to be here. I don’t know. There’s too many unknowns to really say one way or the other.”

Asked to clarify about whether he wants to leave, Thomas said, “I’m not saying yes, I’m not saying no, but there’s a lot of unknowns and who knows what’s going to happen next week.”

Thomas was nearly traded to the Denver Broncos at the league’s deadline this season, catching more than a few people off guard. That in itself would’ve caused most people to think about changing teams, but for Thomas it’s a myriad of issues. Combined they equal one word: change.

“The older you get the harder the changes are. They’re the hardest on the older guys,” Thomas said.

“That’s always been my desire is to turn this team into a winner. That’s certainly still my goal, but it’s impossible to say what the future’s going to hold with a lot of potential changes looming.”

I like it.

I think Travis Benjamin is a free agent also.
