Glad to hear Snead could be retained. I'm a huge fan of his, hire a great regime in here with Snead making the selections and I'm a happy camper!

I'm very happy that they are keeping Les and i hope it stays that way. Fish was the man I wanted gone. Don't know who I want for the next head coach. They have to get it right this time. I won't go through another rebuild.

Im ok with him coming back long as Snead isn't saying, "Hey, we need a coach and I heard that Jeff Fisher might have become available"

The team I've seen the last few weeks certainly doesn't look very talented... I'm kind of with Merlin on t his.. they all need to go.

Here's a post from a year ago.
------------------------------------------
Snead has been the Rams GM for four years. He has taken alot of crap for missing on that guy or drafting this guy etc...unfairly when you look at the complete body of work, and put it next to some of the other GM's body of work around the league.

It's true that he hasn't been perfect or near perfect, but who has? Grass is always greener syndrome?

It's really easy to call out Pead, Quick and Robinson as a bust, claim the Rams drafts have been poor...and ignore the entire body of work. It's myopic IMO. Good talent has been brought in. A few misses in the top couple rounds. Pead & Quick stand out to me. Robinson possibly but it's too early.
I look at these recent drafts by the "best" GM's out there and i don't see anything consistently far superior to what Snead has done in that same time. That's my opinion.

Below are facts.
Look at it. Make your own determinations. I went with generally successful teams and highly regarded GM's who don't generally rely on free agency a whole lot. I'm not including player trades or trade ups, trade downs. I don't have time for that. This is the talent pool taken on draft day.

I thought I heard somewhere where the Coach on many teams tended to have more sway when it came to 1st/2nd round but even if the coach had total control over personnel, they had to lean heavily on the GM and their staff for rounds beyond 1 and 2 as they just didn't have the time to grind tape on that many prospects.

If this is true, one should theoretically look at how many hits were made 3rd round on...

I like Snead sure he has missed on some top of the round high picks but what team doesn't ?

I like his wheeler dealer type attitude and the fact we hit on a lot of UDFAs

Aren't those basically all playoff teams? Wouldn't a better comparison be teams with similar records the past few years?

Snead is gone.

No new coach is going to want the stench of his failure with Fish. Also, I keep remembering him noting that if they'd had Keenum two years prior they would have been a playoff team. The dude went all in with Fisher's vision and was wrong, I don't want that type of GM. I want a guy who is his own guy, and one who is NOT going to get in the way of a head coaching hire.

The new coach will have someone in mind before he walks into that interview, along with his plans for everything else. That's who will get the job.

How is it his failure when he was under Fisher's command? Fisher had final say over personnel. When the Rams drafted for need two years ago and picked a bunch of Olinemen, was that something he did without Fisher's consent? I doubt it. And wasn't that Boudreau we saw working out those higher drafted linemen and giving his opinion on?

I think it is just assumption to put it on Snead, especially if Demoff is convinced to keep him on. Sure he may only be part of the team long enough to keep the draft and free agency evaluations going, and finding a coach, but we won't really know anything about who the stench belongs to until Snead is either replaced, or carries out his own draft.

Not sure it's a wise move, but time will tell.

Very wise move. At the very least Snead can continue draft and free agent evaluations, and get a new coach up to speed very quickly once he is hired. And remember a scouts and GMs job is to find the types of players that the coaches want him to. Maybe Snead was just looking for the types of players that Fisher wanted. There was a theme of valuing athleticism over football knowledge. That worked on Defense but not on offense. How do you know that was not all pushed by Fisher?

Stench of failure by association. Not fair but then things often aren't.

Hot coaching candidates are gonna want their own guys they know they can work with. Demoff is not going to protect Les if the new coach doesn't want him.

I give Les a 10% chance of survival. Dude is basically gone and will probably end up back with Atlanta.

Should Snead stay on, I'd suspect one of the younger NFL offensive coordinators or a university level coach being in a better position to come in. Veteran HC's would likely clean house and bring in their own guys. jmo.

I see a lot of people saying a new HC would want to bring in their own guy, and while that might be true, who even knows if they have a guy. its not like an assistant coach, where its someone you worked with before and feel could be an extension of you and your coaching. I doubt these potential 1st year coaches really worked with anyone in the FO to call their guy. Not saying it wont happen, but I think itll depend more on if the new HC and Snead can see eye to eye on what they want/need to do.

I disagree with the %10 chance. Coaches marry themselves to other coaches that they develop a network with. They don't have hand picked GMs that are on their wishlist, the same as it is for assistant coaches. I could see a new coach working with Snead through his contract....Especially if Snead is instrumental in the hiring. Demoff may already have decided that Snead is the main man for all we know.

We shall see. IMO the Rams will be told no by the rockstar types, they'll interview the OCs in the small window when the season ends, and once the internal decision is made it's sayonara Les.

And that aside I do like Snead, btw. But I just don't think he's the guy, and I don't think any of these coaches will be insane enough to accept him as part of the agreement. Time will tell.
