They have to be the only NFL team to win the world championship in 3 different cities? Hats off to Rams quarterback Bob Waterfield for winning world championships in 1945 and 1951. AND for having the stunning movie star Jane Russell as his wife
I guarantee there is a handshake agreement here that the NFL will prioritize them next expansion. Makes sense all around. And then they don't have to take another city's team, which tbh is something cities should all collectively avoid doing.

I dunno... the NFL and St Louis have gone through 2 messy, antagonistic divorces (with Bidwill in 1988 and Kroenke in 2016). Just seems like a lot of mistrust and ill will on both sides.
How bad do fans in the Loo want yet another team? And how hard is the NFL willing to make it work the 3rd time around?
ROD members in and from St Louis would have a better sense of this than I do. But just based on recent history, sure seems to me like a lot of obstacles to arrange a 3rd marriage between St Louis and the NFL.
My overall view of the settlement-- seems like a "moderate win" for:
1. The NFL. Overall, coulda been a lot worse, maybe a multi-billion dollar punishment after a messy trial right before the Super Bowl. Only downside for the NFL is now they actually might have to follow their own relocation rules.
2. St. Louis. Yeah they got screwed over and lost their team again. But that's a hefty settlement as consolation.
3. Kroenke. All in all he still comes out way ahead of the game. He got his 5B palace and saw the value of the Rams skyrocket. He damn well knew he wanted to move to LA as early as 2013, but strung along St Louis for 3 years and (mostly) got away with it.
And finally....
4. Lawyers. 276 mill as their chunk of the settlement? Sheesh.

My dad wanted to take the Chargers as the new St. Louis team...without Spanos.
As for me, the only real reason I'd go to a St. Louis football game is if the Rams were playing the St. Louis team. People like my dad would probably choose city over team, but I doubt that happens. Like you said, St. Louis has gone through too many messy divorces for them to fully invest in a football team.
I think if the Chargers ever get rid of Spanos they should move back to SD.
But yeah. Good times watching games in STL. I also think going a 3rd round with the NFL might be too much, but I wish them luck with whatever they try to do.
If the NFL ever puts a team back in STL, I will guaranty that I will be there for at least 1 game, just to meet up with some of the great people I met there thru the years.

I think the only way it could work, is if the new team in St Louis was run like the Packers in Wisconsin. The community would have to own the team and not some billionaire owner, which I don't know if it's possible in this day and age....

It's not, the NFL has deemed that type of ownership illegal, the Packers are just grandfathered in.
Which is honestly a little surprising because the Packers sell "ownership" licences that say that the owners don't actually have any real stake in the team, can't be part of any process, and if they shit-talk the NFL they can be fined 500K.
I was coming at it from a a stability perspective, not necessarily from a legalistic one. I would says that as long as there is an NFL, the Packers will be the least likely to ever leave, which is the stickler for St Louis folks...

I understand, it's just unfortunate that the NFL wouldn't allow something like that, so going forward basically any team outside of the Packers (and honestly, probably even them to some extent) can use the threat of relocation to put the squeeze on a city.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL quietly changes relocation rules to give themselves more wiggle room to avoid a potential lawsuit in the future. Even if it's something as ridiculous as "teams will continue to engage with the city regardless of if they are acting in good faith or not" I'm sure they want to give themselves maximum leverage.

It sucked how they even moved to STL in the first place, and I could write a Novel on that but we’ve heard it before
This much is indisputable, the moment the became the LA Rams again, they went from bottom of the bucket value NFL franchise to the top tier, Stan knew this, its surprising many others thought his roots would save the day for STL, a point I brought up more than once on the potential move ROD sticky a few years ago
That being said I’m happy for the STL community
