While I think a WR is a definite need on this team, is it one of the top 2 needs?

My head says no, heart says yes.

I'd think a S and OLB are two greater areas of need. I could be able to have my opinion changed about S if either Daniels or McLeod developed into starting caliber.

Aside from Dunbar, who else is a starting caliber OLB?

While I'd love to see a WR taken early in the draft, I don't think it's the greatest area of need.

Breaker, Breaker. Good Buddy. El Sneado said we don't have no stinking needs. We have wants.

The latest I heard on a starting OLB is the Rams just had a new delivery of bowling pins delivered from Brunswich. They're going to try them out. They have more movement during the play than our SLBs had last year. El Sneado thinks if he can get some pin action going, he's on to something no one else has. He consulted with Ziggy who told him it was a wonderful cap move. El Sneado will probably trade one or two of the silver and blue pins to Jerry Jones for one of his draft picks.

On a semi-serious note, I hope we aren't dumpster diving again this year at OLB.

Every team has needs,but not every team has holes.

The Rams have a hole at WR. I'm not sure how that can be argued.

Funny to see some of us bickering over Austin...I love it. As you all know, I am kinda queer for the kid, so I tend to focus on his strengths and not as much on his perceived weaknesses. So far, the only weakness that I have seen mentioned, or at least substantiated, is his size. My opinion is that this is one small player that uses his stature to his advantage whenever possible. His ability ALLOWS him to do this. Some other smaller guys, with LESS ability are less able to take advantages of their speed.

Obviously, no one knows how any of these guys will do at the next level. It is all speculation from a bunch of internet GM, I get it. But to compare Austin to Cook seems silly to me. To be clear, Cook really has not accomplished much in his young pro career to date. So lets compare his college stats to Tavon's shall we:

BTW, these are only Tavon's RECEIVING stats:

Jared Cook:
2006-2008 (3 yrs)
Rec = 73
Yds = 1107
Avg = 15.2
TDs = 7

Tavon Austin:
2009-2012 (4 yrs)
Rec = 288
Yds = 3413
Avg = 11.7
TDs = 29

His rushing stats are pretty decent too in case anyone forgot:

Att = 108
Yds = 1031
Avg = 9.7!!!

I hear people talk about how Cook was "under utilized" in TEN and that he has the "potential" to be a big time TE/WR. Well, I feel the same way about Austin. He has the "potential" to be a BIG time playmaker at the next level. That is the only comparison I would make between the two. Time will tell.....

Good post. This is where I have a hard time with people saying, Cook is our slot receiver we don't need one. Look, we all hope Cook does well but to compare Cook and Austin just doesn't compute to me. They are different types of players. We can all say, well he did that in College- but you can say that about every player, every year. I have a hard time believing a guy that runs a 4.3 can go from 0-60 in seconds and is as shifty as Austin won't produce at the next level. Do I know that for sure? Of course not. But I'm willing to bet he does. So for people saying get a WR in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th round, How the hell is someone in the later rounds who doesn't seem to have the same skill set going to produce at the next level any better? Just sayin.. Every major analyst and scout has Austin in the top 2 or 3 receivers in this draft. IF not #1.. You can watch tape on all of the receivers and the two that stand out the most are Austin and Patterson. I like Hunter and Hopkins and Rodgers and a few others too. But they don't beat players and teams like these guys do. They just don't. We don't all have to agree on who we want drafted but if you can honesly watch video on all the receivers and you don't think Austin and Patterson are the two most dynamic receivers in the draft, well I don't know what to say. Agree to disagree I guess. All I really care about though is that our team gets players to make us better after the draft is over. I'm sure we can all agree on that :nice:

You're more accurate than what's reported in the press or the talk shows. I'd say we got holes at SLB and FS also. Shelly, Rok, or Washington might step up at LG but I'm not holding my breath.

It's the new world order. Don't worry, don't think, take a pill, read crap, believe crap. Ain't life grand.

No one disagrees that Austin or Patterson were beast in college. Where the dusagreement seems to come from is how they will perform on the next level.

Or you can observe the improvements that happened last year and figure that maybe Snead and Fisher will bring in a decent player or like what they see out of a couple of their young guys. OR prioritize other positions ahead of your perceived holes. Not sure where you are trying to go with your quote but to me it comes off a little derogatory and disrespectful to fans who see big improvements in motion.

Maybe you didn't mean it that way. If you did, I'd caution to not think you know more because you have an opinion. Because, it is just that.

It's a joke, man. Maybe in questionable taste but a joke none the less. I'll take what you say under advisement. You have a nice day now.

Sorry for the mischaracterization. After watching the direction many sites tend to turn, I suppose I'm just a little defensive of this site. My apologies.

Yeah. You may be right. I'm on a few other discussion boards that are quite loosy goosy so I've usually got to clean up my act when I come here. I added it under my text so we would have a little laugh.

Yeah, it is nice.

The alternative being, letting Username kick everyone in the dick.

That works too, punching and kicking in the dick.

This has been a real hot button topic. Feelings run strong for this debate. Tavon, or a big receiver.

No blood no foul as we used to say.

FYI, I'm as happy with Rams management as a coon hound licking his peter. I tend to run in shock and awe phases for some tastes because I love laughter.

In the day, I've been thrown out of more low life places than Bill's had affairs.

Top of the day to ya.

In my honest opinion, I think that our offensive line has a chance to be AMAZING this year if we pick up a very talented Guard with our 16th if the right guys are still on the board. imagine - Dahl, Long, Safford, Wells, ?Warmack, Cooper?. our Offensive line problem would be solved and no more worries about that till maybe next year if people don’t re-sign or get released.

I just think that we have 2 Solid 2nd year guys at WR that need devolvement time, it’s crucial that we get these guys on the field starting and gaining experience. Also with the addition of Cook, WR should not be our main focus.

these are the positions in order I believe we need, G/S/OLB/RB/WR

Thank you! Nearly every NFL talking head that I have heard agrees. Management has made some good moves so far. Let's see what happens at WR.

From hopelessness and despair to pure pleasure. Do you know if they make Viagra for coon hounds?
