I'm usually against older signings but he sounds like he would be great next to Robinson.

True. Is he an upgrade worth skipping a guard in the draft for?

Nope. That's why you sign him. Type of player that allows you time to develop a draft pick without forcing you to use a liability...and once the draft pick is ready, he's about as good as you can get as a backup off the bench.

Its great and all but shouldn't we be aiming higher than a 31 year old guard?

Nope. That's right where we should be aiming. Will be cheap due to his age but if his play last year is any indicator, he's still a solid starting OG.

if no o-line Atlanta is willing to let him go, there may be red flags

This makes too much sense not to happen. Not exciting in any sense of the word, but hopefully a solid Harvey Dahl type starter while some of the younger guys we draft this year develop.

Like a bunch in here, I feel this is a bridge for a rookie draft pick, but it doesn't seem like it'll be a plug & play type like Scherff...Maybe Thomlinson, Cann, or a small school guy that stands out(Ali Marpet?)...Still older FA's make me nervous...

Plug and Play rookies are not actually plug and play. They still take lumps and are more of a liability than a vet would be, just less liability than their peers. Even a guy like Scherff can benefit from a year on the bench. It still is a luxury.

The ideal route to take with free agency is to fill all holes on the roster, then the teams can draft BPA. As long as the signings are an upgrade to the roster the team improves.

Blalock at LG and Saffold at RG is an improvement. This signing reduces a draft need affectively.

Besides, I wanted the Rams to draft Blalock years ago so Elm finally gets his man. I approve of his signing.

Get him signed. Solid starter at LG that's missed 1 game over the past 7 or so seasons. Can be a bridge guy to whatever rookie OL we bring in. We need reliable talent and depth on the OL. He's both.
What concerns me is, so does ATL.

I don't know about a 31 yr old LG who is let go, he's sounding more like well done not medium rare if you ask me. I don't know about being a stop gap until a rookie gets drafted and pans out because we all know that Barrett Jones has shown that works While giving us shit o line play in the mean time. If they are targeting Blalock that tells me we are possibly postponing ourselves to move up for a QB and give up our 10th pick which would be prime for (Brandon Sherff).

Going to be very interesting to say the least.

There are a few guys who are more up to speed on the guy. They say that he is a good guard but he's to big and not athletic enough to play zone. That's the only reason the falcons cut him. I looked him up and most people are saying the same
