It has to be MacGinnis... isn't there a 2 week Covid protocol for bringing in someone from off the streets?

Gay hit 77% of his FGs last year but also missed five XPs.

Gay is one of the guys I named. He's quite interesting. Was an elite college kicker (won the Groza Award in 2017). Had an up and down rookie year in 2019. Bucs went with Succop, the veteran. Gay has the leg and was quite accurate in college. Could be one of those guys who finds his groove when given a second chance. Obviously, though, MacGinnis will get first crack.

Don’t miss XPs and at least get it to the end zone consistently.

While being able to kick 30+ is nice, we’ve been spoiled. I think we’d all settle for the above.

We have one the best punters. We could just take delay penalties and back them into their own endzone. I’d take that over a 30 yarder too.

Meanwhile, over at the Hajrullahu residence....

McVay is receiving his real-time lesson on special teams this season. He's a quick study though so hopefully he realizes he can't trust Bonamego and will take his input with a fucking grain of salt in this search.

If I were in McVay's shoes I would be on the horn with Andy Reid asking for permission to hire Andy Hill away from the Chiefs right now. It's a job upgrade and Reid may allow it. And for the record I know nothing about Andy Hill other than the fact that Dave Toub is the best ST coach in the league in my opinion and Hill's his understudy.

But either way Bonamego would be fired this week. I dislike almost every single thing they have done under his direction. Poor hire, ok fix it and move forward. If I had to dip down into the college ranks to replace him so be it.

Never heard of a coach changing teams mid season... but if there was ever a time to consider it, this could be it.

In camp, I was rooting for MacGinnis. Sloman too young and unproven, while Hajrullahu seemed to struggle in the 40-49 range.

MacGinnis was perfect (10 for 10 I think) on FG’s during his XFL stint.

Another week, another kicker...

How Toub isn't a HC yet is really surprising to be honest.

I don't see a problem with bringing in a guy with a power leg from soccer or rugby and putting him on the PS while you coach him up. Unfortunately there's that small detail about who's doing the coaching lol. But I think if you invited a handful of those types and have them do kickoffs on a tee then sign the one who kicks the furthest consistently what do you have to lose? We already miss easy field goals. Might find a diamond in the rough never know.
Yep, send someone down under and see what’s what. Agreed.

As far as you guys calling for our ST coaches head on a platter. Not so fast! Take a look at our place kickers during kick offs. They are nailing line drives to the 1 yard line not giving our cover guys a chance to get down the field. Our coverage has been pretty solid, but if our kickers can't hold up their end its going to come across as bad coverage when in fact it's not.

You make a good point, however, that's on John Bonamego too, IMO, I believe there was not much available last season for the Rams when it came to special team coaches. Two new coaching staffs in Carolina & Washington kept their current ST Coaches even with new staffs. Bonamego was fired in Detroit, but did have a unit that was 15th overall. Not sure if McVay cuts ties after just one year, but there should be plenty available with all the changes coming this year and Tracy Smith of Houston would be a good one to get IMHO.

Had plenty of interviews just wasn't the right fit, have to be over the top if you're a ST Coach like John Harbaugh & Joe Judge, however, with Judge success and believe me the Giants are playing much better, it might open up owners eyes in regards to those assistants.

We should have tried to see what the Giants would have wanted for Graham Gano
I don’t think they would have moved Gano. I live in NYC, and they really like Gano who I believe has missed just one kick in three seasons.

Signed him to a three year extension the other day; and see this morning that Gano has tested COVID positive.

Here is a question...

I remember Hekker doing a Dude Perfect video years back and if memory serves me correct, he did a couple trick field goals...could he not be better at kicking FG than what we have on the roster? Or would that wear his leg out too much? Im not certain on the strain these guys feel from kicking.
Hmmmm. I remember the punt from the top of a building into a kiddie pool. Legatron was doing the trick FG kicks, I think...
