Does one need to have intimate, nuanced knowledge of the offensive playbook to crack the Special Teams unit?

Kid needs to learn the speed of the game at this level.

McVay likes to play with his toys, right away even.
Only guy I can think of treated this way was Brycen Hopkins and we know how that worked out

Maybe but ALL the TEs drafted around Ferguson are getting a decent amount of snaps.

From Mason Taylor, selected four picks ahead of Ferguson, to Arroyo, Fanin, Helm, Evans, Gadsen and Hawes (all drafted between the late-second and fifth rounds) ... everyone is seeing a fair amount of playing time. Some of those guys are on good teams.

It's very early; and Ferguson did miss valuable Camp time due to an injury ... Plus ... the Rams have three experienced TEs. Still, it would be nice to see Ferguson game-day active, with some role.
Remember that McVay's offense is probably the most complex offense in the NFL.

On the bright side, he will be ready when he does see time and other teams won’t have film on him. Great weapon to have the 2nd half of the season and post season. We are in a good place!

I get it, he missed quite a bit of camp due to injury.
But it's getting really hard having to watch all these other TE's already grinding for their teams.

I can't help but think, in the 3rd quarter (from what I recall) Higbee ran a wheel down the right sideline and Stafford just threw it too far in front of him for what would have been a huge gain. Would Ferg have had the speed to be under that pass and have a massive gain (possibly 6)? Just a thought.

Sit Parkinson for 1 game and give Ferg a few plays. I'm sure he remembers how to catch the ball and run.

And Kincaid
McBride too.

I just don’t think there is anything here.
I don’t trust coaches and GM’s take on their top draft picks potential when they aren’t playing and I don’t think Fergz not playing is overly concerning.

Adding speculation because why not?

Just a reminder of Ferg's pre-draft:
Productive pass catcher with good size but an alarming lack of tenacity and fire when it’s time to run block.
. . . he might need to find the grit needed to compete against NFL tough guys . . .

Could it be that he's just too soft for the Rams to play him right now? Possibly?

If he needs toughening up, that process is probably going to take a while.
As a former GM in another sport said:
I’d rather tame a tiger than paint stripes on a kitty cat.

Ill take a super bowl championship, so yeah.....
Well ... Hopkins did come through in the Super Bowl, when injuries left him as the lone healthy TE. Hopkins caught four passes that day; and, I believe, three came in the fourth quarter.

However, in four seasons, Hopkins totaled 13 receptions. That's what Nacua had on Sunday! Great for a game.
But that ain't too good for four years.

Or, Stafford could have simply thrown a better pass? Higbee did his job, he got open. I love 9 but that one was on him.

I'm not worried about Ferguson. Not yet. Development is never linear for any sports. Younger players often will have their struggles, especially in rookie years - and that's not even counting injuries. For them not to play in their rookie year isn't that big of a deal. It's when they get older and are still struggling that I get worried. Ferguson is only twenty-two and won't turn twenty-three until March of next year.

He has plenty of time, and when there's vets like Higbee (our starter), Parkinson (right or wrong, the staff seems to love Parkinson), and Allen (who is developmentally ahead) ahead of him, it's natural that we'd go to them first.
