That makes sense.

Donnal looked decent at backup RT which only Saffold has played. Maybe Donnal goes on the short term IR.

It's very confusing with the pick up of Dielman and Neary. The Rams could see Blythe's value as an OC/OG and have him compete with Dielman to replace Sullivan at OC in the future. Dielman is going to need time to learn the offense so Blythe should will be safe for a while.
We'll know who the Center of the future is if Eldrenkamp is signed to the PS. Sullivan is a one year signing as is Blythe with them both being veterans but we have more control long term over Eldrenkamp and Dielman. Blythe was good in game action I just don't see the value of cutting him.

Actually I thought he played really well in preseason, but they claimed two guys in Dielman & Neary who play Center and I don't see them carrying 10 offensive linemen, so I am a connect the dots guy and I believe that Blythe will be the guy they release.
Dielman has started in college at Center, Right Tackle and Right Guard. Not sure where he played in camp for the Bengals I'd have to dig for that but he's very versatile just like Blythe he's a Kromer type in that.

I don't see the value in cutting him either. Why would they bring back Eldrenkamp with all the OC/OG they have now? Bythe has one year experience so I don't think that is a big factor as far as control. Sullivan could play another year after this year.

You all are expending alot of energy trying to dissect the roster decisions involving career depth players.

Our center of the future is not currently on the team. I'm not saying it's impossible to develop in an All Pro, but rarely do camp cuts turn out to be future anything but future depth.

The bottom of the roster is always churning and turning. I dont know how much better we got today, but the goal is to get alittle better so I hope these are the right moves.

Dielman is an interesting signing. He's a guy I liked as a developmental OL. He can play all five OL spots. He's a good athlete and a solid technician. He's still learning at Center and needs to get stronger, but he has a skill-set worth developing.

Sometimes, players surprise you, Dog. That is especially true at Center. Jeff Saturday didn't even make it to training camp as a rookie. Matt Paradis (one of the top Centers in the NFL currently) spent his first year on the Broncos practice squad. Scott Wells started off on the Packers practice squad. Center is a position where you can find gems on the waiver wire now and then. That's how Kromer found Ryan Groy on the Bucs practice squad.

Bengals were hoping to sneak Dielman onto their practice squad, so that could be a good sign he might have something in him.

That and the Bengals have a great track record of drafting and developing OL men. So I'm hoping we found something in him also

Yea that is true, and I assumed someone would drop prime examples to counter my assertations. But for the most part, I've seen us and probably even participated in debate and conversation ad nausium over the bottom of our roster.

However, IF a jag pops through the muck, I'll also agree with you that the center position is one more likely to produce such a breakthrough player. That position demands so much more than size and strength and it's sometimes difficult to see the necessary attributes.

Now...where the heck is our Jeff Saturday!

Q: Can Dielman be an upgrade over Javon Brown, to me he appears to be the weakest link.
