When you really break down this team it's about the most complete roster ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL. Most teams are good offensively or defensively but very few are equally good on both sides. This team can beat you with their offense as well as their defense. I know I was extremely critical of Staley early on, but it was justified. Once Staley, really began to use the talent he has the difference is night and day. The way this team is playing right now is how I envisioned them before the season. IMO had they started like this, they probably would be undefeated.
This is a championship-caliber roster. I said it before the season and I've seen only validation of that in the play of this team. The o-line is playing as well as I expected, but it's the defense that is beginning to shine. One of the talking heads actually said something I've been saying which is that this secondary looks like the best in the NFL.
The Rams' only impediment is themselves. Their play needs to continue to be disciplined and the coaching needs to continue to be aggressive, creative, and sound.
I really loved the breakdown of Noteboom. I have really loved his play since the SF game in 2018. That's when I knew they had what looks like an elite talent at LT. This is why I've always been so high on him. That video showed how quick and smooth he is, and what great play radius and vision he plays with. This is exactly what I saw in him in 2018.
IMO Edwards has the equal ability if they simply move him to RT. He is being played out of position and not played to his strengths. It's a waste of talent. Corbett is a better LG than he is at RG. At RG you want a grinder. Corbett plays with an attitude which I love, but he isn't smash mouth. Shelton and Evans look to be guys that can play that RG position with the aggression that is needed.
I really hope they transition Anchrum to OC because he could be a good fit. He has the feet and arm length you want at the position. That said that type of transition normally is a minimum of 2 years to make. Shelton is the guy I really would love at OC next year.
What I'm saying is that the Rams already have the makings of an absolute rock solid o-line already on the roster if they simply get rid of the weak links, i.e. Havenstein and Blythe.
I'm really excited about how this team is evolving before our eyes. This year's team is in my opinion better than in 2018 and I think it's going to be even better in 2021. The Rams are set up to be a SB contender for years.
