It's even worse than that, according to some CBS talking head I happened to catch yesterday: "The only thing holding back the Rams is Jared Goff."
Goff has been holding back the Rams to only 42 wins under McVay.
If it weren't for him we'd have 61.
I expect Goff to continue to hold us back at least to deep in the playoffs, and possibly to hold us back to the NFC championship game and Super Bowl.
Till this day I swear they never got over the fact he wasn't a bust. To make matters worse, there are no scandals that come out of LA. No glaring off the field issues, and our QB maintains his focus on football rather than intense speeches and polarizing QB runs that end in him getting hurt. They've always hated Goff, and they won't shut up until he actually wins a SuperBowl. To be honest, I think Goff is a better Tom Brady in the works or settles in at being a rich mans Matt Ryan. If he's already commanding the line of scrimmage and audibling into run plays; its clearly evident he's about the team rather than about numbers and himself.
Literally saw a youtube video of some jack ass taking Baker over Goff because he isn't "passionate" enough. LOL how slow does a news week have to be, where you criticize a QB for not yelling enough. Because that constitutes leadership. Not throwing an interception, and getting back up to throw touchdowns. Instead, we base leadership based off yelling and getting fired up. I'm not hearing that bull shit. Goff is milk toast, and boring; just the way I like it. You know what happens to media darlings who are fun to watch? They end up like Cam Newton, Carson Wentz, or how about Marcus Mariota and Matthew Stafford. Always hurt, but put up gaudy numbers except when it matters most. The best ability is availability.
I never bought into the narrative that Goff was bottle necking our franchise either. Unless an elite quarterback walks through that door between the ages of 20-28, I'm not interested in risks or miracles; I'm interested in results. And until McVay can no longer get results out of Goff is when we move on. 42 wins and counting media pundits.
