He went the direction he was shoved. The ball went over his head before he could change direction from the shove. Not a thing he could do.

Why did he jump forward after he was shoved.

He really misjudged the ball.

If he had jumped backwards, then I would have been okay with him on that throw.
 
He saw the ball at the last second and started a move but gave up cause out of reach.
I dont know about you , but i cant change my momentum in a split second. I think you are being unrealistic in your expectations.
