Yep, CR liked Walsh, but not sure if he would have bought him out of his contract back then with a college yo had to do that. Klosterman & Steve Rosenbloom wanted CR to go with Dan Reeves, but Carroll Rosenbloom had a good rapport with George Allen's agent and went with Allen only to regret it and fire after two preseason games.

So instead of Walsh, Don Coryell or Dan Reaves (Cowboy Assistant at the time) Rams ended up with sloppy Ray.
Wow.....a lot going on there....fired after two preseason games??

Yep in 1978 the Rams lost to New England 140-0 and San Diego 14-7 and Rosenbloom fired Allen and hired Malavasi, who was the only Knox holdover. The players revolted and some refused to practice under Allen because they were long practices that many felt were not as organized as Knox's practices, which required them to be on the field less.

Losing 140-0 should cost you your job...

Yah it’s weird how historically, the Rams and Niners are rarely good at the same time. Usually when one team is good/great the other team stinks.

At least in my time since the late 70’s.

I love it when both are good tbh.
Especially when we knock them out of the playoffs and go win the title. :trophy:

I remember years earlier when it was the opposite. Rosenbloom fired Allen and many of the teams stars said publicly they wouldn't play if Allen wasn't their coach. Guys like Dick Bass, Jack Snow, Bernie Casey and others even held a press conference stating they'll demand to be traded or retire.

I’m pretty sure it was Dan Reeves that fired Allen (first time), resulting in a player protest and Allen being rehired.

But I will yield to knowledgeable posters like @dieterbrock and @den-the-coach for confirmation.

Those guys are really old.

That was not Carroll Rosenbloom, it was Daniel Farrell Reeves in 1969. Rosenbloom had swapped the Colts for the Rams in 1972 from Robert Irsay, who had purchased the Rams from the estate of Reeves.

You are correct and FWIW just because you enjoy history, it does not make you old. Although my DOB is 9/12/1966.
