I like Stowers (and fuck the Eagles), but honestly, I see him more as a big receiver type, which I think he would excel at. I don't think he has the chops at blocking edge rushers to stick at tight end for very long.

As for Sadiq? Never liked him and would've been highly disappointed with him at #13; he really looks like he's simply an athlete playing tight end, and he doesn't know the nuances.

As far as true tight ends who have it all? Klare was my top choice; I just didn't expect the Rams to take another second-round tight end when they already took Ferguson and have Higbee, Parkinson, and Allen. I'm fine with the pick, and I assume we're trading one of Allen or Parkinson; I doubt we stick with five tight ends.
most of our TEs are on expiring contracts

TE is a difficult position to learn; there's so much that goes into it, not just receiving, but blocking as well.

I'd love an eventual tight end room of Ferguson and Klare. I don't expect Klare to make too much of an impact because of Higbee, Parkinson and Ferguson all ahead of him, but I have him rated as the best "true" tight end in this class; Sadiq is an athlete playing tight and, while Stowers is a big receiver.

I think a lot of the teams that selected tight ends in the second round are going to be kicking themselves for passing on Klare.
I agree, when I watch Max Klare, he reminds me of Dalton Kincaid. Both players excel when aligned in the slot, where they can exploit mismatches against safeties and linebackers.

I love this. The thread winner of all thread winners. Great job as always Memphis. This illustrates why we have so many top tight ends on our roster and with this there is less reliance on having as many top wide receivers. Although we do need to strive to upgrade our WR corps. I don't know where Davis Allen stands as the fifth tight end right now, but right now we have 4 "no 1" tight ends. Obviously I'm using Tyler Higbee as when he's completely healthy, he was definitely a 1 in his prime.

Edit: added Josh as a follow, thanks again, Mem.

I would lying if I said I wasn't confused when the selection was made.

But, Higbee is 33 and has played in only 13 games for the past couple of seasons combined and Klare might be the best receiving option (route runner/most elusive/ best YAC guy) of the bunch.

I just read a DeSilva article about Klare where desilva mentioned several times that Klare didn't attend the combine or work out.
But he doesn't mention why.
Anybody know why?
And yes, I'm too lazy to read this entire thread to find out.

Snead is his Godfather and promised him that he’d take him in the 2nd round.

This is probably one of the most important advantages to running the 13 set:

Puka’s play style is aggressive. 13 personnel gives him ample time to rest during a game to reduce injury. He only ran 456 routes in the NFL, that is 27th highest if we look at each team's most frequent route runner. Yet, he had the 2nd most yards.

In a Podcast Kupp stated one of the things nobody realizes is how rundown you get running a route, running back to the huddle and running another route over and over even if you don't touch the ball.

Funny reading how efficient Stafford was with 13 and Ferguson particularly because they just could not connect on a lot of wide open plays early on when Ferguson started playing more. Really looking forward to that connection improving because they left a handful of big time plays on the field last season.

Would not be surprised if we carry 5 TEs and 5 or 6 WRs this season.

I'll also note that if there's one thing I look for with WRs and TEs, it's separation quickness. I think the athletes in the NFL are too good for guys to just run past. You have to be able to win with route running and change of direction. Klare has the capability to do that. The drops concern me. I wasn't sure how the Rams would feel about him because of the drops. But if you can clean those up and polish his game up, this dude could be the next Zach Ertz.

Who knows ?? Then what Fans maybe forgetting is what other teams are doing with WR’s.

Oldschools favorite TE last season coming out in 2025 played at Cleveland. He was there Top Receiver as in catches most of the season.
Look at Arizona ? Now they have LOVE as well.Mike Lafleur has McBride who was Fighting Puka for the Triple Crown.

Ferguson really had a Hard Time getting on The Grass in 2025.Allen in 2024 took a step back from his rookie season.

That is just the start of what this brings.

wondering if the $ they’ll save when Park, Hig & Allen move on will ensure keeping Dotson and Avila.

And.. I guess they’re comfortable with McClendon!
They still have sign all these players.Plus he is not a guy that wouldn’t put on the WORK to get better.

I don't think it's intentional on Stafford's part but I think he naturally looks for his dependable vets first in his progressions. I think that was part of the problem with Tutu. He just never felt that dependable connection.
Just my opinion on this one.

I'm pretty sure we'll carry 5 TE's. But probably only 4 will be active on game days. Higbee's age usually means a he'll miss a few games. Having the depth to keep using 13 personnel is good.
Could even seen Klare inactive early on. Do we still like Davis Allen? Commits too many penalties for my liking......

That pass he overthrew him on that would have gone for a TD was particularly irritating.

Obviously Ferg needs to take major steps here in year two. He wasn't ready for the role the Rams tried to push him into. But if he does take a big step forward, and if Klare's a quick study as a slot weapon, those two things in combination would have massive impact. It would mean Puka doesn't need to dip into that chain moving role over the middle as much, which in turn increases his odds of being healthy for the playoffs.

I still have big hopes for Ferg. I think he's going to be our inline TE1 when Higs hangs 'em up, and ideally that transition happens this season. But if not, I do like that the Rams keep adding to that room. And I think if Klare's used in that slot role, he may have an impact on this offense this season.
