LOL, nope. Just...nope.
No Jacob Harris? No Chris Garrett? Bobby Evans over Coleman Shelton (our backup center in case, you know - fate forbid - Brian Allen goes down?) Hoecht was all but invisible, and Copeland barely more so. Those two, and Jonah Williams - love the guy, but he got injured and waived - are probably not making the team, and I will pound the drum for Earnest Brown IV to make it over them as a fifth and potentially final defensive lineman. Lewis will be lucky to make the roster, and I would not be the least bit surprised to see him and Rapp dealt along with picks for a solid edge rusher.
You know what, fuck it, here's my prediction, roster and practice squad:
QB - Matthew Stafford, Bryce Perkins.
(Yeah, two quarterbacks. I'm sorry, Wolford, but Perkins brings a dimension that he lacks. And I'm not especially concerned about Stafford either; he's only a top-five quarterback, and one of the toughest SOaBs to play in the modern game.)
RB - Cam Akers, Kyren Williams, Xavier Jones, Raymond Calais.
(My first wildcard. I'm assuming that Darrell Henderson, injury-prone as he is, gets traded. It's his last year on his rookie contract, and there's several teams that need running backs. I'm going with Jones over Funk, given that the latter is prime practice squad material and, in all honestly, I like Jones better than Funk. Calais is for return purposes, in case Powell goes down.)
WR - Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson, Odell Beckham Jr., Van Jefferson, Chatarius Atwell, Ben Skowronek, Brandon Powell.
(Cooper Kupp is obvious. Allen "Old Fashioned" Robinson and Van Jefferson? Also obvious. I still predict that OBJ joins the team soonish, leaving Powell and Skowronek on special teams. I may be one of the few Skowronek fans here; he far outplayed his seventh round status, and even Cooper Kupp struggled in his rookie year. We may want to see what both he, Atwell, and Jacob Harris have. Speaking of which...)
TE - Tyler Higbee, Kendall Blanton, Jacob Harris.
(Brycen Hopkins will go to the Jaguars in a trade involving Taylor Rapp, Terrell Lewis, a second round pick in 2023, and a first round pick and third round pick in 2024. Yes, call me insane, whatever you want. Higbee is definitely a top fifteen tight end in this league, if not higher; I just wish he wasn't injured so often. Blanton and Harris should be able to pick up the slack, but even so, we're mostly going to be a four wide/one back team, considering our strengths.)
OL - Joseph Noteboom, David Edwards, Brian Allen, Tremayne Anchrum Jr., Rob Havenstein, Logan Bruss, Coleman Shelton, Alaric Jackson, Max Pircher.
(This offensive line still has a lot of questions. Will Noteboom be able to build on what Whitworth taught him? Will Allen and Edwards stay healthy? What about A-Jax and Anchrum? Who will take the ninth offensive line spot? I think Bruss answers a huge question at right guard, but I won't be surprised to see Anchrum get the first crack at it. As you can clearly see, I have no faith in Bobby Evans. Maybe he surprises me, but I doubt it. I do have faith in Pircher; intelligent and mobile 6'7" offensive linemen who can play as many positions as he can don't grow on trees.)
DL - Aaron Donald, Greg Gaines, A'Shawn Robinson, Bobby Brown III, Earnest Brown IV.
(AD is AD. Greg "Grizzly" Gaines should be re-signed as soon as possible. A'Shawn Robinson is a monster, and we should appreciate having him this year. I expect a huge jump for BB3, and EB4, in my opinion, has just as much - if not more - potential as Copeland.)
EDGE LB - Josh Allen, Leonard Floyd, Justin Hollins, Chris Garrett, Daniel Hardy.
(Yeah, those picks and players I traded earlier? They were for Josh Allen, a fearsome edge rusher for the Jags, who seem to be in perpetual rebuild. You re-sign him, and suddenly, our edge situation looks a lot more fearsome. Not that I don't have faith in Garrett and Hardy as edge rushers, but Allen, Floyd, and Hollins as your top three? Wow.)
ILB - Bobby Wagner, Ernest Jones, Travin Howard, Christian Rozeboom.
(Jones is going to absolutely blossom under Wagner, and I hope to holy fate we re-sign him when he does. Howard re-signing after we waived him was a very pleasant surprise; he's a top special teams player, and he could've started for a good portion of the league. Rozeboom is an underrated special teams player.
CB - Jalen Ramsey, Robert Rochell, David Long Jr., Troy Hill, Decobie Durant, Derion Kendrick.
(Since we're only keeping nine linebackers and five defensive linemen, the majority of the players will - and should - be on the secondary. Jalen Ramsey is Jalen Ramsey. Rochell is going to absolutely blow up in a good way. I think Durant takes the nickel corner spot sooner rather than later, but there's no harm in starting Long, who was actually an underrated force in the playoffs. Hill coming back gives us another option, and Kendrick - if his head's on straight - could be a very pleasant surprise.)
SAF - Jordan Fuller, Nick Scott, Terrell Burgess, Quentin Lake, Russ Yeast
(Fuller and Scott absolutely deserve to start. Burgess seems to be making a push for the final roster, and if Rapp isn't traded, I think he fights against him for the last spot because I trust Lake and Yeast over both of them. Both of the recent draft picks look like they'll be solid players.)
ST - Matt Gay, Brandon Dicker, Matthew Orzech.
(I'm not a betting woman, but if I were, I'd pick Dicker to be our punter. No offense meant to Riley Dixon, but I'd rather go with the younger player with potential. Both Gay and Orzech retain their starting roles - note to McSnead, fucking sign Gay already.)
Practice Squad - Jake Funk, A.J. Rose, Lance McCutcheon, Warren Jackson, Roger Carter, Jamal Pettigrew, A.J. Arcuri, Jack Snyder, Elijah Garcia, Brayden Thomas, Keir Thomas, Benton Whitley, Jake Hummel, Daniel Isom, Caesar Dancy-Williams, Duron Lowe.
(I'm assuming we keep sixteen, as stated in the rules. Each of these players could be good for other teams, so I don't know how well we'll be able to retain them. Funk and Rose are interesting backs. McCutcheon is a solid looking receiver, while W-Jax could be a receiver/tight end hybrid. Pettigrew is a classic blocking tight end who could deliver more, while Carter looks like an H-back. I don't think Arcuri makes the roster; I don't see too much in him. Snyder, on the other hand, could be a lot like Coleman Shelton was: a guard and potential center. Garcia, I'm putting down partially because my aunt is from Rice, and partially because he looks like a solid interior lineman, which we will need. The Thomases look like players, as does Whitley, and Hummel could be a Howard replacement, if necessary, and will compete with Rozeboom. Isom has gotten into trouble in the past, but he's insanely talented as both a corner and a safety. Dancy-Williams looks like the best of our UDFA CBs, and Lowe had a solid career at Liberty.)
So, yeah, feel free to flame or do whatever.
