We can play D, we can run the ball and its entirely possible we can pass it again too.

We should make the playoffs.

Yes we can, but the big question is..... Will We?
So far our HC has shown he lacks the patience required to affectively run the ball.
I do not understand why we continue to ignore, at least IMHO, a top tier ability
to run the football.

When A'Shawn "ARob" Robinson is inserted into the starting lineup at NT, commanding 2-3 blockers to control him, that will make it really, really difficult to contain The Kraken! Give ARob a couple games to get up to regular season speed and let us see what will result. What is Aaron's sack total for the 2nd half of the season going to look like? What is the rushing yardage per game against our D gonna look like? Will teams be able to pass effectively against us with Aaron & his pass rushing teammates raining hell from all quarters all game long? Will Aaron break his four sacks a game personal mark? Can he seriously challenge the late great former Chiefs' OLB Derrick Thomas' seven sacks in a single game NFL record?

The NFL single game mark for defensive dominance is held by the LA Rams, who held the Seattle Seahawks to -7 yards! on 4 November 1979. Seattle QB Jim Zorn completed two passes! in 17 attempts for 25 yards! - both completions going to Hall of Famer Steve Largent. The 'Hawks rushed the rock 12 times for 23 yards!, giving them a grand total of 48 gross offensive yards! Nevertheless, the Horns sacked the hapless Zorn six times for 55 yards, leaving the beleaguered 'Hawks with a net offensive total of -7 yards all told!!!

Can the 2020 Horns defenders challenge that all time NFL mark this season? Or, if we give DC Brandon Staley another year or two to acquire the starters & backups he desires, can the Horns defensive stoppers challenge that supreme 1979 defensive mark in another season or two or three?

I have noticed that the Rams D definitely utilizes second half adjustments, and I love seeing that for a change. It seems like we haven't had that in a while.

Imagine when we get Fuller, Howard (who was slated to be a starter alongside Kiser before his injury) and Robinson back.

I’m praying to holy fate that Staley isn’t poached because he’s been a revelation for us.

McVay needs guys to sign a 3 year non-compete clause...

PFF: Rams have 4th-highest graded defense in NFL
Cameron DaSilva
November 9, 2020 2:30 pm

There was a lot of hype surrounding the Rams defense heading into this season, largely thanks to Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey. With two of the NFL’s biggest defense stars on the same squad, it was hard not to like L.A.‘a potential on that side of the ball.

Those two have played up to expectations, but the Rams have also gotten great contributions from other lesser-known players to put this defense among the league’s best. Darious Williams, Jordan Fuller, Leonard Floyd and John Johnson have all played well this year, to name a few.

At the midway point in the season, Pro Football Focus has the Rams defense as the fourth-highest graded in the NFL. Only the Steelers, Bucs and Broncos are ahead of them.

The Rams will be tested much more often in the second half of the year, having to face the Seahawks and Cardinals twice each, as well as the Buccaneers.

What makes this defense so good, though, is that it buckles down in crunch time. The Rams have allowed just 33 second-half points this year and not all of those should be pinned on the defense, either.

This group can play with anyone, and that should show in Weeks 10 and 11.

Wow, I am totally and completely surprised by the Broncos there. Haven't paid attention to them at all this season and didn't realize that defense has been playing that good with some of the injuries they've had.

Anyway, looking forward to watching this defense the second half. As many of us suspected this defense was going to start off slow with no preseason and a whole new style coming in to replace Wade's. Have been pleasantly surprised by Staley so far and am scared to death he'll get a job in the offseason now. :(

Howard is done for this season correct? Just making sure I didn't miss that he could come back before 2021. Agreed though that Fuller and Robinson back will only make them better. Can't wait.

Howard is done for this season correct? J
Correct, ILB'er Travin Howard is gone for the entire 2020 season with a knee injury & Reserve Safety Terrell Burgess was our 4th safety
will NOT return.

Rams rookie Jordan Fuller has been out since Week 5’s win over Washington with a shoulder injury, but on Monday the team announced that they designated him to return from injured reserve

Reserve OLB'er Og Okoronkwo who is presently on the injured reserve does have the high probability of return in 2020.

So I’m guessing the early season fire Staley guys have moved on from that?

1. Cowboys owned this D with a scrub QB and would have won walking away without 3 questionable calls in the 4th quarter. I'm not impressed
2. Did ANYONE watch the Aints dismantle them???
3. Umm, WTF? They've had 2 games where the D has given up less than 20??

4. Rams, right now (not saying it will last), are the clear #1 defense in the NFL. It's not even close.

Would be nice to see this thread not derail into another offensive thread. Just sayin. :beer2:

This unit has by far exceeded expectations. I keep waiting for them to normalize but they seem to be getting better.

I expect they will have a poor game or two but they are going to get Fuller back and Robinson may also give them a boost. As things stand right now we are a contender because of them. Impressive as hell to me and I think Staley is gonna be a hot interview in the playoffs.

Please let it be Sala to get hired as a head coach. I hate that McVay only keeps good coaches for a year

Troy Hill surprisingly leads all NFL CBs in this key stat
1604953040178.png

Troy Hill hasn’t exactly gotten off to the best start this season, struggling at times in his new role of slot corner in the first half of 2020. That allowed Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams to play outside, where they’ve both thrived.

But over the course of the first eight games, Brandon Staley started to change things up by putting Ramsey inside more and matching up Hill outside with boundary receivers. That’s worked well, with Hill improving as the season has gone on.

Surprisingly, he leads all NFL cornerbacks in coverage snaps without allowing a single touchdown reception, too. That tidbit was shared by Pro Football Focus, with Hill going 285 coverage snaps without allowing a score. Marlon Humphrey, Bryce Callahan and Brian Poole are all near the top with Hill.

Most coverage snaps without allowing a TD among CBs

Brian Poole – 260

Ramsey and Williams have each allowed a touchdown in coverage, but their completion rates against are significantly lower than Hill’s (77.6%). However, the entire secondary has really gelled together nicely.

The Rams have allowed the second-fewest passing yards (1,577) and second-fewest touchdown passes (9) in the NFL, and they lead the league in net yards per pass attempt (5.2). They’ll face their toughest test of the season against the Seahawks in Week 10, with Wilson leading the league in touchdown passes (26) and passer rating (120.8).

Hill's numbers show that Staley has handled him with care. I'm happy for him and happy for us and it's a good thing we have two CB1s and a stable of good safeties that allow Staley to do that with him.

Also statements like this in articles are inaccurate. Hill's the guy they move around when they know he's going to struggle with a given matchup. In the last game he went back to the slot because they didn't want to pair him with Rapp on the right where he was playing. In fact they put Ramsey next to Rapp (mostly, with Williams at times too) and had him on an island to make Rapp's reads easier.

Vs the Seahawks it's gonna be "keep Hill away from Metcalf." Probably gonna be a lot of Hill on Swain which is a good matchup for us.

I don't know what they're gonna do with Metcalf. Guessing Williams on him with safety help on passing downs, and Ramsey on Lockett but who knows it's really going to be interesting.
