Some of that play calling just sucked and reminded me of Martz. 3rd and 2 and you don't run Gurley WTF. Also 8:30 left in the game and Gurley is not in there for the Rams possession. Oh, and let's not forget the timeout he called right before Reynolds made his first catch of the season for a 20 yard gain and a first down. Mcvay looked out of sorts and I know he is going to say during his press conference he has got to do better and he does. Goff seemed somewhat upset with him on the sideline after that 3rd and 2 play where they threw an incomplete pass.

I'm not sure how I feel. If we lost, then its different, but we won. So, I'm just gonna enjoy it.

Let me be very clear. We went to the super bowl because of McVay. We are 3-0 because of McVay. There is no debating that I’m sorry.

Do I disagree with some of his play calling absolutely. But saying we won in spite of him is just ridiculous.

Run the ball and dont get it: Predictable, conservative, playing not to lose. They should keep their foot on the gas.

Pass the ball and dont get it: Too cute, refuses to run, Mike Martz V 2.0.

Shit happens, you deal with it.

Same here. I don't like being almost a quarter of the way through the season and having no feel for who we are. It's a weird feeling.

Also, it's almost funny that our issues have flipped. Last year it was "our defense is gonna be the death of us, but at least we can outscore everyone". This year our defense is holding strong while our offense sputters on lol.

I'm not mad at Goff or McVay or anyone really.

But If you watch the interactions on the sideline.. or look at McVay's face. It's pretty glaringly obvious to me that Goff doesn't run the call McVay wants many times, or goes the wrong place with the ball.

It did seem like McVay was irritated with Goff and I suspect it was that he didn't go where he was supposed to go with the ball on some calls.

I love McVay and Goff. If you don’t like this duo, then you likely won’t be happy with any other lolll. We can always find something to complain about and I understand that too.

Oh please

McVay didn’t like the look so he calls timeout right before the snap... he’s done that many times before. But this time it’s “wrong” because he shoulda had a time machine and known the play would have been successful? Oh and BTW, the Rams ended up getting that first down anyway.

“3rd and 2 and they shoulda run?” Isn’t that the same fan-speak as “3rd and 2 and they shoulda passed?” Just depends on whether the play was successful or not, right— just complain that the coach “coulda woulda shoulda” done the opposite?

Since McVay has come to the Rams they are the #1 scoring offense in the entire NFL. Does anyone need reminding that the Rams went from dead LAST (under Fisher) to FIRST under McVay?

McVay is quite literally the savior of this freaking franchise, and fans who whine and complain about him really need to get a clue. The title of this thread — “Rams win in spite of McVay” — is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

I guess you can't control unrealistic expectations of some people. This is a very good team and it's playing at a high level. McVay plays to win and that means he needs to know when to pull the trigger and when not to. He's trying to play to his team's strength and he's pretty damn successful at it.

The 3rd and 3 play snide the 50 with 3 mins left was brutal by Goff. A first essentially iced the game. He forced a horrendous pass through coverage and was picked. Honestly the rams won and glad the pas was picked learning experience. Gurley was wide open in the flat.

No coach is perfect, but Mcvay is pretty dam close.

Goff had a few decisions that pissed off Mcvay and that is fine. It was a close game that shouldn't have been.

To Goff's defense, The Browns executed some perfect blitzes while covering up our WR's real well. Also, Goff had to deal with Free running DLineman due to Oline assignment breakdowns, Garrett constantly breathing down his back side, dropped passes by all his WR's, a non existent running game, and Mcvay's timeout call that erased a perfect thrown pass for a first down. Not to mention the loud crowd and communication challenges.

So Goff was irritated then Mcvay got irritated.

Guess what, we won and are 3-0. We should get back Blythe and Higbee and be at home next week.

Here is our next 6 opponents which should put us at 9-0

Bucs ( at LA)
Seahawks
9ers ( at LA)
falcons
bengals (at LA)
steelers

I think the team is a little off in many areas. Dropped pass, offensive line not completely in sync. Goff making some poor decisions, staring down receivers and forcing passes. Defenses have made adjustments that are affecting what the Rams have done in the past. It's a lot of things adding up to missed opportunities that have limited the Rams scoring on offense. McVay's game management of time outs and taking too long to get plays in seems to be a weekly problem. It could just be a matter of time before things click better in these areas and Rams get back on a cleaner offense with more scoring.

All I know is when the Browns were driving in the end, the camera showed Goff on the bench and I read his lips. He said “I can’t believe I threw that ball”.

He was just off. McVay didn’t coach the best game either, but there was nothing wrong with that call on the last int. If the LB bites to Gurley make that easy throw, if he drops back, choose Gurley. LB dropped into coverage and Goff threw it anyway. Oops. INT.

And he knew it.

Look McVay is smart but so are the other coaches or they wouldn't be head coaches in the NFL. McVay has put together great talent and a great offense for us but now other teams are starting to catch up and catch on to us a little and making it tougher. So Mcvay will have to adjust some more and get out a head of the game so to speak again. I believe he can and he will. However despite all that we are still 3-0 because this team has a hell of a lot of heart and they don't give up. Not every win can be a comfortable win, but as long as it's a W I'll take it and I wouldn't trade McVay for anyone that's for sure.

I will say it again - its not just McVay or Goff.
Look at Hekker and Legatron... consummate pros, also off their game.

Goff and McVay kick ass. This team does. We will figure it out. I'm having a blast watching my Rams be a good team and ya know what? When they do drop a game, I am going to be okay because I know we have a great team and will be contenders for years.

I mostly agree. The 2 things I will add is that McVay does take a while to adjust to defensive schemes. The Browns did all they could to take away the Rams outside running lanes and were mostly successful and McVay continued to try it until he found success running in the "A" gap. Then, he would go back to the outside with no success. Also, 3 years into his career, Goff is still making poor decisions, ie throwing into double coverage, throwing into zones where there is an underneath defender in line with the ball. He also looks at a primary read and sometimes doesn't look to another if the primary is covered. Goff was lucky he didn't have more INT's tonight. But, overall I am pleased with the outcome. I thought the Rams first 6 games were going to be rough and they started 3-0 with all of the inexperience on the interior O-line.

I love both as most know who read my post, but I didn't like the play calling in the first half.

I constantly harp on not taking the clock down to 1-2 seconds.

I don't like mcvay calling time outs from sideline when Goff always seems to understand exactly where the clock is.

Got away from the run which is scary he said last year he wouldn't let that happen again.

This teams secondary all 4 starters were out we should have anillated this team and we didn't which does not bode well against better teams.

Can't figure what is wrong no deep passes, the OL feels like not giving as much time to protect, no Gurley on wheel routes or pass plays, several key drops, throwing into stupidly tight coverage. We must get tge run game going period. Why is obo not activated we need to see what he's got ekuban is not doing it.

Yes we won, and overall the defense looks better, but this is Cleveland we should have easily dropped 40 on them with that secondary.

Some of this is McVay's fault and some is on Goff. To me he seems a little off not sure if it is the OL or not.
