I think Fergy will be Higs replacement. For this season if they want to involve him it will need to be in the slot, but by next year's camp he should be a prime candidate to move into that inline TE role.

Also I think he's a bit more talented in his hands and pass catching dept than Higs was when he came in. Needs to improve on contested catches most likely, but that will happen or not with Stafford at QB. Because Stafford will feed him as much as he can handle if and when he gets on the field.

My guess is by the second half of the season we'll see him worked quite a bit into the slot snaps.

The Rams are set a TE now for a couple years. That’s the beauty of The Rams depth right now.

Yeah, I would expect to see him some for sure.

If we don't, then we know there's more a plan for him to start the season than what seems to be apparent right now.

Yeah, if the Fergs rookie season goes like this:

-Doesn’t get action in preseason
-Gets minimal snaps in reg season
-Coaches rave about him in practice

I’ll be disappointed and begin to question if this regime even knows how to identify a TE that can translate and impact at this level.

Higs was Snead but pre McVay.
Everett could play but the staff lost patience with the inconsistency and other “stuff.”
Since then it’s been JAGS.

They need to hit on Fergs like Arizona hit on McBride, 2nd rd 55th
I see no reason he shouldn't get action in preseason. If he indeed is 4th on the depth chart, he should get a lot of snaps.

I do expect him to get minimal snaps in the regular season.

Well - Kendrick IMO is a PUNK ! I don’t say that EVER really about a player. He isn’t going to make the 53 and knows it.He won’t even be put on the practice squad either.
THAT’S IMO- might be harsh & shouldn’t say that about a RAM.Might be breaking rules here.
-I’ve seen
Him enough to have that feeling, but even more NOW.Ingave him the benefit of doubt way back in the beginning with all the HATERS. I’m NOW a HATER of Kendrick.

Tyler Davis means a lot to The Rams Team. He was in the rotation when The Rams were going off in The PLAYOFFS!! He means to much to The Rams to play in the prey.

Murch might not even play, but him & D. Johnson are competing for that last DL/DE spot.
Hard to say.
The coaches have liked him.
Witherspoon, Williams, Durant, Forbes (imho, assuming the reports are right) are on the roster. After that it gets a lot more wide open.
Wallace, Jolly etc.....Kendricks has a good shot of making the roster even if Lake shifts down to CB some times.

100%.
Hes a rookie and the Rams have TE depth.
There is no reason to not give him live reps and plenty of them......for the blocking at the NFL level as much as anything.

I haven't read through this entire thread, so I'm not sure if it has been mentioned but ... in-case-Not ... Ferguson has been out with a groin injury. Haven't seen anything about a time-table for return.

I’ll add Rivers if he can play special teams as well. I’ll give you Kendrick needs to play special teams, but if your using his play on punt return on injury ?? That’s not going to be an excuse.

You’ll see for yourself, that’s my take away & wouldn’t be that infinitive.

Listen to Jake Bong on his Podcast & a couple others.I can’t see Blake Corum taking any snaps.I could be way off. J. Hunter looked worn out already. It will be fun to see who plays.

J. Stewart is a player I didn’t notice.There were a few numbers that didn’t flash.

Numbers to watch today.

OLB. #6 - #41 - #44

———————————————

DB/CB
Battle for 1 or 2 spots
#21 —#24 —#27 —# 30 - #33 - #34

& of course your #1

IMO you won’t see #2 or #3 #4 #14
#25 - #26 #31 & # 37 these are The EIGHT forsure players all the above are battling for basically special teams & practice squad.

I never mentioned special teams.
Rivers has been a ST contributor for the last couple of years, not as a returner, but in coverage etc if my memory is correct.
Kendricks will have to make the team as a CB I think.

Jake’s top 10 tonight-

10. Ty Hamilton - he was in the mix with Kobie Turner out.He needs the experience.(T.Davies won’t)
9. Blake Corum - talk about a silly statement. He didn’t get reps in preseason last season which he says is a mistake, but then says he will play tonight- LOL
8.Bennet- we all want to see him play. He’s 3rd string.Seeing his development is huge.
7.Willie Lampkin - JOKE that he makes The Rams roster !! Can’t see it,but agree will be fun to watch.Isaw the Senior bowl.
6.Brennan Jackson- saw a couple plays he made Tuesday & looks good. He’s experience should open eyes in the preseason??
5.Shaun Dolac - he will be calling the Plays on Defense!! He shows leadership.A special teams guy.J. J.
4.J. Hunter - once again(Jake BS) Blake ain’t playing. He won’t get many snaps either tonight IMO.
Rivers needs to step up.Watching Special Team players might show a lot about rosters (battles)spots.
3.Josiah Stewart- he is ONE of the Players looking forward to seeing.
(Nick Hampton?)
2. Konata - He showed good hands, but he wasn’t on the same page as the QB ? Special teams though he be a key player.
(Covey & Xiaver are battling) Jake is missing that point.
#1 Pooh Chris Paul - he was raw.Fields was playing better than he was.Elias Neal will get playing time maybe ahead of Dolac & Pooh tonight with Fields starting. DON’t be surprised !! If we’re talking rotation from Tuesday. Reeder won’t play.

I’ll compare my thoughts with Jake’s most of the time.He brings good value & ideas. When he came a long as a poster,it was always fun on who was going to make the team & team needs.

I agree that Fergs absolutely needs to play in preseason (barring injury). Play a lot.

As fearsomefour said, there’s established depth there. Higs and likely Parkinson are the guys today. If Fergs suffers an injury setback…it’s not a back breaking thing for the TE room.

Hope the Rams don’t baby this kid in preseason.

with Jake’s…
Seriously is that guy paying you to drop his name and refer to his content here? Every other post (which is a TON) you make mentions him and his opinions. Either you are in love with the guy or being paid ;)

Definitely. If they hold him out I'm gonna be pissed. But of course that happens to several players every year with McVay so what else is new. :laugh3:

AJackson, Stafford and Forbes all end up on the PUP list, missing the 1st 4 games and don't count against the 53. Giving spots for borderline players.

Just some thoughts about where the team is, relative to last year.
These are, of course, just my opinions.

-Better and more depth on OL.. along with some relative continuity.
-Better and more depth at WR.
-Better and more depth at TE.
-Better and more depth at RB.
-Status quo... HOPEFULLY.. at QB.. with some improvement from Bennet thrown in.

-Better along Dline. Poona is a huge addition.. and we should see growth from the young guys. I'm excited to see this group in action. I'm a Tyler Davis fan and am really looking forward to seeing him in year 2, based on camp reports.
-Status quo.. if not a very slight step back at edge. I have high hopes for Josiah Stewart.. but Hoecht was a real factor there last year. I do expect even better from Verse.. but the 3rd edge rusher spot isn't as certain as last year.
-Better and more depth at ILB. Love the Landman signing and everything we're hearing about it.. really looking forward to year 2 of Speights.. and with Pooh and Dolac, there's promising young depth.
-Status quo at corner.. hopefully. Witherspoon and Williams are getting up there.. so Durant and Forbes need to step up.
-Status quo.. with potential to be better at safety. I just think being together as a group for the second year in a row with continuity of scheme.. these are smart players and I have high hopes.

Kicker and punter are big strengths coming into the year. Great to see.

Stating the obvious.. if Stafford is really diminished.. we're probably fucked. Meaning not a championship contender.. although I think Jimmy G could get this team to 10 wins.

If Stafford is just fine.. LET'S GO!!!!!

I will say, I'm slightly disappointed. I knew it would take a while for him to come along but definitely hoped he could carve a roll for himself in 12 personnel off the bat but sure seems like 12 looks like Higs and Colby right now.

But I'll be patient for all the reasons we've listed before.
At this point I’m all for Ferguson starting the season on the PUP list and to use that roster spot elsewhere early on at least. For me, a redshirt season would not be out of the question.
