One draft guy talking about the Rams draft said that once Stowers, Stribling, Bernard and Boston were off the board no WR left was as highly rated as Klare was from a pass catching perspective on their - the analysts - board.

Rams also said that once four WRs (the above were the only WRs who were taken in the 2nd round before us) that they pivoted to Klare.
I'm sure the dwindling pass catcher pool was emphasized by the Jags and Texans taking TEs right before us that were significantly lower on the consensus board than Klare was. You have to wonder if they would have targeted one of those smaller name TEs if Klare was gone and the reaction this board would've had if we made a "reach" like those teams did after the Simpson pick lol.

I do really love this pick btw after watching a whole lot more of Klare and especially his play at Purdue, I think his movement skills remind me a lot of guys like Dalton Kincaid and Sam Laporta. If he pans out to be that type of TE, that's an awesome chess piece to have on this roster.

I think if you agree with the talking heads, those TE's by the Jags and Texans were actually picked more for their blocking prowess or potential to be a true Y TE than pass catching.

What people are realizing is that they actually need to guys like Parkinson to make a 12 or maybe 13 personnel work. Teams want to get bigger out of that personnel grouping and have a guy who can pass/run block and offer a little something as a pass catcher so that they can punish in the run game. The league is littered with move TE's and glorified WRs, teams need a legit Y to make the threat of larger packages work or defenses will just trot out nickel.

Rams have Parkinson to play Y (and it's seeming likely Fergy's future is there) and Higs as a backup. That's what a lot of the league is chasing.

How in the F did Puka last until the 5th round? He was breaking plays and getting separation in college.

Didn’t produce at Washington (less than 200 yards in 3 games, then COVID year only got him 151 in 3 games) transfers to a smaller school and does well, but didn’t exactly fill up the stat sheet…It makes it seem like he couldn’t produce against better competition.

In fact, he had more catches and more yards in his rookie year than he had his entire career at BYU. If you count his rookie year playoff stats (181 yards) he had only 82 yards less than his entire college career.

Some players are just better pros than they were college players.

I watched this video of Daniels and was really impressed with his hands. That is definitely an elite trait. We can scheme some goal line stuff with that.

At the same time, watch these two videos. Daniels vs Nacua. It jumps out.

He wasn’t really…At least I don’t think..He was hurt his freshman year, then had the Covid season. After that he was mostly just banged up, which he still is.

Honestly, if not for the Covid season, we may have missed out on Puka. If he starts producing at Washington, maybe he doesn’t transfer, then he gets exposure, leading him into a higher drafted position…

Puka doing everything he did at BYU with the Rams, and more.. Wild that he slid all the way down to where we got to draft him.
